DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW, BUILD REFINERIES (strategically located - not all concentrated in hurricane-prone areas) This specific problem is probable more caused by the fact that there is only one pipeline serving the area. But you point is true none the less, a lack of domestic energy infrastructure.
About the only government regulation that makes sense - how about rationing?
The magic of Free Republic comes through; dialog with others generating ideas. As much as I hate government interference in commerce, that probably would have prevented this specific problem.
Of course the anti-gouging laws tried to fix one problem and created another...

About the only government regulation that makes sense - how about rationing? I would prefer that to blown-up prices. How would we allocate it?
Oh, I know..... how about "To each according to his needs?"/s

How about a set number of gallons per visit... If you want/need more- get back in line.
And I do not in any way appreciate your direct (though labeled with a sarcasm tag) stab with one of the more illustrious of communist mottos.
I guess you would rather the folks who would be unable to get to work with $8 per gallon gas to be on the welfare rolls... yeah, that wouldn’t be socialist at all, would it...

...... because so-called panic buying isn’t the cause of the problem..............
I thought I was the only one in metro Atlanta (North GA) who refused to accept the shortage of gas was caused by panic.
Now I am not so lonely.

Public transportation in Atlanta?
LOL! Funny.

More frequent fillups make the lines longer, but don't increase the gas usage. It particularly makes the lines longer because of those A$$HOLES people who check their oil, wash their windows, and clean their headlights while they're parked at the pump will be at the pump more frequently. Those of us who just get our gas and go spend less time filling less gas, so it's only the pay and get in and out of the car times that are incremental. Heard on the news some woman was chatting on the cell phone while at the pump and wouldn't move her care and a numbr of people pushed her car out of the way with her in it. Talk about going out of her way to pi$$ people off. She's lucky she didn't get stomped.

And I do not in any way appreciate your direct (though labeled with a sarcasm tag) stab with one of the more illustrious of communist mottos. Like I really care. It was an on-point response to your suggestion of rationing.
Now, I'm done. I have been dragged down to your level, and am at risk of being beat with experience.
Have a nice day.
