NEW HOLLAND, Ohio -- Joshua Rea, 30, heard the news while having a bite at CC's White Cottage restaurant. "This is crazy, man," he said incredulously, reaching for a phone to call his dad.
"Obama's ancestors lived right down the road," he told his father, a local farmer. "Our ancestors were probably kicking it with his ancestors."
Here in rural Pickaway County, 30 minutes south of Columbus, word is spreading that a pair of U.S. Sen. Barack Obama's ancestors are buried just a few miles away and that the Democratic nominee has loads of distant relatives living in southern Ohio. All of them are white.

The more I think about it, the more absurd and offensive it is to me personally. Pickaway County is just down the road from where I grew up (next county over, in fact). I spent lots of time in this area as a kid. Hung out with people there.

Well, who by now doesn’t know that he is half white? They’re always refering to his “Kansas mother.” Where do they figure white Kansans orginally came from? Probably places like Ireland.
As far as his having “kin” in southern Ohio — a lot of us have kin in a lot of places, if you dig back far enough. It doesn’t mean we have any real connection to those people or those places — which is what this article is trying to maintain.

That's obvious when you step inside Diane Kearney Pennock's home in Frankfort and see the 4-foot-tall sculpture of a hand created by her artist daughter, who opposes laws curbing her right to smoke her beloved Camels. How about Obama openly campaigning for his communist cousin Odinga who signed a pact with Muslims to enact Sharia Law if elected and started riots when he lost. Obama campaigned for an openly Anti-American candidate in a foreign country in 2006 at taxpayer expense.
Now that would truly sicken and repulse me,no s#*t, just plain sick to my stomach.
The real question is, do the Kearneys want to be associated with him?
Well I don’t know if either side of this family would want to associate with the other.
I have worked for/with a Kearney from southern Ohio.
This Kearney was a very intelligent man with the personality of tombstone.
Not much to be said about distant cousins that far removed. But if the Kearneys of Southern Ohio tend to the Democrat end of the spectrum perhaps genes do tell.
I wish I could make it out for the Pumpkin Show...I had originally planned to do so, but delays on a project meant that I had to delay my trip. :-(
In fact, any given weekend you happen to be in Ohio through the spring-summer-fall, there's usually a small-town festival or fair somewhere nearby...celebrating food, music or both ;)
