Schwarzenegger to U.S.: State may need $7-billion loan
The Los Angeles Times ^ | 2008-10-03 | Marc Lifsher & Evan Halper

SACRAMENTO -- California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, alarmed by the ongoing national financial crisis, warned Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson on Thursday that the state might need an emergency loan of as much as $7 billion from the federal government within weeks.

The warning comes as California is close to running out of cash to fund day-to-day government operations and is unable to access routine short-term loans that it typically relies on to remain solvent.

California is spending money on illegals...why should the rest of us bail them out for the idiocy of its state government?

Pound Sand

"The origin of the expression go pound sand is from a longer expression, not to know (have enough sense to) pound sand down a rathole. Filling rat holes with sand is menial work, and telling someone to pound sand down a hole is like telling them to go fly a kite. The expression dates to at least 1912 and is common in the midwestern United States."

Not one thin dime of taxpayer money should go to bail out this bunch of Leftists. Let the profligate dunces the voters put in office get them out of this mess without our help.

Had CA allowed oil production off its coast the past decade, they wouldn’t need a bailout.

Let them go bankrupt.

Forcing one state to subsidize another, especially when the subsidized state is operating on quasi-Socialism, is not only unconstitutional but just plain wrong.

California has been overspending for years and now it wants national taxpayers to bail it out for its financial mismanagement? This is too funny for words!

I would hope that Schwarz had managed in all the time he’s been there to put California in play. Reagan did. Nixon did.

But Shwarz has played the radical leftie Rino, and because of that he has nothing to distinguish himself from the liberals with.

If he’d tried just a few conservative principles and his state were flying high, he’d be a high roller. But, he tried nothing conservative, the state looks just like it did when one liberal took over from another liberal, and his name will be remembered for nothing but Conan and muscles.

Scwarz blew a chance at history.

I am a 5th generation Californian, my family's been there since the Gold Rush. Over the past half-century, I've seen California become increasingly left wing and truly profligate in its spending. The Democrats, who have controlled the state legislature for decades, have spent and spent and spent. They just can't say no to pork barrel politics, the state and municipal employee and teachers unions. They can't say no to services for illegal aliens and tax breaks for them.

Thank God for the Initiative, Referendum and Recall (thank you REPUBLICAN Governor Hiram Johnson!) which provided some property tax relief with Proposition 13 in the late 1970s.

Tell California to cut spending until it's in line with revenues, and not to raise taxes!

Why doesn’t government (any government at any level) have to live within it’s means? If the state of California has to cut its budget, then let the state of California cut its budget; fire some of the employees and cut the benefits for illegals.

I live here, and I hope the Feds tell CA to pound sand.

California is trending wrong, in just about everything.

The state is well and truly lost. The only question is when, and how, the collapse happens.

The rest of America should only be concerned with preventing Mexico from actually taking back the state a-la Santa Ana.

Otherwise, let all the liberal policies work.

To the end... It will be messy. A lot of people will move out of the state.

Real estate will collapse, to such an extent as to re-write history books. Social order will probably become somewhat less orderly, in the larger cities.

Finally the state will go truly bankrupt. Some of the worst spending mistakes will be corrected. The budgeting process will be improved. And 10 years from now, the state will get back on its feet.

Then. Some of us will move (back) in. :)

This makes me SOOO angry. Politicians are out there telling us WE have to tighten our belts and that they’re even going to raise our taxes because of the deficit. Then they spend their states into oblivion. Why don’t the governments EVER tighten their belts? It’s always “gimme, gimme, gimme” and then when they spend it all AND MORE, they come back with more “gimme, gimme, gimme”.

We need a taxpayer revolt and a complete house cleaning at all levels of government - pronto.
