UPDATED: Thursday's debate between Alaska governor Sarah Palin and Delaware senator Joe Biden proved prognosticators correct and scored extremely high viewership.
Last night's debate totaled a 45.0 overnight meter-market household rating, according to Nielsen
That's 42% higher than Friday's presidential debate between John McCain and Barack Obama, which scored a collective 31.6 rating among the broadcast and cable networks.
It's also a stunning 60% higher than the 2004 debate between Dick Cheney and John Edwards. In fact, the figure surpasses any presidential debate since 1992's second bout between Bill Clinton, Ross Perot and George Bush (which received a 46.3 rating).
The more people who see Sarah being Sarah, the better.
Once again the drive bys make Sarah Palin must see TV.
Joe was Biden his time while Palin in comparison to Sarah.
I kept waiting for Sarah to look at Joe Biden and say, “Gee, Joe, I didn’t know Bush and Cheney were on the ticket.” And then give one of those winks of hers to the crowd.
Agreed. And How many more people, like me, watched it on the internet, after the fact and didn’t get counted.
LOL! That’s what I thought, too. Biden - on the advice of his handlers, I’m sure - was trying to summon up Bush/Cheney Derangement Syndrome, without even realizing that the average voter either never had it to begin with, or has already forgotten about it.
I hear that Joe Biden was the guest punching bag.
I loved that debate. And looking back on it you can easily see how completely in the tank the media is for the Democrat Party. Most Drive-Bys at the time stubbornly insisted Edwards won it. Now, with hindsight, that contention is even more ridiculous than it was at the time.
As Clint Eastwood said in The Outlaw Josie Wales, "That'd be me."
I pray this turns into Gold for us. Remember alot of folk saw the after debate report as well given by the EVIL mediaPUKES. Keep praying for the blinders to fall off the American people! God be praised!
The Democrats I think would have a hard time explaining the ratings without reference to Palin. Did more Republicans than Dems watch it? I think we would be more motivated. We had somebody to cheer. Gosh knows that Joe Biden couldn’t draw that crowd even if he was biting the heads off of live chickens.
The debate infuriated my Democrat co-workers. We usually leave it out of the office but there was some warm up discussion before the morning meeting. One guy (that I like) was hissing, “What was all that winking about?” My comment was that, “She was’t winking at you, she was winking at me and I KNOW what it was about.”
I’ll vote for Sarah any time over some country club RINO. Too bad we don’t have that choice.
if the numbers hold up, it will be the Most Watched Debate in History.....and the numbers are NINE TIMES those SNL numbers the past few weeks....
I hear Queen Latifah will be playing Moderator Gwen Ifil this weekend...
I dunno....but Sarah’s stock has definitely risen. I can see her taking the Alaskan Senate seat pretty easily in a few years. (If things go as they are currently going for McCain...) On the other hand, she might just want to stick around Alaska til the kids are all adults...
I COULDN’T HAVE SAID IT BETTER !!
How would you have been “counted” if you had watched it live?
(you have to have one of those nifty little neilson boxes)
Bingo!
Or like me who watched live on the net.
I had a similar experience to yours. The libs were spitting mad. Sputtering and disdainful of Palin--with absolutely no comment about any of the substance of the debate. All style comments. And that's precisely why they're apoplectic. Their messiah's rise was all on style and they know the power of it.
To put this debate ratings in perspective - higher than all these.
“Previous VP Debate Ratings:
2004: Cheney-Edwards: 28.1 HH / 43.6 million viewers
2000: Cheney-Lieberman: 21 HH / 29 million viewers
1996: Gore-Kemp: 19.7 HH / 26.6 million viewers
1992: Quayle-Gore-Stockdale: 35.9 HH / 51.2 million viewers
1988: Quayle-Bentsen: 33.6 HH / 46.9 million viewers
1984: Bush-Ferraro: 43.6 HH / 56.7 million viewers”
That is the path to victory.
Election 2008 is all about positioning Sarah to be President.
Can there be any doubt that we are witnessing the emergence of a powerful new political force regardless of whether McCain wins or loses?
Sarah handed Joe his head last night.
I listened via Radio, I doubt I’ll be counted either.
People were not tunning in to see and hear the dopey Senator from Delaware, you can bet on that, it was Sarah Palin that drew the huge audience.
And when the pressure was on, she performed above all expectations.
I am proud she is a Republican.
Things must still be in a lot of flux.
Too bad we can’t move Palin into the #1 spot and replace her with Thompson.
I know - it was so funny to watch Joe Biden turn red with BDS.
Personally, I don’t really think Biden has it. I don’t know. He just seems like a big joke to me.
My best friend, Tabitha, says he reminds her of the loud, obnoxious drunk sitting at the end of the bar, flirting (unsuccessfully) with all the ladies.
That’s cute!
Thanks for saying this is cute. However, I must confess I got it from a comment from a Dem for McCain/Palin website, www.noquarter.net.
Regarding the debate last night:
Joe was Biden his time while Palin in comparison to Sarah.
Someone else on there said that Palin is America’s Princess Diana.
They love Palin over there. If you get discouraged about this election, you should go over and there and see the posts and especially the comments.
Many Dems are turning Republican this year. They are disgusted with their (former) party and can’t stand Obama.
We need to be of good cheer. The MSM is absolutely not reporting any of this.
"I'm the governor of Alaska and the GOP's nominee for Vice President of the United States of America...and you're not!"
I had to watch it thru the friendly eyes here at FR...and I thank all the posters for that....
"It's amazing, you know, she's been thrust into the national spotlight with very little preparation and I think that, all things considered, you saw a very composed and effective debater last night." -- Hillery Clinton
Something tells me that Hillery wasn't just trying to be a good sport.
Good point, I too did not watch the debate on tv but on the internet.
I think you’re on to something there. ;-)
