HUNTER OPPOSED TO TAXPAYER FUNDED BAILOUT OF WALL STREET
House.gov ^ | 9/27/08 | Duncan Hunter/Staff

Posted on 09/28/2008 9:38:57 PM PDT by pissant

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) said today that he will continue opposing and vote against the $700 billion taxpayer funded bailout of Wall Street proposed by Congressional Democrats and Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson.

“If the taxpayer funded bailout of Wall Street proposed by Congressional Democrats and Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson comes to the House floor, I will vote against it,” said Congressman Hunter. “There is absolutely no guarantee under this proposal that taxpayer funds, used to purchase $700 billion of questionable Wall Street assets, would be re-circulated in the U.S. economy. In fact, this money could end up financing investments in countries around the world, including China and India.

“The base problem rests in the devaluation of real property. I would strongly support a homebuyer tax credit, as well as other incentives, that would assist in moving excess housing inventory and stabilizing the real-estate market.

“I am doubtful that the current proposal for a $700 billion bailout will have any immediate or lasting impact on our financial and housing markets. There are, however, several steps that we can take at no significant cost to taxpayers and a bailout of Wall Street is not one of them.”

Poor ol’ sensible Duncan Hunter. More than a few people used the same slurs against him that the left is using against Palin...’lack of an Ivy League University degree’, ‘one of them gun toting types’, etc, etc....

We’re watching the government do exactly the same thing they’re trying to fix....borrowing money you can’t repay because you’re in debt already! It’s simply insane.
The tax credit idea of Hunter’s is the only logic I’ve seen presented so far.

If the Dems want this passed, it will get passed. They want the Repubs name attached to this legislative Titanic. If those like Hunter, who are not running for re-election are not on board, then this ship may never be launched. I don’t think the Dems are going to accept having their name all over this legislation and be responsible for it all on their own.

If I had testicles and were in the hierarchy of the GOP, if the GOP were to ever take control of the House again, Duncan would be the next Speaker of the House.

(although the fact that I do have testicles basically means I’ll never have the chance to make a decision like that. Oh, well.)

Hunter realized that by the second debate. “The Kennedy wing of the republican party”.

Not possible as he's not liberal enough to represent today's "Wall Street" Republican Party.

The good news is that there are still a few non-Wall Street Republicans left in Congress that, with their combined voices loudly shouting, will blow the whistle on the rest of the corrupt bunch of Republican whores who've been sold out to the big banks and investment firms for years! Dims are ALL sold out whores!

How about returning to a manufacturing based economy, instead of a debt economy. Buying and selling debt is gambling.

Uummm...excuse me Congressman Hunter, but President Bush signed into Public Law a $300 billion dollar bill that already does this.

He signed it on July 30, 2008, and it goes into effect this coming Wednesday, October 1st.

The problem we're having is from Credit Default Swaps in the derivatives market. This bailout bill is a joke and thanks for voting against it - albeit for the wrong reasons.

2012 is starting to look like Palin/Hunter?

What a conservative looks like

...and sounds like...

And, Wendell, let me just give you -- you know, these presidential debates help to define our party. You know, my model is my dad, who left the Marines after World War II, came back, worked for a year as a volunteer for the Republican Party, never asked for a job, never asked for a position, but only wanted to help our country, and asked me everyday while he was alive, "What did you do for America today?" That's my model of a Republican.

This ugly financial mess were in?

Joanie-f does a pretty good job of summing it up.
Thank the democrats all the way back to Jimmy Carter.
If you think the accusation is weak, and you are willing to do the follow up research,
watch Managing Directors "Lehman Brothers"!

Tons of information, hard and furious.

Remember when I kept saying that it was the Process that generated name recognition? All the tootyfruity rudy supporters and fredbot name worshippers pissed on that notion. Back then you could have said Sarah Palin Who? But now, everyone knows her because the media lathered itself into a frenzy over such a conservative, just like I predicted. We’ve allowed the media to control the process. For the first time in history, a candidate who had DELEGATES to his name was not allowed into a debate against other candidates who had NO delegates to their name. And most Freepers just rolled over & said nothing, or even approved of it.

If Sarah Palin’s team is looking for a core of solid conservatives, they need look no further than Team Hunter. Everyone else knelt at the altar of name recognition.

Just watch. Now the Democrats and Obama are going to claim McCain is a poor leader because he couldn't bring the Republicans to support "economic stabilization."

Yes, after ripping McCain for sticking his nose in where it didn't belong, they're now going to rip him for not being involved enough. As I understand the Democratic position, the newly chosen leader of the Republican party should deliver votes to the Democratic leadership upon their demand. It's not his place to know what they are voting on.

Hunter's against it, but for the wrong reasons.

He should be more worried that the $700 billion might be spent domestically, and he should be asking if it's the role of the Federal Government to keep home prices up, which he apparently thinks is an admirable goal.

Perhaps his son has a better grip on economics. We can hope.
