Obama stretched out his schedule for withdrawing troops from Iraq. During the debate, Obama said we could "reduce" the number of combat troops in 16 months:
Obama: "Now, what I've said is we should end this war responsibly. We should do it in phases. But in 16 months we should be able to reduce our combat troops, put provide some relief to military families and our troops and bolster our efforts in Afghanistan so that we can capture and kill bin Laden and crush al Qaeda."
But in Oct. 2007, Obama supported removing all combat troops from Iraq within 16 months:
Obama (Oct. 2007): "I will remove one or two brigades a month, and get all of our combat troops out of Iraq within 16 months. The only troops I will keep in Iraq will perform the limited missions of protecting our diplomats and carrying out targeted strikes on al Qaeda. And I will launch the diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives that are so badly needed. Let there be no doubt: I will end this war."
The quote appears in "Barack Obama and Joe Biden on Defense Issues" a position paper that was still available on the campaign's Web site as Obama spoke.

There is a world of difference between "reduce" which is what everyone is calling for in the next 2 years and a blanket commitment to remove "all combat troops" within 16 months, which is what Obama's commitment has been all along.
Quick, someone alert the Moonbat Left, Obama is trying to wriggle out of his previous staunch commitment!! No one is doubting that many combat brigades will be withdrawn from Iraq in the next 2 years, but Obama had distinguished himself with the Moonbats by making blanket pledges to remove all combat troops within a fixed timeframe.
The distinction is between “reduce” and “remove all” — it’s a huge deal, potentially.
“Reduce” opens the door to all sorts of variation and judgments about pace and scale of the reductions.
To “remove all” within 16 months, given the logistics involved, requires a very strict schedule of continual departures of combat brigades.
Is Obambi flip-flopping on the previous commitment that made him beloved by the Moonbats??? Now he sounds like Hillary Clinton maybe..... or most Republicans (though if push comes to shove and conflicts in Iraq flared up again, Obama would surely push hard for continued troop withdrawals no matter what). Still, “reduce” means anything below current levels, which is a very different thing from “remove all”....
He’ll lie about anything to get in power.
After all, the end justifies the means.
Right. We are reducing now. So Obama apparently agrees with George Bush’s policy after all.
What about his violation of the Logan Act?
Did he get away with that atrocity too?
He was for the timetable before he was against the timetable.
Pulled so many Kerrys last night it was laughable.
Barry Zer-O never told a lie he didn’t believe in..........
Barack Obama is a certifiable sociopath, so when he lies he probably does believe his own lie and cannot fathom why someone would question him.
Reality is slowly kicking in to 0bama . VERY VERY slowly
re: Schmidt Storm
Anyone know the best way to make certain the McCain people are aware of this one?
This is an extremely vulnerable point for Obambi and he should be hit very hard on it. Attack ads/videos can make mincemeat of him from slip-sliding away (flip-flopping away) from his previous absolute commitment to withdraw all combat brigades within 16 months. Hit upon him saying the word “reduce” over and over again. No one disagrees with that now, he’s just slid over to the mainstream. What had distinguished Obambi’s candidacy with the Moonbats has his repeated absolute commitment to withdraw all combat troops on, yes, a fixed timetable no matter what.
His campaign will say “it’s just one word” etc. but he must be forced to either re-affirm a blind rigid commitment to withdraw all troops no matter what, or else be forced into explaining his sudden flip-flop toward a more “moderate” position that is the one supported by probably 70% of the American public.
It’s flip-flop time on the Obambi donkey cart....
Video: Obama shamelessly contradicts himself about troops dying in vain
While factcheck.org does on occasion get it right, it is wise to remember that they are part of the Annenberg Foundation that funded Ayers and Obama in the Annenberg Challenge and are very left wing. Read the bios all liberals and hardly non-partisan as they say. Presumably they are one of only 2 organization to have seen Obama’s COLB.
It’s not that I trust FactCheck.org — I cited their statement b/c when even such a liberal-left group is calling out Obama on a distortion or flip-flop then it really is undeniable.
I had noticed the change in Obama policy myself but wanted to see if anyone on the left was admitting to it.....
Sorry but some people really believe they are non-partisan. I didn’t want to insult you.
Obama the man who would end the war and all but shut down the military will now invade Pakistan?? He changes policies more than some people change underwear doesn’t he?
