The Most Clueless Man in Chicago By Mark Finkelstein (Bio | Archive) October 7, 2008 - 10:12 ET

Update | Hail Halperin: See incredible video at foot. Pressed by Mark Halperin, Robert Gibbs admits Obama continued to associate with Ayers after learning his past.

H/t Melody N. An Obama spokesman adamantly insists that in 1995 Barack Obama was the most clueless man in Chicago. Andrea Mitchell thinks talk of Barack Obama's ties to an unrepentant terrorist is a "distraction." Rudy Giuliani doesn't. Mitchell is happy to take the New York Times's word for the fact that Obama and William Ayers weren't close. Rudy, not so much.

After the former NYC mayor made the case on today's Morning Joe as to why Ayers matters, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs came on, called Giuliani a liar, and flatly denied that—when beginning his political career in his living room—Obama knew Ayers was a terrorist.

A distraction?!?!?

Let’s give this Ayers thing another little bit of perspective.

The only reason that Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn did not kill people in the numbers of say, the Oklahoma City bombing, is because they lacked the technical expertise. They clearly had the will and they apparently still do.

So let’s replay the OKC scenario a bit. Let’s assume that Tim McVeigh managed to get off on a technicality the way the Ayers did. Then let’s assume that McVeigh went on to get an education and wound up as a college professor.

Next let’s assume that some politician who was, say, “eight years old” when the OKC bombing occurred, managed to find a mentor in McVeigh and develop an ongoing, mutually beneficial relationship.

Do we really think that ANYONE would take that politician seriously as a candidate for mayor, much less the presidency? [except our enemies (foreign and domestic) and those who are completely duped and blinded by their idealism]

Of course not. And yet, that is almost exactly the same as the current scenario with Obama and Ayers.

These are indeed perilous times.

They SHOULD HAVE sent the ‘FEDs’ in, so they can ‘federalize’ this voter fraud into a national ACORN VOTER FRAUD violation of everyone’s VOTING RIGHTS and get a court ordered SHUT DOWN of all ACORN VOTING ACTIVITIES!

Still seems like softball. I wouldn’t concede the point that Obama was “unaware” of Ayers past in 1995. Ayers and his past were well known in 1995 and it’s naive to think Obama was not aware. Also no one is pointing out that Obama has sued an independent group that produced a factual TV commercial laying out facts of the Obama/Ayers link, which shows a serious disregard to freedom of speech by the Obama campaign.

based on the lie that he didn’t know what Pastor Wright’s sermons were about (which he listened to on tape even when he was away), I seriously doubt that he didn’t know about Ayer’s “community terrorizer” past.

It’s good that Rudy is on the case. This seems like the sort of issue that Rudy specializes in. Palin and Guiliani seem to be the only public figures that aren’t too worried about looking tough.

This is a winning point. The American people know very little about Obama. The American people are also very jaded when it comes to politicians. They expect the worst and don’t really hope for much. People know McCain. I’m not so sure McCain needs to land a ‘knockout’ in these debates or elsewhere. He just needs to be who he has always been. The guy who spent 5 years in Hanoi and does what he thinks is right. McCain frankly needs to look acceptable. Obama has way too many questions about him. The key for the McCain campaign is to keep the media talking about the latest questions about Obama’s past to emerge. That’s Gov. Palin’s job. McCain’s job is the big picture positive stuff as well as a few placed jabs about Obama’s inexperience and lack of a record.

Don’t doubt the people.

*Obama Did Not Know*

This sounds like millions of Germans during WWII

I didn’t know millions of Jews were rounded up, taken to concentration camps and killed.

Try again Obama, your crap is getting old.
