McCain's for the bailout?

Posted on 09/28/2008 2:09:48 PM PDT by daddydoo

I've read that John McCain told George Stephannapolis he would vote for the bailout bill. That pretty much does it with me and Republicans. Some Maverick!

Which bailout bill—the compromise?

If so, the House GOP is voting for it too.

McCain's actual vote at this time is unknown. Heck, the final bill is unknown. But if he does vote for a bailout that a majority of House GOP vote against, he will likely lose the election.

Well, he has to vote for it so Obama can vote for it without political consequence.

You need to reread the transcript. He stated that something needs to be done and that he has not seen anythiing in writing. He chose to defer until then.

Come back over Chicken Little. Until we see what Team Schmidt will have him do.

I saw some guy on FOX news about 3pm EDT discuss Obama's support. He said Obama was taking a "pragmatic" approach and would wait and see what the bill was. He would then determine if the bill met his criteria. The guy was not real certain what the criteria was, but he was able to articulate a couple of high level principles.

Obama does not know what he would do -- well he does. He will vote for whatever appeals to most people so he can get elected.

Despite warnings from GOP members of Congress in 1992, Clinton pushed extensive changes to the rules requiring lenders to make questionable loans.

GROW UP! oR JUST quietly go into the voting booth and vote for Obama, or just stand outside the voting booth with a sign,”I’m not voting and so come on in all you Obama voters.’ and after you have done that...STFU!

According to AP on Yahoo this does nothing for people in foreclosure. Here’s the paragraph cut and pasted:

Homeowners faced with foreclosure or those who have lost their homes get little help from the agreement. Nor will it help people whose houses are worth less than what they owe get refinancing or take out equity loans.

Fedupusa.org mentions this is not a matter of money but of TRUST. McCain campaign should consider running as the candidate you can TRUST perhaps. “Change” is sort of over at this point for both of them. It struck me that the whole “trust” issue has been pretty much ignored by the campaigns this time around. He also needs to “marry” Obama to Peolosi/Frank/Dodd the way they are trying to make him a clone of Bush.

I’m not sure Barry will show up to vote. Bill Burton kept sidestepping the question on Fox this morning. When pressed he finally said that IF Obama is needed then he will be there to vote. I bet that little weasel doesn’t show up to vote so that he can ONCE AGAIN not take responsibility for it when this house of cards falls.

Your right . Everyone freaks out when they hear a rumor or a misposting .
Last week, some Troll intentionally misposted a ABC article stating McCain supported the original bill( when in fact the article title was wrong) but the reaction was the same over top blah, blah ,I will never vote for him .. It turned out to be a Troll scam .
Granted the idiots at the Bush admin and Paulson ( a Dem and buddy of Chuckie Schummer) are involved .

Have you all just thought that maybe its the House GOP that has it wrong?

Have you even read the proposal that the House Republicans have put out?

They're proposal is not socialist in nature and does not require tax-payer money and does not reward the bad actors in this problem.

Once you have read it, unless you are not a conservative, you will realize that your post was a wee-bit misinformed.

Here’s an idea for the drama queens, teach the GOP a lesson and stay home. Worked last time.. /s

Seriously, I wish my mind could grasp the basics of the bill, but it cannot. I have to trust my own judgement after reading the comments on FR. (After 8 years, I have a list of those whose opinions I value.)

Of this I am certain, as a whole, our nation has the government it has asked for. (Present company excluded, of course) Very sad.

You're correct. I picked that off a blog, Rick Perlstein, I think, now I can't find it. He was writing about this bailout and got the 1992 wrong. Info correct, date wrong.

I failed to notice the date he used wrong.

The only potential political upside for McCain would be for him to vote against the bill. Barry HAS to vote for it, because it was largely a product of his caucus. Of cource, McCain would have to fight against his inner-RINO to do that.

McCain could be a weaselly Senator and not be present for the cloture vote and then rush in to vote against it. However, any House Republicans that voted for the bill would probably tear McCain limb-from-limb. Good thing that he has USSS protection!

Most of the problem is frustration over how it is going down.

Yes, something had to be done according to Mccain, who said today that nothing could not be done.

But the GOP and Mac failed to grab this issue by the throat and pin it on the real culprits, who now monopolize the microphones and blame bush, call mccain bush III, they escape from the real blame, they will shift credit to Nobama, and politically, we have not done nearly as well with this issue as we had hoped. There was a huge lost opportunity here.

now, things are still fluid and that could change, but the way it is going down is not helping Mcpalin at all.

I would tend to agree with it, but the goal is not to help those who are in foreclosure, but rather to prevent the banking system from collapsing, and causing a Depression. The better argument is simply that it’s not needed to accomplish that result.

Thank you all for saying what I was about to.
Sometimes when I read some posts I think I got hijacked to another place.
McCain has put a lot of time into this, unlike Obama.
He is going to be damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t.
I am not sure about a lot of things these days.
One thing I am sure about is that I will do everything in my power to defeat Obama.
To do anything else is well...just plain idiocy.
