Despite reports to the contrary, Tracy Jopek , mother of the late Sgt. Ryan David Jopek, very much approves of Senator Barack Obama's mention of her son during Friday's debate.
She acknowledges e-mailing the campaign in February asking that Obama not mention her son in speeches or debates. But she says Obama's mention on Friday was appropriate because he was responding after Senator John McCain said a soldier's mother gave him a bracelet.
Jopek says Obama's comment rightfully suggested there's more than one viewpoint on the war.

Big effin’ deal. The fact of the matter is Hussein’s pov is more akin to Cindy Sheehan—and McCain represents the BULK of the soldiers in the military.
Advantage: McCain.

There are way too many Americans who do not know how to interpret the information thrust at them daily by the mainstream media. As a result, such people will vote for whomever they FEEL best about, instead of thinking (at a philosophical level) about it.

She’s an Obama supporter (he ex supports McCain I think) and so it stands to reason that she would give the OK rather than have the incident hurt his campaign. It’s her son, she gave Obama the bracelet and she’s entitled to change her mind. However, that doesn’t change the fact that Obama couldn’t remember the Sgt.’s name and had to read it, which speaks volumes no matter what Mrs. Jopek says. If I wore the bracelet of a KIA soldier, you can bet I’d read it every day and say a prayer. I wouldn’t need to be reminded of the soldier’s name.

She was against it before she was for it. Typical Sheehan syndrome. How awful to use your child as a political tool. God take care of our military.

Funeral services will be held Monday in Merrill for Ryan David Jopek, a sergeant with the Antigo and Merrill-based National Guard unit who was killed while serving in Iraq.
Sgt. Jopek, 20, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006 from a roadside bomb in Tikrit, Iraq. He was a member of Troop E 105th Cavalry, based in Antigo and Merrill. The unit was mobilized to Iraq on June 6, 2005 as part of the Appleton-based 2nd Battalion, 127th Infantry and is scheduled to return home later this month.
Born June 1, 1986 in Alliance, Neb. he was a son of Tracy (Smith) Jopek of Merrill and Brian Jopek of Antigo. He graduated from Merrill High School in 2004.
Sgt. Jopek followed in his father's footsteps and joined the Wisconsin Army National Guard in August, 2003 as a scout assigned to Troop E, 105th Calvary. In Iraq, the unit was responsible for providing convoy security.
Sgt. Jopek was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and Army Commendation medals. Additional medals include Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Iraqi Campaign, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service, and the Armed Forces Reserve with "M" Device. He also received the Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon and the Combat Action Badge. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant posthumously.
He enjoyed playing basketball, soccer, golf and football. He was also interested in music, monster trucks, airplanes, and his 1966 Chevrolet half-ton pick-up truck, which he planned to restore.
Sgt. Jopek was an avid Chicago Bears fan and his family said he modeled his life after his childhood hero, the legendary Bear running back Walter Payton. He loved all of his many friends and family.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister, Jessica Jopek of Merrill; a brother, Steven Jopek, Merrill; maternal grandparents, Donald and Carrie Smith of Bayard, Neb.; his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Peg Jopek of Antigo; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at the Merrill High School Field House. Rev. Robert Smallman and Rev. Charles Hoffmann will officiate.
Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Merrill National Guard Armory.

The only reason the Obama campaign / MSM is writing this story is it’s afraid of how weak Obama looked with his “I have a bracelet, too” comment.

Ok so the progression goes like this: They dont report the initial, and true, story that Obama wears the bracelet and mentions the soldiers name even though the parents requested he not do that. Then they go find the mother and get her blessing to put out the fire of the story they refused to report to begin with while proving the original unreported story in the text of the refutation story. On top of that they neglect to even mention the fact that Obama didnt remember the soldiers name and had to read it off of the bracelet he was asked not to wear. The mind boggles at the contortions the media are going through to elect Obama. Im dizzy.

The problem is that the earlier stories only quote the ex-husband, who says she was outraged and wouldn’t speak, both of which now seem to be untrue. On top of that, I doubt she gave Obama the bracelet because she opposes him and supports the war. And if she did, you can be certain he wouldn’t have worn it or mentioned it.

McCain did the same thing.
Maybe they both should stop. Dead troops should not be used by either side.

Believe me I agree with you. I was just appalled to
see him not even be able to remember the soldiers name, thats all. I have a son that just got out after eight years and another one going in next year. This makes me sick.

Someone just decided to channel Cindy. Its a shame. All of the Gold Star parents who are hurt by this crap should come forward and give their feelings on this. I am tired of one or two parents speaking for the thousands who don't agree with them.
Especially when this come is service of people who have no care for that Mother in pain than they did for Cindy. Use them, and dump them.
Its sad.

I agree. Also Alliance, NE is about 50,000 population max. I suspect she does not want her neighors knowing this. I traveled the state from Omaha years ago. Word gets around in small towns.
