Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made considerably less money than rival Sen. Joe Biden, but the Palin family gave more to charity in the last two years than Biden has in the last eight combined, according to Palin's tax records released Friday afternoon.
Palin, the running mate of presidential candidate Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and her husband Todd reported meager earnings from 2006 and 2007, at least by presidential-politics standards.
In 2006, the Palins paid $11,944 in taxes on $127,869 in income. In 2007, they paid $24,738 on $166,080.
But in 2006, they donated $4,880 to charity, and in 2007, they donated $3,325.
By contrast, Biden (D-Del.), Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's running mate, has donated a total of $3,690 since 1998 despite his higher Senate salary, according to an analysis posted by National Review.
he timing of the release of the Palins tax records has become something of a tradition. Campaigns wait until Friday afternoon, when the news cycle slows to a grind and reporters are focused elsewhere in this case, Congress's passage and the president's signing of the financial rescue package.
They aren’t as magnanimous as some, but they have a large family to support and a special needs child. Biden doesn’t have any excuses.
They certainly are not rich, by any standard of measurement. The cost of living in Alaska is a lot higher than most states.
Nothing unanticipated here: Leftists believe their mere presence and (irrational) concern is a tremendous gift to charity. Their heart is indeed where their treasure is placed.
I don’t have a promblem with either Palin or Biden’s charity giving. They probably give a lot in other ways.
I’d rather have someone who doesn’t give a dime to charity and gives the taxpayers back their money and doesn’t waste it. That leads to everyone giving more to charity.
Biden does, anyway. He gives a lot of taxpayers' money to those he hopes will remain permanently dependent on Democrat handouts.
Biden's gaffes are charity to the right.
In a way yes and in way no. One should lead by example. Biden doesn't, Gore didn't, Clinton didn't.
Yes, Joe Biden leaves all his money in very generous tips to the waitresses at Katie’s Restaurant in Wilmington, Delaware, where he claimed in the debate he’s a frequent guest (to talk with the average Joes about their woes, of courese). The only kicker in the story is that Katie’s Restaurant shut down in 1990.
OMG, Shut Up!!!!!
Democrats use tax money from others as their donation to charity.
HAHA. I wonder if NBC will air this tonight.
To his credit, Pres. Bush gives a very healthy chunk to charity every year. Well over 10%.
Charitable giving tends to show the extent to which one values material comfort over spreading the kingdom of God.
I know my parents never gave 6% to charity. They did have 7 kids though.
You can't argue with people who think with their emotions.
Biden gives NOTHING else....he’s a DEMOCRAT! You can NOT be serious.....or you don’t give much to charity....Biden’s is PALTRY!
Forget your parents.....do you give generously to charity....most conservatives do.
Good to remember that not everyone that gives, takes it off on their taxes. Or that not everything one gives can easily be defined for the taxman.
Not at the moment...I give a lot to banks in the form of paying off student loans.
Can’t speak for the Palin’s but there are many Christians that do not document their tithing.
Matthew 6
1Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
wow.....give a quarter at Church if that’s all you have.
I do...Catholic Church too (they want $ every week lol) but I don’t list that on my tax returns.
I believe you are looking at an old listing for Katie’s Restuarant at 6th and Scott (not unusual for Internet postings of restaurants and hotels which are often taken from old Yellow Page entries). It was turned into a CJ Bart’s in 1990, then closed as I understand it.
From the blogosphere ( Flopping Aces):
Sarah Palin Gives More To Charity Then Biden
**********************ECERPT************************
Recall Bidens quote from not too long ago:
Catholic social doctrine as I was taught it is, you take care of people who need the help the most.
Too bad he only talks about helping those in need rather then doing it .
As Sarah does:
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made considerably less money than rival Sen. Joe Biden, but the Palin family gave more to charity in the last two years than Biden has in the last eight combined, according to Palins tax records released Friday afternoon.

Of course what Biden meant was that it was better to spend YOUR money to redistribute to those in need rather then his own.
Once again proving the study done by Arthur C. Brooks as written about in his book Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism:
Which Restaurant Was That Joe?
Posted by: Curt @ 6:39 pm in Joe Biden
The man is just a liar:
BIDEN: Can I respond? Look, all you have to do is go down Union Street with me in Wilmington or go to Katies Restaurant or walk into Home Depot with me where I spend a lot of time and you ask anybody in there whether or not the economic and foreign policy of this administration has made them better off in the last eight years. And then ask them whether theres a single major initiative that John McCain differs with the president on. On taxes, on Iraq, on Afghanistan, on the whole question of how to help education, on the dealing with health care.
Look, the people in my neighborhood, they get it. They get it.
Only problem is that those people in his neighborhood existed in the 1980s .not today:
But I checked The News Journal archives this morning and, well, dont plan on trying to find it on Union Street anytime soon. And I wonder if the Katies today, which is now actually Wings to Go at Katies, is the same Katies that Joe remembers ..
Katies was at the corner of Sixth and Scott streets in Wilmingtons Little Italy neighborhood. (Not Union Street.) It had been a local and much-loved institution, well known for its rich, thick Italian gravy (tomato sauce) and spaghetti. It was opened in 1936 by Silvio Spiezio, who later sold it in 1945. The Fugilino family owned and ran the restaurant for years until it was sold in the 1981 after Frances Mae Fugilinos death.
Katies then changed hands again in 1985, but new owners kept the venerable name.
But it eventually changed hands again - at least 10 years ago, maybe even more like 15 years ago.
Ryan Cormier with more:
Towards the end of last nights Joe Biden/Sarah Palin debate, Joe Biden said this: All you have to do is to go down Union Street with me in Wilmington and go to Katies restaurant
It caught me off guard, as well as our food guru Patty Talorico.
She investigated a bit and realized Biden was referring to the long-closed Katies Italian restaurant, which is actually two blocks away from Union Street.
The establishment is now a Wings to Go.
Taloricos blog post has been picked up by the John McCain campaign, along with The National Review, New York magazine and others.
For a guy running as an in-touch-with-the-real-people candidate, its hard to believe he not only referenced a restaurant that has been closed for nearly 20 years, but also got the location wrong!
I just called the owner of Wings to Go, Nate Johnson, who verified that Katies closed in the late 80s.
He was a little off, Johnson said of Biden.
Just a bit.
If he wanted to have us believe he sits down with the folks in his neighborhood to shoot the shite and they complain about the economy under Bush then at least make up a restaurant that is still standing
Geez
They must have been complaining about the economy under George HW Bush (who took office twenty years ago) since the restaurant closed in 1990. Howl! But then again, Mr. Biden has the perfect memory and a better command of the facts (or at least that’s what the “journalists” told us after the debate the other night). Biden’s brilliant mind didn’t help him in law school where he got caught cheating and had to take the same course over ageain.
You are exactly right, I don’t put my charitable donations on my taxes. Besides that, how does one put a price on giving time, which to me is just as much an act of giving as money.
I actually believe that generous Joe is telling the truth when he says that he gave cash at his church. I can easily imagine him slipping in a dollar when the collection plate goes past in order to ease his conscience and feel that God will now smile on him as he supports the mass killing of unborn babies. Also, Joe would NOT want to write a check because that would leave a paper trail of how LITTLE he gave.
