Republican ranking member on the House Financial Services Committee, Congressman Spencer Bachus of Alabama, is heavily against approving $805 Economic Rescue Bill in the House. Representative Bachus is being very forceful, insistent, and persuasive in his argument (against Barney Frank, committee chair) to the members of the House Rules Committee that there should be discussion allowed from the floor previous to taking a vote on what will be the House version of the Economic Rescue Bill. Representative Bachman (R, AL) wants the pricetag on the House version of the Economic Rescue Bill to be knocked down to $250 billion WITH NO PORK with the idea that Congress can revisit the issue in 4 months to see if more taxpayer money is needed in the credit/financial market.
This is too cool.....
Wow, the night just keeps getting better.
This night is getting better. If they would unload on Obama and Co. for the housing mess it would be even better.
I just sent my Rep Devin Nunes another email asking him nicely to vote no, then set the damn thing on fire. This whole $800 million porker is the biggest hoax since global warming.
Even though 250 billion is way to much it is much better than 800 billion. Way to go Congressman Bachman! Keep contacting your representatives and tell them "I know that November 4th is election day and you better do the right thing and be responsible."
Rep. Bachus (R, AL) and the representative from Yakima, Washington (R) and another republican Representative that spoke earlier from CALIFORNIA are strongly (soberly) NOT yielding their viewpoint IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE RULES COMMITTEE that debate MUST be allowed on the House floor concerning a bill of this financial magnitude in “the People’s House”. These representatives are INSISTENT that the PORK be removed from the Senate’s version of the bill.
Sorry I mistated his name at the end of my post.
Rep.”Bachman” should read as Spencer Bachus (R, AL).
Should we dare hope that the House will get wise and not vote for this?
Yes, if they hear from their a loud enough cry from their constituency. Keep the e-mails and phone calls coming, and don't forget to praise those legislators who do the RIGHT thing.
Rep. Bachus KNOWS something about what the other $555 would be used for (by Barnie Frank, Ogbama, Soros, etc).
Also, Rep. Bachus is trying to protect all of the Republican House members that are up for re-election by spearheading a MAJOR reduction in the Senate version of the bill by Republican House members.
That would be nice. Let me email some more reps.
Will do.
Rep. Bachus said that Representatives that many Republicans AND Democrats have both been coming to him to express that they would prefer his (Bachus’) proposed ammendment to the Senate version of the bill and that is one of the primary reasons WHY Rep. Bachus is unyielding.
I think many would prefer to just let the markets sort themselves out, but with this Congress that is not going to happen. Bachman's proposal, along with a few rules changes, is probably a sensible compromise at this stage. Treasury was going to end up with an immediate bailout of $250 billion to work with anyway. This would get the country past the election and the seating of a new Congress.
It appears that Rep. Lafayette (R, OH) and Rep. Spencer Bachus (R, AL) are co-sponsoring the proposed House ammendment to the Senate version of the Economic Rescue Bill that would authorize the $700 billion in the Economic Rescue Bill to be paid out of the treasury in 4-month intervals at $250 each AFTER the first $100 billion has been paid out and it can be justified to the American people that MORE is actually NEEDED.
Rep. Lafayette (R, OH) = Rep. LaTourette (R, OH)
sorry
Rep. Tom Latham (R, Iowa) is also weighing in on this issue. He is for the House Bachus or LaTourette ammendment to the Economic Rescue Bill (for initial amount = $250 B) too.
The other local Republicans Duncan Hunter and Darryl Issa will vote NO as will Socialist Dem Bob Filner. Democrat Davis will again vote YES.
Issa will offer an amendment which will give priority of the bonds for US bank bailouts, not those foreign-owned.
Doc Hastings is the Representative from Washington state (Yakima, Pasco) who is also in favor of the LaTourette ammendment to the Senate version of the Economic Rescue Bill.
Rep. David Dreier (R, CA) is the ranking member on the House Rules Committee who is going to try and see that there is discussion allowed regarding the proposed $250B LaTourette ammendemnt to the Senate version of the Economic Rescue bill.
The representative from Yakima, WA is Doc Hastings (R)...So proud:) He is a really good guy too:)
Keep standing up for our rights and freedoms. Keep standing up for a firm control on government, so it doesn’t grow into one of them tentacle monsters... You know what I’m talking about!
I want this crap sandwich gone. But of course, my concern is that Senator McCain will get angry and start complaining about it not being passed. Can you imagine this happening? Unfortunately, I can.
Sitting back....watching all this unfold so suddenly in the past couple weeks.... I get the feeling there is something much more sinister at play in these negotiations ....than meets the eye. I’m not talking about Barney, Paulson, Soros, etc.......there seems to be a missing component. Inquiring minds need to know.
I hope McCain is directing this (I have my doubts) but I hope the McCain campaign realizes they missed an opportunity to reject this bailout with all the pork in it.
The House Republicans have these snakes on this issue and I hope they don’t take their foot off these snakes heads.
