Left Angered Over Erin Brockovich Praise for Sarah Palin
NewsBusters ^ | September 27, 2008 | P.J. Gladnick

Julia Roberts might not be too happy when she finds out that the woman she portrayed in a movie of the same name, Erin Brockovich, is currently praising Sarah Palin. This is considered an act of treason by the left. And that is not the only "heresy" committed by Erin Brockovich who, until recently, was considered to be a "progressive." An article by John Vidal in the UK Guardian details Brockovich's "thought crimes" (emphasis mine):

...Although she rates herself as a leading environmentalist, she is extremely keen on Sarah Palin, the huntin', shootin' Alaskan governor running for vice president with the Republican candidate John McCain.

Environmentalists have painted Palin as the arch-enemy, to the right of Bush, because until last week she was denying climate change had anything to do with man, thought polar bears could go live on land and wants to see the Arctic drilled to within a quart of its oil.

But Palin is also being called the "Erin Brockovich of Alaska" and last week, on her blog, Brockovich came close to endorsing Palin. "Sure, she may be loud. So am I," she said. "Sometimes you've got to scream to get anyone to hear you. So what if her 17-year-old is pregnant? None of us should judge Sarah Palin for anything but her own actions."

Isn't that who liberals are? Non judgmental and tolerant? So what is the Left angry about, exactly?

Although I don’t like the glut of lawsuits clogging our court systems, it’s not as if Brockovich’s was uniquely progressive. I suppose the progressive idea is that business as a whole is unfit to regulate itself, and thus needs to be regulated step-by-step. However, it isn’t as if conservatives lack a built-in repsonse to infecting people with cancer. It’s called the inviolable self. It’s called property rights.

Kathleen Parker should be ashamed of herself. Here's what she said about Sarah:

""No one hates more than I do, ....Like so many women, I've been wishing her pain....."

At least that what the edited version says and that's how we should judge her.

Erin Brockovich endorsing Sarah Palin may not sway a lot of votes to the McCain-Palin ticket but it demonstrates the reality that millions of non-conservative women identify with Palin and will probably vote the Republican ticket in November.

Frankly, I think a lot of folks are fed up with the lefts maniacal, ugly hatred of Sarah Palin and will see Erin Brockovich's tacit endorsement as reflecting their own feelings on Palin.

I may be dreaming but I see a decisive win for the GOP in November. From a revulsion with the lefts anti-Palin (and McCain) hatred to the media dishonesty about Obama to the 'Bradley Effect', I think the Democrat candidate will fail miserably. Americans don't like arrogance and Obama is the epitome of arrogance.

If I remember correctly, Erin Brockovich lost left-wing loony friends once when she got pregnant and was in the process of a divorce, among other things going wrong in her life. Those fairweather friends had advised her to have an abortion and she refused. So it’s not the first time she’s committed heresy against the feminazi religion.

Tony Strickland’s campaign mailed out a flyer that prominently features Erin Brockovich. She writes, “And I’m voting for Tony for one very good reason — he’s the best person for the job. Tony listens, he’s open to new ideas, and he gets it done and that’s good enough for me.”

She is now anathema to orthodox Democrats and has been to her last Hollywood party.

Yep....I'm thinking that there will be a "Palin Effect".

That is the women who says to her non leg shaving friends, "Sure...I'll vote for Obama"....to her insufferable college boyfriend, "Sure...I'll vote for Obama", to her anxious children, "Sure...I'll vote for Obama" and then goes into the booth...punches McCain/Palin....comes out and answers, "Obama" when asked who she voted for.

She will then be forced to attend "Diebold Stole Another One" protests....

....but with a slight smile.

Well, well...this reminds me of the article that I posted on a thread on FR that appeared in ChronWatch-America a few weeks back. It compares the story of Brockovich's achievements - without the help of feminists, or a Harvard Degree, or a left-wing playbook - to the rise of Palin and her success.

Hold on just a minute ...

Environmentalists have painted Palin as the arch-enemy, to the right of Bush, because until last week she was denying climate change had anything to do with man, thought polar bears could go live on land ....

In real context: our kind has been here in a sentient way for the equivalent of 1/10,000th of a second of "Gone With the Wind." That's our entire history on this planet so far. This earth has been constantly changing in climate and sea levels and weather and atmosphere (not to mention magnetic polarity) for billions of years. About 500 years ago, the climate was so cold in California that there was snow all the way down to the water line in an area that hasn't seen snow for as long as anyone can remember now.

Today, if snowy winters took hold in the coast mountains north of San Simeon, it would shake environmentalists to their boots. The fools would start talking about relocating turtles (which have been around since before the dinosaurs about 210 million years ago!!! Think there might have been some major climate changes during that time???) to save them from extinction.

Man o man, I dearly wish the Republican party would be the official bearer of the "Take It Somewhere Else" attitude toward environmental alarmism. It is a hoax. Politicians who say otherwise are craven and dangerous.

Brockovich is out pimping for the asbestos lawyers. I got into it a week or so ago on here with a FReeper who thought that she should be compared favorably with Palin. I said that though the power company had caused some pollution, even today the science community disagrees as to the health damage to humans. The fact that she’s working for asbestos slip and fall trial shysters shows she’s no friend of those who believe in product choice and lower insurance rates. In the end we decided to agree to disagree

Tony Strickland’s campaign mailed out a flyer that prominently features Erin Brockovich.

She's done a TV commercial for him too, and that made me very curious.

With a little Googling I found the following quote from a left-wing website that tries to give the impression of being an "impartial" source of info on Ventura County politics. Interesting stuff:

"Celebrity crusader Erin Brockovich has turned her back on the people and issues that made her famous. Brockovich did a commercial for Tony Strickland touting him as some one who gets things done. The only thing we have seen him do is support polluters, tobacco and insurance companies against the best interests of the people of California.

"Inquiries show that her former boss Ed Masry’s son, Louis Masry, has higher political aspirations, ran a failed council campaign in Moorpark and has strong ties to the Stricklands. He donated $2,000 to the Strickland campaign. We think she was pressured to help out Louis’ political career. Jam her email inbox with mail:"

Nice. To make things even more interesting a very far Left Muslim woman born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, named Ferial Masry has been challenging Tony's wife Audra for Tony's former Assembly seat. Audra ran for it and won when Tony was term-limited.

Masry isn't a common name in Thousand Oaks. None of her biographies I've been able to find spell out her relationship (if any) with Ed Masry, who died in 2005. His wife's name is/was Joette so I'm suspecting he may be a daughter-in-law.

Strange stuff.

All of what you said is correct. The Simi Valley-Moorpark area is changing. It was and still is a strong Republican area. But the adjacent San Fernando Valley is changing and this is driving changes in the SV-Moorpark area. Lots of liberals from the West Hills Canoga Park area are leaving the SF Valley and moving out to Ventura County (SV-Moorpark area) largely to escape the changes in SFV.

They are bringing their liberal mentality with them and digging into the local and county governments. The result is that Ventura county will become much more liberal in about 10 years and will then begin to have all the money problems associated with LA County, and for the same reasons.

I agree with what you posted -- I live in Ventura County and see the increasing L.A. liberal mentality daily. But that wasn't the point of my post. Strickland's a Republican. I'm trying to understand why Brockovich would make such a political about-face.

Ed Masry, Brockovich's late employer, appeared to be a very left wing guy. What turned his son into a Strickland supporter? I'm also curious about the relationship of Ferial Masry to Ed Masry, if any. Did some member of the Masry family marry a Muslim or is the name just a coincidence? As a voter I'm trying to untangle this very complicated knot of relationships.

You could call Audra Strickland’s office and ask her staff. Although you won’t get truly unbiased information, they may be able to give you a lot of background about Ferial Masry. By the way, I recall that on the ballot she was listed as an ‘educator’ and that her campaign literature mouthed all the liberal platitudes about the need to fully fund education, etc.
