And the winner is... Mac by a bracelet

McCain outshines Obama in battle of the bracelets

By Howie Carr Saturday, September 27, 2008 - Round 1 to McCain, on points.

Barack Obama got off to a good start when Jim Lehrer spent a half-hour on economic issues, where McCain is hobbled by the carcass of George W. Bush.

But when the debate got to the foreign policy issues that it was supposed to be about, the bracelet exchange summed it all up.

McCain mentions that he’s wearing a bracelet he got from the mother of a soldier slain in New Hampshire.

To which Obama responds: “I have a bracelet, too.”

For the last hour, McCain bested Obama at almost every turn. Even at the start, McCain mentioned Ted Kennedy’s seizure first, and later he beat him to the punch on global warming while simultaneously dropping Hillary Clinton’s name first. McCain even needled Obama on his presidential seal.

*L* Great headline.

I don’t get how people can think Obama won? especially after the bracelet fiasco.

All Obama has is GWB. McCain was never that close to GWB but the MSM allows Obama to use it all the time. Whenever he got into trouble last night he invoked GWB. That's all he has.

Men don’t wear bracelets...

They wear WRIST BANDS.

or gauntlets.

Gauntlets... that’s still a little... french...

We’ll stick with WRIST BANDS.

same here

I watched it last night
obama was rude, arrogant looking, he never gave any plans out to how he was going to pay for all these programmes.
he looked like he had read a book on policy but never really understood it

for anyone to say obama won that debate has their head where the sun doesn’t shine, of course that is many liberals

when you look at the debate again you notice that obama was really clueless, the media need to watch it and listen to his answers and then they’ll see obama never gave anything of substance at all in that debate

he obama looked rattled and annoyed because the earmarks was brought up
obama is trying to say look at spending and yet he is the man who keeps spending

time for the media to do their job

After her circular answers to some of the interviews of late, I really hope she is practicing a lot for the debate.

Even an “okay” debate would be good enough.

But, we can’t have her repeating things she just said like she did with Couric!

"I don’t get how people can think Obama won? especially after the bracelet fiasco. "

Most of the zerObama supporters, and probably many of the purported "undecideds" are not political junkies, but are the headline readers and sound bite types. Their idea of being "well informed" is reading the captions under the photos in the newspaper.

By the propagandists on the left (MSM) regurgitating "Obama won, Obama won" over and over again, the useful idiots in our society - who, like lemmings never go over a cliff alone - will flock over to the zerObama side. Their insecure and group-think personalities will always draw them to the perceived winner.

Then there is the "word of mount" perveyance from those headline readers telling their most idiot friends to don't read anything, that "obama won". Being the same group-first types, they too will be programmed to vote for obama.

This country needs to establish a "voting license".

Obama was rude and petulant...reminded me of Algore. At one point OBAMA told the HOST it was time to move on.

I usually notice the things that will stick out to people, but according to the MSM Obama did nothing wrong. Obama seemed like he was out of sorts all throughout the debate. Then at the end he brought up his dad and his name...I thought he must really have thought he was doing badly to play that card again.

I LOVED McCains rapid response ad - though Bob Beckel said it was “rude” of McCain to not mention the times he and Obama agreed or point out when Obama was right - WWAAAA.

I do so hope the “average” VOTER (not person since most people don’t vote) paid as much attention as you and I.

McCain and Bush are much closer than anyone realizes. The strategy by both [McCain and the President] was for McCain to distance himself from the President.

I personally liked when McCain said when I looked into his eyes I saw KGB. Since it was the Soviet Union [KBG] running the HH in Nam...he'd know.

I think McCain needs to develop a few ads that show a peaceful & hopeful Irag today, without running away from the fact that is has been a difficult & costly path, and then show folks with Obama’s own words that Saddam & his sons would still be raping & pillaging Iraq today had Obama been C-n-C the last 8 years.

And then clip away to how Obama wants to cuddle up to Iran, and how he failed to act when Georgia was invaded.

I don’t believe there are truly any undecideds out there - Last night on Foxnews, a lady called in from a Synagogue in Florida where she said she watched with undecideds and not one person made up their minds after the debate. I think the undecided voter at this point is either a complete and absolute idiot or someone who likes being chased.

The MSM is a bunch of boobs. I’m so thankful for FR.

The only scientific poll I have seen so far has been from CNN, and they said Obama won, but not by much, only about 10 points.

The article pointed out Kerry won the debates according to the same poll multiple times. Look where it got him.

I do think a lot agree with us regarding the issue regarding any polls about who “won.”

They are always somewhat questionable. Fox’s “text” poll showed a big win for McCain, but that wasn’t scientific of course. I don’t know if they had a real poll or not.

Definitely not time to panic, and the good news is I think either the next one or the last one is a town hall format.

McCain really shines in that. I think that may be in the middle, as Obama would not want to leave that in voter’s minds last. McCain would definitely win then.

Edit....just checked and the second debate is the town hall, so no doubt Obama succeeded in making sure that was not the final debate.

IMHO, the most damaging part of the bracelet fiasco was when Obama had to read the soldier's name from it. That aspect isn't even mentioned in the article.

The bracelet ploy—I’ve got one too— shows that Obama’s people thought they’d get away with trumping a well-known McCain story.

But Obama fumbled it and lost any credibility with the ploy.

I doubt it will be pursued enough in the media to move any votes, however.

It won't help. No matter how good she is, the MSM is not going to admit that she has even a smidgen of competence. They are so mad at her, they will never allow her a kind word again. It wasn't enough when she told them she wasn't going to Washington to seek their good opinion. She clinched it when the press was kept out of her meetings with the foreign dignitaries earlier this week. As far as the MSM is concerned, Sarah Palin is toast. Burned toast.

“I don’t get how people can think Obama won? especially after the bracelet fiasco.”

Senator John Edwards was correct: there really are two Americas.

One America respects God, family, country, and honor. These people consider it bizarre to vote for a man who has publicly disrespected his own grandmother, and has a notorious terrorist as his best friend.

The other America thinks all that is old fashioned and square. You live for the moment and get what you can. If you don’t get caught, or beat the rap, you are still a winner. These people don’t honor fallen soldiers, and could care less about bracelets.

We’ll find out on November 4th which of the two Americas is in charge.

The bracelet fiasco was a miss for Obama for two reasons. First, he was way too forceful when saying “I have a bracelet too!” and second (and I agree with you - most importantly) he couldn’t even remember the name of the person who the bracelet was supposed to represent.
