Springsteen To Perform On Ohio State Oval For Obama [Students will Register AND Vote]

Posted on 10/02/2008 4:03:38 PM PDT by flyfree

Bruce Springsteen will perform an acoustic set as part of a Sunday rally on the Ohio State campus for Sen. Barack Obama, the campaign announced Wednesday.

The concert will take place on OSU's Main Oval, according to the Obama campaign. Gates open at 3 p.m. on Sunday and the program will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The rally will be held the day before Ohio's voter registration deadline and will encourage attendees to register to vote for the first time, or update their registration.

According to the Obama campaign, Springsteen's appearance will highlight Ohio's early voting window, which, as of Tuesday, allows for voters to cast their ballots in person at designated early vote locations across the state.

Springsteen, who also performed on The Oval for Democratic nominee John Kerry in 2004, endorsed Obama in April, writing that the Democratic nominee "speaks to the America I've envisioned in my musica country that's interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit."

According to the campaign, preferred tickets will be distributed at Campaign for Change offices from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 10 a.m. through 8 p.m. on Thursday and through the weekend.

There is not an early voting booth there? Otherwise, wouldn’t there be an electioneering (or even buying votes through free concert) problem?

I don’t think this is an early voting site, though I could be mistaken.

When they register and vote, we need challengers to request ID showing their permanent residence at the college town address. We ned to ID them and follow up to determine which ones are registered in their home towns as well, and find out who has requested absentee ballots.

If it’s not close, cheating won’t help. But we can’t risk it being close enough to steal!

They will have kids from other states voting in Ohio as I know OSU has students from probably all the other states and then those students will be ENCOURAGED to vote absentee in their home states. Two votes for the price of one.

You may have something with the “buying votes” idea. Might want to get ahold of the Ohio Republicans

These loose voting laws have got to change. It’s time to go back to registering at the elections office and voting on election day. This is becoming like a banana republic.

In Maryland a very long gobblygook-written amendment in the 2006 election had hidden in it that any college that was more than 0.5 miles from a voting location would become its own precinct. Now students won't even have to leave the campus. There will be so many double voters this year.

The republicans need to set up a registration booth and start inviting those who are republicans or who believe in rugged individualism instead of beehive socialists to join with other individual rights Americans to elect John McCain.

I’d love to see them crash the party.

Man, I remember growing up and watching “Born in the USA” and “Dancing in the Dark” videos on MTV. Just a shame that Springsteen has completely drunken the koolaid.

More Obamapallooza concerts to "warm up" the crowds. What is a concert from Broooce worth as an in kind campaign donation?

I didn’t like those songs back in the day either.

And that live video for Dancing In The Dark where an “audience member” (who later became well known as the actress she was) was pulled up on stage.

Photographer and ex-girlfriend Lynn Goldsmith didn’t have kind things to say about Bruce when he jumped into the crowd and pulled her onstage at his 30th birthday show (long after he’d been caught having an affair and they’d broken up several times).

The guy is a big jerk. He’s got a well crafted “persona” though. It’s really funny when you realize he wrote “Hungry Heart” for the Ramones and then took it back, “Fire” for Link Wray and then took it back, I can’t recall what he wrote for Joan Jett when she was left with “Light of Day”.

How come no one is registering Republicans to vote? How come we are not having concerts and events?

I hate “The Boss” with the fire of 10 thousand suns, ever since the early ‘80s and his involvement with “No Nukes”. I was only 13 but I hated liberal skunks even back then. I saw him in concert back in ‘92 and it was bloody awful, I mean “57 Channels and Nothin’ On” is some of the worst music ever recorded.

Fortunately there in the anti-Bruce: Ted Nugent.

If OSU is playing a game on Saturday - how many students will be sober or conscious to see his 'concert'?

Sunday is a sleep in day for most college students.
