After months of showing the U.S. Senate race as a statistical dead heat, the latest SurveyUSA poll finds Norm Coleman with a solid 10-point lead. The incumbent draws support from 43 percent of respondents, with Democrat Al Franken trailing at 33 percent.
Perhaps most notable, however, is the strong showing of Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley. Despite his late entry into the race and raising almost no money, Barkley garners support from 19 percent of those polled. Assessments of the IP candidates strength have varied widely in recent weeks. A pair of polls last month showed him in double digits, but a recent Rasmussen Reports survey gauged his support at just three percent.
SurveyUSAs latest look at the presidential race in Minnesota, meanwhile, determines that its a dead heat, with John McCain topping Barack Obama by a statistically insignificant 47-46 margin. The poll contradicts a CNN/Time poll released earlier this week that showed Obama with an 11-point lead.

I don’t know what’s in the water in Minnesota, but I wish the rest of the nation was drinking it!
Maybe the implosion of the Franken campaign will suppress Demoncratic turnout, giving Sarah and John a shot.
From whom is that third party candidate in the Senate race siphoning off more votes - Coleman or Franken?
Nothing to get excited about, liberal rino Norm Coleman is beating a moonbat liberal buffoon.
We have similar choices in Maine-Rinos versus Moonbat liberal buffoons.
There is really no choice in this case choose the Rino.
Our moonbats talk about impeachment for President Bush, and Vice President Cheney and call General Petraus, Betray Us and detest the military.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Looks like more from Franken.
Norm Coleman's not as conservative as I'd like, but to compare to an actual liberal RINO like Arlen Specter is just plain delusional. I'd much rather have Norm Coleman as my Senator nominee in Illinois than Steve Sauerberg and his gay friendly, gun-grabbing, let's-pretend-I'm-pro-life-even-though-I-admitted-I-support-abortion candidacy.
Of course over on the South Carolina U.S. Senate race, they're claiming a Democrat canidadate who buys into blame America first/surrender in Iraq/repeal anti-terrorist measures, and takes swipes at "the Bush regime" for "destroying civil liberties and the bill of Rights" via the PATRIOT Act... supposedly the candidate exposing all that leftist garbage is "the true conservative" in the race.
Has this forum been invaded by Ron Paulities lately? I have to wonder. I'm not a "neocon" or a "palecon", just a plain old CONSERVATIVE conservative.
Norm Coleman has a 100% solid pro-life record, an A rating from the NRA, supports traditional marriage, whole heartily supports the President's tax cuts, favors privatizing social security, voting against amnesty and for English as the national language, strongly opposes surrender in Iraq, and was THE leader in exposing the UN food scandal. Are those "liberal RINO" positions, according to you?

I live in Minnesota. Barkley is drawing voters from both Coleman and Franken, but more from Franken. The Independence Party (on whose ticklet Barkley is running) draws largely from conservative or middle of the road Democrats who can’t stomach the leftists in the DFL, but still can bring themselves to vote Republican.
By the way, Dean Barkley is a former Senator. After Paul Wellstone died, Gov. Jessie Ventura appointed him Senator for the six weeks or so between the 2002 election and the start of Coleman’s current term.
Don't get too excited. This (Minnesota) is an EXTREMELY liberal state and will remain so until proven otherwise, not in some ridiculous poll, but in the only poll that counts.
It may be that Franken is simply too crude and crass. We will see. Also, Barkley is a liberal of the Jesse Ventura persuasion. Most of his votes will come from Franken. It is nice to see liberals eating one another alive for a change, but we haven't made it to election day yet.
Most of what you listed, pro life, pro guns, taxes, etc are the most basic qualifications, rather like he has to be breathing.
Virtually the first thing Norm did after Republicans welcomed him into the Party and elected him, was to speak out against the Bush tax cuts. It was a betrayal after Bush had assisted his campaign and I had contributed financially. Perhaps after receiving 10,000 or so angry phone calls he voted for the tax cuts and he may support them today, but his first instinct was to speak out and oppose the tax cuts.
The same with amnesty, Norm may have finally voted correctly, but during a cloture vote that could have killed it, he voted to keep it alive, before finally and correctly voting to kill it.
He's steadfastly on board with the Democrats in starving the US of cheap and abundant energy. Only in the last month or so, did he finally agree to allow some drilling. So Norm beat Nancy Pelosi’s partial surrender on drilling by a couple weeks, big deal, I demand better than that.
This latest $700 Billion bailout, Norm was right on board with Reid and Pelosi socializing private corporate losses with public money. That's $10,754 he took from my family of four and sent to Wall Street.
Yes Norm is better than the liberal moonbat Buffoon Al Franken, but he's nothing to get excited about.
As you can tell, at the moment I'm a very dispirited conservative.
Stuart Smalley's waste product? A remotely respectable rat would probably be tied with or leading Coleman.
