Minnesota Presidential Teeter Totter Tips Toward McCain (New SUSA Poll- McCain 47% Obama 46%)
SUSA ^ | 10/02/08

Minnesota Presidential Teeter Totter Tips Toward McCain: In an election for President of the United States in Minnesota today, 10/02/08, 33 days from the vote, John McCain and Barack Obama finish effectively even, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KSTP-TV in Minneapolis, WDIO-TV in Duluth, KAAL-TV in Rochester, and KSAX-TV in Alexandria. The nominal advantage today goes to McCain, who is atop Obama 1 percentage point, 47% to 46%, within the survey's 3.7 percentage point margin of sampling error. But: Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll 20 days ago, Obama is down 3 points. How much of this is movement and how much of this is "noise" is unclear.

Minnesota behaves unlike other states in some respects. Among women, there is movement to McCain, at a time when McCain is losing ground among women elsewhere. Among voters younger than Obama, there movement to McCain, at a time when Obama is consolidating support among young voters elsewhere. Among voters older than McCain, there is movement to Obama, at a time when older voters elsewhere are sticking by McCain. In Western MN, which abuts the Dakotas, there is movement to McCain. In Northeastern MN, which overhangs Michigan, there is see-sawing back to Obama.

If the polling companies ARG or Mason-Dixon polls Minnesota they probably would reflect the same results.

The rest of the propaganda pollsters would skew it for Obama.

Mason Dixon folks said in their Va poll analysis that things were starting to swing back to McCain the last few days nationally. That can only improve after Gov. Palin’s performance tonight. I think we will be back to a tied race shortly.

If McCain wins Minnesota he wins the election easily. They haven’t voted for a Republican for President longer than any other state.

Excellent news.. SurveyUSA has their act together. McCain needs to focus on states with low black population. He can win Minnesota.

Bush lost Minnesota by 2.4 to Gore, and 3.5 to Kerry.

These polls are ridiculous. There aren't that many states left to focus on, but I wouldn't believe the polls wholeheartedly. Get the Governor on the air in Michigan and we'll see if it's a lost cause or whatever. FREE SARAH PALIN.

Guys read between the lines here, in the senate race just released, huge protest vote against Dems,

Coleman now 10 up and 20% now voting for the independent, Franken is losing.

Are we beginning to see a bailout protest.

This poll only had a 30% repub sample, 37% dem sample, Dems overpolled and McCain still in the lead.

McCain ahead in MN?? How can that be? All we’ve heard is doom and gloom for the last week.

If this is at all accurate then it is extraordinary news, especially in light of McCain cutting back in MI. Hard to believe also that 0bama is ahead in national polls while a state he should have carried easily is this close.

It says something that Obama cannot put away Minnesota. I do not think he will put away Pennsylvania. If he's not up by +10 after the second debate, I think McCain-Palin will take it next month.

And then get her up to Duluth, and the Hockey Hall of fame in Eveleth, along with the First Dude. Lots of snowmachiners up there, for sure you betcha.

... that’s exactly what I mean. Palin just gave conservatives the shot in the arm we needed! We have to keep the momentum going on our own. We have to be very self motivated.

Conservatives will turn out to vote for her. McCain should thank his lucky stars he picked her. Otherwise, he would be toast now.

Send Sarah there this weekend!

She rescued McCain (again!) tonight! It’s time to take the leash and muzzel of of Sarah.....and put them on McCain!

I’m feeling beeter for now. I hope McCain doesn’t blow this again by opening his mouth!

“Lots of snowmachiners up there, for sure you betcha.”

We call them snowmobiles down in the Twin Cities. I can’t imagine Duluth is different.

By the way, I still can’t bring myself to vote for McCain. I have to draw the line somewhere. I didn’t vote for Coleman when he ran against the ghost of Welstone six years ago, and I’ve never regretted my decision. Cheers to Palin, though. Perhaps she’ll inagurate a new era in which the likes of McCain cannot win the Republican nomination.

“It must be terribly depressing watching everyone so happy about Palin tonight.”

Check my post again. I like Palin. She is not running.

I feel comfortable here on FR because, for the most part, people here don’t put the Republican label ahead of principles. General elections are different than everyday party purification, I realize. But like I said, you have to draw the line somewhere. We went from Reagan to the Bushes to McCain. What a falling off that is!

Rush has said that the national polls will be used to demoralized the GOPers. Meanwhile, this new round of state polls are a different story. I told the doomers to keep their powder dry. In a couple of days, we will see a McCain surge.

“She is not running.”

By that I mean to say she is not running for a significant post. Does anyone here really think she’s going to prevent McCain from ruling (on average) like a Democrat?

The McCain List.

McCain gains among women to move ahead in this traditionally Democrat state.
Sarah Palin's debate victory will help consolidate those gains.

Minnesota
McCain 47%
Obama 46%

As she is McCain's de facto adviser on energy, I'm going to go with "Yes"

Just using Alaskan vernacular. Snowmobiles they are.

"I didn’t vote for Coleman when he ran against the ghost of Welstone six years ago, and I’ve never regretted my decision"

Well I did (vote) and I have (regretted). Got a call from a Coleman fundraiser the other day. I told her my spare cash was having to go to Saudi Arabia and Iran for gas thanks to Norm's stupid vote against Anwar 5 years ago. Bet I don't get called again.

I think a visit to the Xcel Energy Center would be a great idea. I was up in Blaine for the McCain/Palin rally on 9/19 which drew lots of folks. Going to St. Paul would draw hugh crowds and provide momentum leading up to the election. They should then get up to Duluth as well.

Mass. has a low black population and no one is suggesting McCain will win the state. Minnesota has its socialist tendencies and it’s unlikely McCain will capture the state.

Huh? What the hell are you talking about?

Bush lost Massachusetts by 27 to Gore and 25 to Kerry.
He lost Minnesota by 2.4 and 3.9.

You sound awfully stupid trying to compare the two, especially with a new poll out from one of the more credible polling outfits showing McCain in the hunt.

My sister, who is a retired Pennsylvania teacher living in Arizona, told me on the phone that she is not voting for Obama because he's a "blowhard". Could have knocked me over with a feather. She's very liberal and she doesn't like McCain. Something is up out there.

Is this a ploy by the MSM? Do they want McCain/Palin to focus on a state that isn’t really a battleground rather than working hard in OH and FL? I don’t know, but I’m just glad to see a poll with them ahead.
