Family Told Obama NOT To Wear Soldier Son's Bracelet... Where is Media? By Warner Todd Huston (Bio | Archive) September 28, 2008 - 03:53 ET
Barack Obama played the "me too" game during the Friday debates on September 26 after Senator John McCain mentioned that he was wearing a bracelet with the name of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, a resident of New Hampshire and a soldier that lost his life in Iraq in 2006. Obama said that he too had a bracelet. After fumbling and straining to remember the name, he revealed that his had the name of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek of Merrill, Wisconsin.
Shockingly, however, Madison resident Brian Jopeck, the father of Ryan Jopeck, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son's name on it. Yet Obama continues to do so despite the wishes of the family.

Truly Scum!
Didn't Obama say,SGT?
Never mind....need my coffee.
Don’t give scum a bad name. Pick something else ...
Obama is a liberal. Liberals do whatever is expedient. They have no shame.
He is a man without ANY moral principles....he is a Marxist and there is no truth for him...only the exertion of his own power. His red diaper upbringing, his abandonment issues by both parents and his total immersion in anti-American ideals as a young man and adult, has produced a very, very, very dangerous man.
He has been threatening people for a very long time. I have some personal accounts of this in Chicago. Yesterday, I drove by his old office, he had as state senator in Chicago. It is a disgrace. It is completely boarded up and abandoned. He has abandoned that neighborhood completely that he was supposed to be representing. There is a youth center across the street from this building that he once occupied. It is now is a potential danger for those young people as abandoned buildings attract all the wrong elements.
The McCain campaign and the 527s need to blow this up in his face. McCain should not mention it himself, but this could be the nail in the coffin for The One.
ping
Imagine how she feels now, that he had to fumble for the young man’s name and flaunted his bracelet like it was some fashion accessory that he was not going to be caught without. I up wid dat, I got me a bracelet too!
Wow, if I was the mom the Secret Service would have to stop me from flying at him. grrrrr
Perhaps the Viet Cong can provide BO with a name more fitting his profile.
This would be a major blow, BUT...
It would have to be done by the news media, not a 527. Remember the family didn’t want the bracelet to become a political hot potato, so they probably wouldn’t want McCain using Jopek’s name to destroy Obama, either.
Still. Wow. Just wow.
McCain wears a bracelet with Cpl. Stanley’s name, Obama has Sgt. Jopek on the bracelet he wears.
I’m not a bit suprised but I am nonetheless completely disgusted
McCain should just say - “Senator Obama, a bracelet on your wrist doesn’t mean anything if you don’t bother visiting our troops when your in Europe. Your bracelet doesn’t mean anything if you’d make their sacrifice meaningless by turning our victory in Iraq into a defeat by pulling out too soon. I’ve worn this bracelet for a long time, and it reflects my lifelong commitment to your troops, and my empathy and understanding for their sacrifice to out country. You’ve worn that bracelet for a short time, Mr. Obama, and frankly, I think it is a good symbol for you as well, it reflects that fact that you wear your commitment to our troops on your sleeve.
That’s such disrespect on Obama’s part.
If you bring up an "issue" with a career politician, how can you expect it not to be used politically ?
Yes, this needs to be a 527 ad. With the father if possible to reinforce the fact that scumbag Obama will use people for political gain. That is not the person you want as CIC or in the presidency. This is something that would be an uproar had a Republican done it. We need to engage in war with the press. They are getting away with too much and Republicans/conservatives need to take the opportunity they get with them to question the media in their handling of this extremely activist campaign. THE MEDIA IS NOT BEYOND REPROACH AND QUESTION.
Sounds like family needs to report a stolen bracelet. Last seen in the possession of BHO.
Send that to the McCain campaign...brilliant posting!!
BS. She is an Obama supporter and self-described political junkie. Read this story, which was written on February 18, 2008. Why Obama wears a fallen soldier's bracelet
I suspect that the Obama campaign initiated this bracelet scam.
It could be, if you could find the coffin. Unfortunately, the media keeps hiding it.
Has anyone gotten the audio to play? WMP and Quicktime wont play it here
So...we should have a McCain ad exploiting the father to reinforce the fact that the scumbag 0bama is using grieving families for political gain?
Bumpy to the skinny little kid abusing soldiers. The media ought to be playing this one hard. Where is BOR reporting on this one?
If he’ll disrespect soldiers while trying to get votes, imagine what he’ll do for them if he becomes President.
“Now, now, you people. Quit nit picking obama for having a lapse of memory. You should focus on the issues instead of petty little ‘gotchas’.
Never mind that the propaganda machine of the left is trying to destroy Sarah Palin by inventing lies whole cloth...
BUMP
Another BUMP
bump
I give thanks that there are such fine men and women like SGT Jopek willing to protect us.
And I wish I had words to comfort SGT Jopek's mom... like many parent's, with each deployment, I pray my son returns unharmed.
To pile insult onto injury here, the Mother doesn't even want to force the issue of telling Obama to stop exploiting her son because she wants to see him win the election. Obama is not only taking advantage of this brave soldier's death, he is taking advantage of the good wishes of the man's Mother who doesn't want to hurt the campaign.
So we have a case here of the father who's not a fan of Obama, and the mother who is - but neither of whom want their son exploited. The mother may be a "political junkie", but for the time being it sounds like she actually wants to preserve some dignity for her son and doesn't want to fashion herself into another Cindy Sheehan.
Here is what I think happened. When Obama was campaigning in WI, the mother, Tracy Jopek, approached Obama or one of his campaign staff to relate her feelings about the loss of her son. The Obama campaign, well aware of the fact that McCain uses his bracelet as a standard part of his campaign stump speech, decided that they could counter McCain's emotional appeal as to why victory in Iraq was needed, i.e., so the sacrifice of these brave men and women are not in vain. Obama could now have his own bracelet, with a different emotional message, i.e., we need to get out of Iraq so no more brave Americans die in vain. They then suggested to the mother that they would be willing to have Obama wear a bracelet similar to the one McCain wears. She agreed. I am curious as to who had the bracelet made [payed for it] and when.
The mother, supposedly, is not answering questions from the media. I believe she is trying to hide the details as to how the bracelet idea came about. Her son had died two years earlier in August 2006.
I wonder if there is ANY hope that there is a journalist in the mainstream liberal media that will break ranks and risk his or her job to level with his or her audience. We need help in getting these personal stories of barak out to the nation since the liberal press is doing everything possible to keep barak's background a secret. The bracelet story makes me feel very sad for the soldier's family. How helpless they must feel. They have no help from the press.Must be how the proud parents of fallen soldiers (heros) feel when cindy sheehan degrades their children with mock grave markers.
And on top of it, he can't even remember the soldier's name. I'd love to see an ad from McCain on this.
Maybe when Obama in the debate glanced at the Hero bracelet he wore it was not to recall the name of Sgt. Ryan Jopeck, but in a moment of guilt over still wearing the bracelet that he was asked to remove by the family.
It didn’t last long.
Anything's possible. Looks to me so far that Dad just doesn't like Obama, and Mom may be having second thoughts about having her son so prominently displayed. We'll see how it plays out.
That was my initial comment on this thread, but after reading the whole article, if they did that, in my mind, they would be politicizing it, which is what the family is hoping to avoid. Perhaps if just a 527 group used it, and not the McCain campaign. The mother appears to be naive in her belief that Obama wouldn't use it as a political ploy. And on top of it, she's still planning to vote for him. Sad.
The soldier loses his life to a roadside bomb and the woman plans to vote for a man who has terrorists as his friend. Now don’t that beat all.
Sent to Drudge ect.
You should be a McCain campaign advisor.
That is the smartest. most effective comeback for the bracelet issue I’ve seen.
Please forward it to the campaign.
...with each deployment, I pray my son returns unharmed.

Please thank your son, on my behalf, for keeping my family safe. Thank you for raising such a fine young man.
Truth starts to come out.
bttt
OK, if the family told him not to wear it back in March, why didn’t he get the word out to his supporters in the military (there must be some) that he needs a bracelet to replace the one he was asked not to wear.
Cindy Sheehan?
Obama seems to have adopted Bill Clinton’s brazenness for bold face lying, knowing that the more boldly the lie is spoken, the easier it is to cover up when exposed.
