Sen. Graham Responds To Bailout Vote
WSPA CBS 7 Spartanburg-Greenville-Anderson, SC & Asheville, NC ^ | 2008-09-29

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today made this statement after the vote in the U.S. House of Representatives against the financial rescue plan. He said:

“I have never been more disappointed in the Congress than I am today. I hope every member of the House of Representatives—Republican and Democrat—who voted against this legislation will work in the next twenty-four hours to improve the bill. Now is the time to put the national interest above the self interest.

“Speaker Pelosi’s partisan comments before the vote obviously did not help matters. Now is not the time for extreme partisanship but time for our nation to pull together for the common good.

“If we do not address this issue, our nation may be headed toward a major financial collapse. For the common good, we must find a solution to this problem. Without the ability to borrow money to build a business, buy a home, or go to school, our country will be brought to its financial knees.

“Today’s actions will ripple throughout our economy. More people will lose their homes. Businesses may be forced to shut their doors. Life savings and retirement accounts will take a severe hit. I fear those who voted against this legislation have put our nation’s economy at risk.

“Democratic and Republican leaders must find a way to bring more votes on board to this bipartisan bill. I will continue to do my part in this effort as I realize the cost of congressional inaction will be steep.”

Sen. Clinton’s misuse of the term doesn’t mean the “common good” is a bad concept. It is a central concept in Catholic social teaching.

Sorry, Goober! Y’all predicted that the end would come last Friday if this wasn’t passed...then the end would come on Saturday if this didn’t pass...then the end would come on Sunday night when the Asian markets opened if this didn’t pass...tonite if this didn’t pass...call me skeptical!

Yeah, things are gonna get a little hairy for awhile, but that’s the nature of the market! Enough with all the ‘we’re gonna die!!!’ stuff! Technically, yes, we will, but it’s not as drastic as y’all are trying to make it out to be! Sheesh!

Next there was immigration. Pass it or it’s the end of the world.

Now it’s the bail out. Pass it or it’s the end of the world.

Does McDonalds or Starbucks or Walmart or Target or ... really need to borrow money?

Don't they collect enough cash each day, that if managed properly (i.e.not tied up in risky speculative options) could be used to pay wages and purchase the wholesale goods and services they need to stock up their stores?

The whole Just-In-Time bunk which required all loose change to be gobbled up and reinvested in speculative stocks to "maximize profits" and borrow, borrow, borrow is a major culprit in this whole fiasco.

Well noted. However, in politics-speak, the ''common good'' is and always has been a code phrase for the extortion of the citizenry to feed the maw of the political class.

Goobermint, I assume you would agree, operates on QUITE a different level than 'Catholic social teaching'.

Republicans need to make sure that ACORN receives no additional funds in this bill. In fact, they should insist on cutting ALL Thederal Thucking Thunds to ACORN. Make the Dems fight for it, putting the ACORN issue on the front pages of the papers. Make the Sheeple say, “honey, have you ever heard of this ACORN business?” over their morning coffee. Wake the Sheeple UP!

My response to Graham is “If you can’t say something smart Lindsey then please do not say anything at all”. This bill is actually more likely to get worse now with the Democrats crafting it. The House GOP needs to stop this until they get the bill they want or no bill at all.

The bill that's going to come next, because Bela Pelosi is both politically stupid AND obstinate, is the original bill ON STEROIDS. All the goodies for LaRaza and ACORN, all the untrammelled power for SecTreas to bail out his Wall St. buddies, the lot.

The 'Pubbie members of the WhoreHouse won't touch it, not even more than 1 or 2 RINOs. The question will become whether all the 'Rats will turn into lemmings and vote for Pelosi's little Marxist dreamboat, given they'll be facing the voters in 5 weeks' time.

I say she'll crap out with her 2nd arrogant attempt, and at LEAST half her party will abandon her. How say you?

However, your example is exceptionally useful in describing the lengths to which the political class will go toward keeping their power, and the law and the Constitution be damned.

I agree about ACORN. I also think that anything in this bill that the Democrats tried to put in there that does not belong needs to be exposed. We need commercials and ads in papers with the lists of things that were attached to this bill by the Democrats like money for ACORN. Somebody needs to go over this bill with a fine tooth comb and find out what is in there and get it out to the public.

I make take this sentiment seriously if this milksop weren't always crying about getting along with the other side, which just laughs at how easily he's played.

If THIS isn't a time to be partisan--to stand up and prove how our side is the right way to go, then WHEN?

Of course, Linds can't decide whose side IS his side, so why am I bothering? What a gutless, spineless, mushmouthed twit.

And fully approved by none other that Marcus Tullius Cicero, once Consul of Rome, and arguably the greatest statesman (and certainly the greatest lawyer) ever.

William Jefferson, DEMOCRAT from Louisiana is STILL being investigated.

From Fox News website...

The trial of a Louisiana congressman charged with bribery will be delayed so an appeals court can hear arguments on whether his status as a congressman protects him from prosecution.

The trial of Rep. William Jefferson, a Democrat, had been scheduled to start next Monday. His defense attorneys filed an appeal Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Alexandria.

The appeal had been expected since earlier this month, when U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III rejected an argument that the indictment should be tossed out because it unconstitutionally infringed on his privileges as a congressman.

snip...

But he did vote "NO" on the bailout ...possibly looking for some political sympathy from the other side of the aisle, hmmm??

Looks like we may have to kill this Bullsheet Bailout AGAIN

Latest news is that the Fed just went ahead and printed another 300 BILLION dollars......

Sept. 29 (Bloomberg) — The Federal Reserve will pump an additional $630 billion into the global financial system, flooding banks with cash to alleviate the worst banking crisis since the Great Depression.

The Fed increased its existing currency swaps with foreign central banks by $330 billion to $620 billion...................... Today’s blast of term liquidity will settle the funding markets down, and allow trust to slowly be restored between borrowers and lenders,’’ said Chris Rupkey, chief financial economist at Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd. in New York

and on the supposed credit crunch, well its another huge lie........

the amount of all bank credit at all commercial banks, which is reported weekly. For the most recent week reported, the one that ended on September 9, this credit amounted to $9,406 billion, which is only slightly less than the all-time peak of $9,485 reached in the week that ended on March 26, 2008.

UNTIL THEY PUT THE CULPRITS >>IN<< JAIL, OUR MONEY STAYS >>OUT<< OF STOCKS AND BANKS.
