One historical fact that has eluded most Americans, thanks to the illiberal education they receive in school and from the infotainment media, is that fascism has always been popular among so-called "progressives" despite their tendency to mislabel and mischaracterize their political opponents as followers of the national socialist ideology.
~snip~
What is fascism?
It is a thoroughly socialist ideology that feeds on class warfare and sustains itself on authoritarianism or even totalitarianism, central economic planning, subsidies of favored "private" businesses and something we're seeing more and more of in the United States today so-called "public-private partnerships."

There are times when subsidies make sense. Critical defense industry technologies need to be in the U.S. We don't need to be buying any but the most easily reproducable parts from China.
Agriculture used to be identified as a critical defense industry. And I think it should be. It's hard to field an army if you can't feed them. We should never allow ourselves to become dependent on other countries for the bulk of our food supply.
Subsidies for energy alternatives make sense in an era where we are trying to move away from funding terrorist oil producing states. But there is a question of whether funding research to develop economically viable alteratives or funding programs that aren't quite there yet like ethanol is the best approach.
And we've had a long history of some of these type activies, and it hasn't really moved us substantially away from a free enterprise model.
The key is that subsidies when used should follow a national interest, not just some senator's favorite pork barrel constituent.
"The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

I just stated a very similar position to what Farrah has in his column to my friend the other day. I’m glad I am not the only person seeing the parallels between Mussolini’s Italy and Obama’s vision of the US.
I agree. See tagline.
Oh, you are not, believe me.
The collapse is creating even bigger financial entities. It would be much easier to control the few than a multitude.
Perfect storm if you ask me.
On the topic of fascism -
Geraldine Farraro, former Dem candidate for VP, was on FOX this morning to comment on the debate.
She summarized by telling us that she learned in her campaign that the typical American does not want 'someone like them' elected;
they want 'a leader'.
