Debate leaves some young voters unsatisfied
CNN ^

Posted on 10/02/2008 11:07:04 PM PDT by Chet 99

-snip-

"Biden's response to gay marriage was more PC because he was saying he didn't feel like it should be the government's choice and that it should be left up to the individual's choice," said Aaronica Merritt, 25.

She thought the debate was engaging, but said Palin is not ready for the White House.

"The only reason why she was prepared for this debate was because she had a script," she said. "I think that Biden made really good arguments about health care and about the war in Iraq by bringing up that McCain voted against funding the troops just as Obama did."

Merritt is torn because she is adamantly anti-abortion, which aligns with Palin and McCain's platform, but is for gay marriage, which attracts her to the Obama-Biden side.

This year will mark the first time she has voted in a presidential election, she said. Previous elections made her yawn, says Merritt.

"I just didn't think there was a strong enough difference between John Kerry and George Bush," Merritt said. "Now, there is a huge difference, and there's just a much higher degree of interest overall, and you feel energized. You feel like, for once, I'm being addressed; for once my generation might count for something when it comes to deciding who is our president."

Words fail me. Did this moron even watch the debate? Biden clearly stated he was opposed to gay marriage.

This person won’t vote. Book it. This will be one of many “yoots” who were supposed to show up on Nov. 4 and vote for The One, but didn’t.

Along with all of those folks who signed up to get the VP announcement by text - whose cellphone accounts will be cancelled due to non-payment.

I always know they’re uninformed airheads as soon as they start with the phrase “speaking to my generation”. How about speaking to you as an American citizen with a vote, airhead? I blame the Sixties for this, this stupid “it’s all about me and my age group” mess, instead of simply seeing themselves as Americans. And the Barackstar is perfect for the MTV generation, which wouldn’t know an issue if it slapped them.

And Obama is?

Somebody please tell me what he has ever accomplished that qualifies this glorified cruise ship waiter to be President.

That’s what happens when you have no ideology but just take each issue seperately based on how you feel about it. At least there’s hope for someone like that.

Biden clearly stated he was opposed to gay marriage.

In fact he said he was against it after he said he was for it.

I listened to it live and in the Fox rerun.

I just finished watching Anderson Cooper and the round table discussion of the debate.

They were critical and dismissive of Palin. I watched expecting the usual bias but was shocked how little they seem to think of her.

It’s the tale of two debates depending on which network assessment you watch.

I thought she did very well.

"The only reason why she was prepared for this debate was because she had a script," she said.

Okie dokie, Palin had a script, but Biden didn't.

Joe kept looking down at his podium not because he was checking his notes, he was just being humble.

You see how that works in Aaronica Merritt, 25's mind?

I couldn’t watch this debate.

Palin’s stand on issues are exactly like mine but I can’t stand to listen to her, for the same reason I can’t stand to listen to Dubya. In his case facial espressions usually don’t coordinate at all with what he is saying - smiling, for example when describing horrible events. Palin sounds like fingernails across a blackboard and acts like an adolescent high school girl giving a speech, and even though I agree with WHAT she is saying, the midwestern cadence and folksy manner just don’t resonate with me.

Firt time I heard Obama speak it was mesmerizing until it became obvious he said ZERO! Empty speech, devoid of any meaning, spoken by an empty-suited slick promoter.

McCain is great when he’s before a crowd in a give-n-take town hall meeting. The next debate is supposed to be in that format, isn’t it? If so, I’ll watch that with interest.

Well...Kerry served in VietNam and then turned traitor.

That's a huge difference!

There was no teleprompter and no script.

I suspect that Ms. Merritt does not have to worry about getting pregnant unless her female partner artificially impregnates her while in the heat of passion.

Also CNN went out of their way to put together a phony focus group of so called undecided who just happened to send the meter off the graph when Biden spoke and base lined when Palin spoke.

It was absolutely awful.

When Palin mentioned her name the graph went negative.

These people already had the outline of this article and its headline written before the debate.

I had @100 college freshmen in my classes during the last election. Two or three voted. They voted Republican. I expect the same results this time.

“Words fail me. Did this moron even watch the debate? Biden clearly stated he was opposed to gay marriage.”

If you get a transcript of the debate you will find that Biden did say that married gay partners should have all the same rights and benefits as everyone else. He used the word married.

In the end he said he was against gay marriage.

Another in a long line of Biden gaffes.

Dick Morris on Fox News a few weeks ago said “we have a name for candidates that rely on the youth vote — we call them losers.”

Dick Morris cracked me up tonight in this post debate exchange with Alan Colmes!

Dick Morris: The loser tonight in this debate was Hillary Clinton, because there's a new woman out there who's going to be number one in this country.

Alan Colmes: Well as I said uh she'd have to get elected first.

Dick Morris: She already has been, with no assistance from her husband.

I watched part of it on BBC America. She did ok, nothing stellar IMO. Biden p.o.'d me because he kept basically calling her a liar when HE was the one who was lying about McCain's and his own record. . Pea in a pod with 0bama; repeat lies convincingly and often.

Palin turned me off by pronouncing 'nuclear' as 'nuke-you-ler' -- that drives me up a wall. She is supposed to be the expert on energy; learn how to pronounce the word, woman! There's no 'u' after the 'c'!!

Still voting for the ticket, 0bama's too dangerous not to. If she had hit it out of the park I would have sent in a second donation for sure.

It’s questionable that he “wrote” those books even.

No one under 50 has any business writing auto-biographies.

As someone else said, it was probably more of a money laundering scheme than about writing a book.

Chet, I think this youth vote is going to turn out to be a surprise. One of my partners has a daughter in college who spontaneously told him how many students were be watching the debate because they loved Palin. Someone on the live thread last night posted that a handful of faculty cheered Biden's entrance but that throngs of students were cheering for Palin.

How ironic would it be if the "youth vote" and students turned out and voted for McCain/Palin after the democrat GOTV effort?
