What the .....? I was surfing the net, looking for Obama stories and found one that was NOT good! Does anyone know what the heck this is all about? Anyone from Missouri who can shed some light on this? Let's hope it's all a bunch of overblown Repugnican crap...

Obamination: Obama Supporters Bob McCulloch, Jennifer Joyce Threaten to Prosecute People For Criticizing Obama September 24, 2008 Posted by Webmaster in Abuse of Power, Campaign 2008, St. Louis Local.

KMOV Channel 4’s TV newscast night before last at 6 PM had a story, that stated that St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, both Obama supporters, are implying that they will bring criminal libel charges against anyone who levels what turns out to be false criticisms of their chosen candidate for President.

...If a public figure brings a civil libel lawsuit against an individual or a group, then s/he has to prove to a civil jury (usually nine out of twelve jurors) that a preponderance of the evidence (i.e. it is more likely than not) shows that the defendant(s) knowingly said or wrote something factually incorrect about the plaintiff(s). If a prosecutorial authority brings criminal libel charges against a defendant on behalf of a plaintiff, as McCulloch and Joyce are threatening to do, then the prosecutor has to prove beyond a reasonable doubt to twelve out of twelve jurors that the defendant knowingly said or wrote something factually incorrect about the defendant.

The fact that the Obama campaign deleted this within hours of its appearance, and on a Sunday, shows that this is the October (or late September) surprise that will end Obama's candidacy. Please circulate the following press release from Missouri's governor, Matt Blunt.

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement

JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.

“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.

“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts - not a free society.”

This could be big. If McCain chooses to make it big. Otherwise it will remain hidden in the gutter, like all things rat-like. There to bite you but not in public view.

Dear Senator McCain: Please take action on this.

What about a 527? They’re more willing to go for the jugular than McCain.

This is what will happen to conservative voices (i.e., talk radio) if Obama is elected. It’s right out of the Alinsky playbook. It’s also the tactic used by authoritarian governments to silence criticism. This goes hand-in-hand with Biden’s recent statement that criminal charges would be filed against Bush and Cheney once they come to office. Silence and imprison the opposition.

America is in for a bleak future if Obama is elected.

McCain and Palin MUST make an issue of this in the coming debates and in future ads.

Their statement was that “ Barack is a Christian who will lower taxes on people whose income is below $250,000.”

Is this part of their job? They are not supposed to get actively involved in ANY political campaign. Buy them some brown shirts. First Amendment disappearing under BO. (2nd Amendment will be gone too)

If the ACLU was the American Civil Liberties Union instead of the American Communist Lawyers Union, they would be over this like a dog on a dropped pork chop.

Government officials using their positions of power to eliminate free speech and threaten arrest of their political opponent's supporters? If McCain were threatening to have Obama's supporters arrested the ACLU would be on it in a second. The other way around? You get nothing but cricket sounds.

I don't know how you can say it more clearly than that.

Are there any McCain operatives reading this?

I don't know how you can ignore this.

Berkley, I would go a step further and remind prosecutors in any county other than mine that outside their sworn jurisdiction, they are common nobodies. They can bite me for all I care. I will be checking in my own county, thought. They best not be involved in this.

does he not have a reset button
Actually, the problem is that it seems he DOES have a reset button and he just keeps hitting it over and over again, repeating the same lines (as you say) over and over again and not reacting to NEW INFORMATION or NEW CONDITIONS ON THE GROUND!

It's very frustrating watching the extreme lack of response of the McCain campaign to the dem complicity in the financial meltdown and now this, the dem nazification of politics.

Senator John McCain (and staff), where are you?

Actually, I am quite scared about this. Not because he tried it — no, I am scared because all the liberal idiots I know thought this is a good idea. This was one of the worst quotes:

“ok while we are at it lets elect a party whose VP has been supportive of the group (AIP) that would have her state become separate from the rest USA...let see the last time that was tried they also supported slavery...yeah that will be great..next thing you know we will have a confederate flag flying in Washington...yeah something to be proud of!!!”

He would not get a conviction, but that's irrelevant. The mere need to defend oneself against the charges would create a legal bill (and effective fine) of tens of thousands of dollars.

Currently the MSM and the Obama campaign is trying to dismiss it by saying "McCain has truth squads also". While this statement is true the McCain campaign has not filled their "truth squads" with prosecuting attorneys and law enforcement officials. The purpose of the Missouri Obama Truth Squad is obvious: Intimidation at the least, arrest and prosecution if achievable.

The Obama campaign is using the SS Play Book.
