Revenge of gun owners

Last spring, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to arms, Democrats hoped the decision would neutralize the gun issue. Instead the ruling, by inviting debate over which kinds of gun control are constitutional, has made the issue more salient.

That's bad news for Barack Obama, whom the National Rifle Association says "would be the most anti-gun president in American history." The Democratic nominee pays lip service to Second Amendment rights while calling for "commonsense," "reasonable" restrictions. But Mr. Obama's sense of what is reasonable, while common among the left-liberal politicians and activists inside his comfort zone, may seem decidedly unreasonable to the pro-gun voters the NRA is trying to mobilize against him.

Since these voters made a decisive difference in the 2000 presidential election and arguably in 2004 as well, this is a threat Mr. Obama ignores at his peril. The NRA plans to spend $15 million urging voters in battleground states of the Midwest and Mountain West to "Defend Freedom" and "Defeat Obama." Meanwhile, the Obama campaign is running radio spots in swing states such as Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia that promise "Barack Obama and John McCain will both make sure we keep our guns."

Although Factcheck.org faults the NRA for distorting Mr. Obama's record, every falsifiable claim in its TV spots has a factual basis. In one ad, a Virginia hunter complains that Mr. Obama supports "a huge new tax on my guns and ammo," referring to a position Mr. Obama took in 1999. He adds the Illinois senator voted to "ban virtually all deer-hunting ammunition,"in his 2005 vote for a federal ban on rifle ammunition "designed or marketed as having armor-piercing capability," phrasing that arguably covered deer-hunting ammunition.

The NRA ads seek to reinforce the impression of Mr. Obama's cluelessness. "Where is this guy from?" asks the hunter. "He's probably never been hunting a day in his life." Two of the ads allude to Mr. Obama's notorious comment that working-class voters in Pennsylvania and the Midwest "get bitter" during hard economic times and "cling to guns or religion." What will Mr. Obama cling to when voters question his commitment to the Second Amendment?

Can anyone who is a member of the NRA or Gun Owners of America (like me) be possibly fooled by the democrat party into believing they are pro 2nd amendment when they have demonstrated for decades that they are not???

For one, I do not cling to my guns or religion...

I gently grip, control my breathing, and pray that I am accurate enough to hit the ground if I fall...

The truth is that I do not care what Obama is about...He does not represent anything this country needs because of the past, nothing of the current, and that the future cannot be changed, only experienced...

And those that blindly follow and support this abomination to the country’s founding principles are not worth my time, sacrifice or loyalty...

We have about 40 more days to go, before the inevitable happens...I “hope” we at least make a showing...

This is our last chance...

I think America is real close to civil unrest. To take away ones firearms would and should lead to a firestorm.

Back in 2004 I was at a skeet/trap range and saw a bumper sticker that said "Sportsmen for Kerry"........

Hey there, we are back amongst the living again after ten days of purgatory.Illinois has always been an anti-gun state. You have to have a firearms ID card just to buy ammo and if you are under 21 Y. O. you can not buy any ammo that might fit in a handgun. Shotguns only with slugs for deer hunting, no rifles except muzzle loaders for that hunting season. About the only thing you can hunt with a ceterfire is groundhogs.Most of the citizenery there frown on most handgun ownership, they have been brainwashed early on. I left that state in 1969, how anyone could put up with that socialist,nanny state is beyond me.

There is a certain type of gun owner who is myopic and has tunnel vision, although such a person is usually too apathetic to join the NRA or GOA. He might be glad that the Democrats will make it harder for inner-city people (read: blacks) to own handguns or he thinks anyone who owns a modern rifle ("assault rifle") is a Timothy McVeigh. He is the type of person who cannot appreciate the value of anything. He is the type of person who inherits the Luger grandpa brought home from the Great War (a gun worth $thousands) and has it engraved with his initials and nickel-plated and I don't know, has fancy sights welded to it (so the once-valuable gun is ruined). And he thinks he did himself a great favor because he has this nice and shiny gun that is worth $100 for parts. Such a doofus cannot imagine the Second Amendment has walue, either.

Yup. Then we will see the maelstrom. It’s not going to be pretty. But somehow, some way, we will have to pull America back from the abyss and save her. She is worth saving, my friend. She is worth our lives, our fortunes, our sacred honor. A new generation of patriots will make the sacrifice. Or we will die trying.

Take a look at the new Mossberg “Just In Case” shotguns (JICs for short). Each comes with it’s own carry/tote/bury tube......Marine Coat, Desert Camo, and a regular old black version.....Pretty neat...I got the Camo....

Stockpile ammo...my local gun store says it has a hard time getting ammo. I have been buying large quantities over the internet where it is a lot cheaper.

They mention burying, but the real advantage is that the case is water tight....plus it’s easier to throw behind a seat or in the trunk without someone seeing you’re putting a shotgun in your car/truck.

I had to giggle at that. My DH has been stockpiling ammo ever since my boys got old enough to start shooting. Everytime I see his truck backed up to his “reloading shop”, I know he’s bought another load. I am clueless on the total he has spent, and I like it that way. I don’t want to know.

OBAMA isn't after the members of the NRA or GOA. How many paid members of the NRA do we have? About 4 or 5 million at the most? How many more HUNTERS enjoy the sport and the benefits hard fought for by the NRA without ever admitting there was even a need to fight that fight? THAT'S the target of the Obama campaign. These folks love to hunt but probably don't feel the need to carry a gun for self defense and probably use the duck shottie for the remote prospect of "home defense."

Guns aren't their number one issue. It will be something more tangible like the economy OR the war. They will be wholly unaware and uncaring that on those issues (and many more) they've been manipulated by the msm and by their respective public schools since they were old enough to watch tv or go to school. If they don't know they were duped, what makes anybody think they'll be inspired to seek more knowledge which will likely be more of the same anyway?
