CA Nurses Association airs McCain/Palin ad in battleground states
http://politickerca.com ^ | Oct 1st, 2008 | By Ben van der Meer

The California Nurses Association has begun airing an ad in battleground presidential election states that suggests voters should be concerned about John McCain's health and Sarah Palin's ability to be president if he should die in office.

The ad, airing in Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin, shows images of McCain and Palin alongside a graphic that suggests a heart monitor.

Several charges against Palin are flashed on the screen, including "Opposed ‘Bridge to Nowhere' then kept the taxpayers' money" and "Wants to teach creationism in public schools," alongside a women singing "one heartbeat away."

At the end of the ad, the association notes the commercial was not affiliated with any political campaign.

The Washington Post reported that a spokesman for the Republican National Committee called the ad offensive and filled with inaccuracies. The ad was scheduled to run Wednesday and Thursday and is not scheduled to air in California.

Sounds like someone needs to freep the local hospitals in California. Just who are these nurses? I'd fire them if I were doctors.

Doctors usually don’t do the hiring and firing of nurses in hospitals. It’s usually a director of nursing who is a nurse himself/herself.

Some places you do not have a choice. I would be hesitant to join an institution that had a union. OTOH, the nurse’s union offers some darn good benefits too. It’d be like shaking hands with the devil to get them to pay for my RN degree.

As an old RN I can tell you the CA nurse association has been a #1 backer of ultra liberal agendas for many years. They are an embarrassment to their field.

Todd Palin is in a union. In fact, he might be in two. Do you think a McCain/Palin administration would agree or disagree that unions are worthy of scorn?

First of all not ALL unions are left wing liberal hacks.
Secondly, Todd Palin is not running for VP.
Thirdly, Ronald Reagan belonged to union which proves that
union members, current or past, are not liberal hacks.

true
unions used to protect their workers
if a worker in the warehouse got laid off for nothing the whole lot of workers would walk out

now they don’t protect their workers and only go on strike if they feel the benefits are taken away fro them like the UPS strike

when I called the NEA about why fees go to helping obama they actually said to me that they are a political group it was only later when I told them that they were supposed to be protecting workers did they try and retract the comment

anyway they have just lost one more member as of today

I don’t care if all those who belong to unions aren’t leftists but when they do not speak out against their corrupt leadership then they are cowards. I’ve never belong to a union, my Dad has belonged to one all his life as a coal miner but I still hate them. They are take several thousand dollars a year in dues out of his pay and they almost always support liberals on the national ticket.
If someone has a D in front they support them. They’ve been telling miners that they should support Obama because he doesn’t support nuclear power. How ignorent is that? They think union members are idiots and many times they are proved right.

CA nurses are union. They are trying to unionize other states too. Consider the source. This does not represent most nurses believe me.

My wife recently dropped out of the National Nurses Assn because of an email that asked nurses nationwide to support Obama.

She called the NNA, telling them she wanted to drop her membership immediately. When asked why, she told them that she didn’t think a nurses assosaciation should be involved in presidential politics, nor should they advise members how they should vote for Obama. They took her answers, duly noted.

One step further, my wife then contacted the Missouri Nurses Assn, asking if they were in the business of endorsing candidates. She was assured that the MONA only had interest in state issues, and no involvement in presidential elections. The director sympathised with my wife about the Obama NNA connection and agreed.

The left is everywhere campaigning for Obama. We must be vigilant!

“My single specialty practice has 50 employees about 15 of whom are RN’s”

Unless as an anesthesiologist you share some nurses and CRNA’s with a local hospital, I would be willing to bet that not one of those nurses belongs to the CNA. They don’t need the CNA to negotiate contracts with your group. They are more than willing to use CNA contract demands when their individual contracts come up for renewal.

Despicable, especially from a group such as nurses who should be the last to want to use someone’s health problems for their own gain - on the other hand Frank Luntz did an interesting bit on Fox last night in which he showed clips from his famous focus group/dial-a-response routine done on the appearances of McCain and Obama on “The View” - in both cases, when McCain was savaged and Obama was almost gang-raped by the panel, both ‘pubs and ‘rats in his group registered highly negative reactions - much of the public may be getting thorooughly fed up with the nastiness being shown to McCain and the fawning over Obama........

You will be hard pressed to find anyone who despises unions more than I, but I tend to differentiate between the quasi-professional unions like the teachers and nurses ‘associations’ and the United Steelworkers to which Todd Palin belons, whose members are in the labor category. Both types of unions are highly politial but with the ‘associations,’ politics appears to be their sole raison d’etre.
