Alaska 1st family used H&R Block, pulled in $294G (combined in 2006/2007)
The New York Daily News ^ | October 3, 2008 | James Gordon Meek

Posted on 10/04/2008 1:56:38 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

WASHINGTON - Sarah Palin can make one more claim as a typical Joe Sixpack American: she gets her taxes done by H&R Block, it was revealed Friday.

Alaska's GOP governor and her husband Todd paid $37,000 on their combined $294,000 in income in 2006 and 2007, according to the tax returns released by the John McCain presidential campaign.

Among the Alaska-centric deductions the Palins claimed were expenses for Todd's racing snow machines, such as parts and fuel.

The tax returns also show that they've given about $8,000 to charity since 2006.

By contrast, Democratic vice presidential rival Sen. Joseph Biden donated less than $4,000 to charity over the past decade, though the Obama campaign said the Bidens donated their time to good causes, too.

Among the Palins' offerings was a baby crib donated to the Salvation Army two years ago. They may have not known they would still have a use for it.

Last April, Palin gave birth to fifth child Trig, and the Palins' oldest daughter, Bristol, 17, is now pregnant.

The family's most valuable asset is their Wasilla house, worth between $500,000 and $1 million.

Todd Palin, who is an oil field worker part of the year, also earned cash from his commercial fishing business and his snow machine racing. He is a four-time Iron Dog world champion.

He has made $27,000 in profits from fishing the Nushugak River, but has pocketed only $7,500 as a racer since 2006 after expenses.

The family of seven also collects more than $10,000 a year from oil dividends paid by the state to each of them as Alaskan residents.

These numbers do nothing but help Sarah Palin. Not only did she give more than Biden, she gave more than Obama did likewise until Barak hit it big with his books. Democrats are such freaking hypocrites. I know you know this but it can’t be said often enough. They want to give away your money and hold onto theirs like their lives depended on it. Cheap corrupt bastards.

This will make Commie heads explode. The fact that she got her taxes done at H&R Block is awesome; Sarah is awesome.

Then on top of it all she donates more to charity than Obama or Biden, who are both very wealthy in comparison. They need not worry about her inexperience as it is Obama’s inexperience, coupled with his arrogance that will damage America.

When Obama is leading in these polls or the fact that he could even come close to winning brings me to wonder if a good part of America isn’t already gone.

Rich Democrats don’t mind being CEO’s of their own charities though, and paying their relatives and friends fat salaries from the money they collect from ordinary people for their charities. The “oodles” of time they donate to their own charity is also a good tax write off, at the rates they think they are worth.

Look at that. They lump two years together so they can quote an income figure near $300,000.

When you refer to your taxes, do you ever address them two years at a time?

These rags are so shameless.

Why do they show a combined income for 2 years? It seems deceptive to me for the media to combine their 2006 and 2007 income. I know I read another article in the last 48 hours that showed half the amount of 295,000 dollars.

One thing that must also be remembered is that Alaska is a very expensive place to live.

A half million dollar house would be roughly a $3000 dollar monthly payment for 30 years....$36,000 a year. The fishing business doesn’t seem to net much income, but it is like farming, full of huge expenses that can be written off. I’m betting that the $30,000 of profit is on $100,000 or more of gross revenues, to include a land vehicle for carrying and storing supplies and other things.

I told my husband the same. LOL, the Palin’s made more money then us. Way more, but...... given the fact that she is a governor and he works in oil and owns his own business, sounds about right. I guess the MSM were thinking we would be outraged that the Palin’s aren't making 42,0000 a year. LOL

Of course there was no mention of Biden's tax return nor his $3 million mansion.......

Your post should become a MANTRA for those of us who support the McCain-Pain ticket...There is revelation and genuine proof of generosity of spirit in these facts.

More PROOF that elite democrats feel a flush of that ol 'giving' spirit when they distribute YOUR money that they control via taxation whereas republicans actually NOT ONLY PAY TAXES but GIVE TO CHARITY AS WELL!

You wrote:

By putting this little tidbit in the article it's obvious they can look at "Honest Joe" Biden tax records as well.

I'd be waiting to see the fair and balanced comparison article telling us about how "over" the top Biden income is

Alaska's GOP governor and her husband Todd paid $37,000 on their combined $294,000 in income in 2006 and 2007,

This sentence is totally nonsensical. What are they trying to tell the reader?

Are they trying to tell the reader the $294,000 is their combined income FOR 2006 & 2007?

Are they trying to telling the reader their joint income was $294,000 per year in 2006 and 2007? And they paid a total of $37,000 for both years or should that total tax amount actually be $74,000?

Certainly an impressive sentence structure designed to allow the reader their own interpretations. Combined as in joint income or combined as in 2006+2007? Without the use of the standard units of income measurement surrounding the numbers the information is totally useless and inaccurate. The overuse of the preposition "in" compounds the inaccuracy of interpretation.

Something sounds wrong about the number. I would bet she tithes and that her giving is greater than that.

$295,000 over two years for a two income family with 5 kids is not very much. And if their home is worth $500,000 you can bet they didn't pay that much for it. IIRC Todd Palin built most of the house.

What amazes me is that the Palins can work hard their whole lives making good money and can only afford to buy a house worth $500,000. But Joe Biden, who works as a public servant making about the same or less can afford to buy a 7000 square foot house worth probably about 5 Million dollars on a lake with 6 acres for $300,000 and nobody seems to be curious as to how he managed to do that.

I know how he did it. He is a crook. He is probably a tax evader (which makes him unpatriotic by his own definition).

I find it curious that most Senators (who make about the same salary as me) can afford to live in palatial estates and I can only afford to live in a 1600 square foot house. And when a guy who has never done anything in his life except live off the public dole (like Biden) can afford to live in a house that would make mine look like a servant's quarters, my crook radar goes up.

Biden and Obama are both crooks. At least McCain had to good sense to marrry into money.

Move your practice to south Ohio.

I’ll bet you get 3500 square feet for the same money out here in the wilderness. :>)

I agree about cash, though.

How is it that thousandaire’s the Clintons went to Washington and are now worth approx 100 million?

How is it that thousandaire Obama went to Washington and last year earned 4+ million?

How is it that Biden makes 200 grand but lives in a multi-million dollar house?

How is it that McCain married a rich woman and didn’t need to go the corruption route?

I can only say this - there has to be at least 1,000 companies out there that would like her to come in and run their operations for short money like that.

Proven executive with multi-billion dollar budget experience. Significant stewardship of globe’s third largest landmass. Able to manage thousands of employees, many un-fireable malcontents. Developed and financed largest capital project in history of human kind.

That Chunnel thing ? Coulda done that before breakfast. OTH, a senator might manage what - 50 people ? For twice the rake ? If she decides the MSM is just too much indignity for the family to constantly suffer, the hottest governor is going to score somewhere.

She’s a national treasure. Let’s all hope they don’t grind her down. She can do that kind of stuff after she’s had a chance to be Vice-President and then President.

I don’t know anyone who races snowmachines where I live but the same tax code is for stockcar racers which often is a business. But it is also used for horse racing and yacht racing I don’t see these types of claims being Alaska-centric.
