Both Times Obama Has Been Elected (IL State & U.S. Senator) He Ran UNOPPOSED

All of the information below is from an editorial post on the website http://discoverthenetworks.org _________________________________________________________

A notable attendee at the [Bll]Ayers/Dohrn-hosted political gatherings [in Chicago in the early to mid-1990s] was Democratic state senator Alice J. Palmer (of Illinois' 13th District), who soon developed a friendly relationship with Obama. Prior to her stint in politics, Palmer had worked for the Black Press Institute and was editor of the Black Press Review. During the Cold War, she supported the Soviet Union and spoke against the United States. In the 1980s she served as an executive board member of the U.S. Peace Council, which the FBI identified as a Communist front group (and which was an affiliate of the World Peace Council, an international Soviet front). Palmer participated in the World Peace Council's Prague assembly in 1983 -- just as the USSR was launching its "nuclear freeze" movement, a scheme that would have frozen Soviet nuclear and military superiority in place.

State senator Palmer was instrumental in Obama's entry into politics. In 1995 Palmer decided to pursue an opportunity to run for a higher office when Mel Reynolds, the congressman from Illinois' 2nd District, resigned from the House of Representatives amid a sexual scandal involving him and an underage campaign volunteer. As Palmer prepared to leave the state senate, she hand-picked Obama as the person she most wanted to fill her newly vacated senate seat. Toward that end, she introduced Obama to party elders and donors as her preferred successor, and helped him gather the signatures required for getting his name placed on the ballot.

But in November 1995, Jesse Jackson, Jr. defeated Palmer in a special election for Reynolds' empty congressional seat. At that point, Palmer filed to retain the Democratic nomination for the state senate seat she had encouraged Obama to pursue; that seat would be up for grabs in the November 1996 elections. She asked Obama to politely withdraw from the race and offered to help him find an alternative position elsewhere.

But Obama refused to withdraw, so Palmer resolved to run against him (and two other opponents who also had declared their candidacy) in the 1996 Democratic primary. To get her name placed on the ballot, Palmer hastily gathered the minimum number of signatures required. Obama promptly challenged the legitimacy of those signatures and charged Palmer with fraud. A subsequent investigation found that a number of the names on Palmer's petition were invalid, thus she was knocked off the ballot. (Names could be eliminated from a candidate's petition for a variety of reasons. For example, if a name was printed rather than written in cursive script, it was considered invalid. Or if the person collecting the signatures was not registered to perform that task, any signatures that he or she had collected likewise were nullified.)

Obama also successfully challenged the signatures gathered by his other two opponents, and both of them were disqualified as well. Consequently, Obama ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and won by default.

In 2004 Obama ran for one of Illinois' two seats in the U.S. Senate. The Chicago Tribune endorsed Obama's campaign. More importantly, the Tribune persuaded a Democrat-appointed judge in California to open the sealed divorce records of Obama's Republican opponent to the media. The resulting sex scandal, based on allegations in the divorce records by a Hollywood actress eager to prevent her ex-husband from getting custody of their children, prompted the Republican to resign from the race.

Okay, granted it was Candidate-for-life Alan Keyes, but this headline and article are factually incorrect. Obama had an opponent in the Senate race.

Obama defeated Alan Keyes in 2004.

Granted, he might as well have been unopposed...

I have noticed a “sea change” in the media toward John McCain in the past day and a half. Also, the fact that McCain in the Presidential debate so painstakingly stressed that Obama’s voting record qualifies him as the most liberal senator in the U.S. Senate IS making some of the commentators pay better attention.

Before he faced Jack Ryan, Obama’s minions also derailed the opposition in the primaries.

Blair Hull will not be remembered by many; if anything, he will be a footnote in history. In 2004, Hull decided to seek the Democratic nomination for Illinois’s open Senate seat, vacated by Peter Fitzgerald. Hull, who funded himself with $28 million, had a significant lead early on. Then allegations surfaced that he had threatened to kill his wife during an argument, and that he was arrested for battery, although charges were never filed. Nevertheless, the damage to Hull’s campaign was done.

The chief beneficiary of Hull’s meltdown was a little-known state senator from Hyde Park. His name, of course, is Barack Obama.

Chicago thug style politics at work....and one of their primary stars is Obama.

Although Keyes got in as his opponent, it was essentially too late in the race to do any good. For all intents and purposes he ran unopposed because everyone was focused on Ryan.

Thanks for the correction. Obama was “virtually” unopposed in his bid for his current U.S. Senate seat.

I thought both Ryan and Hull were derailed by previously sealed divorce records suddenly becoming unsealed.

That would be correct. It worked so well for his defeat of Hull, how pulled out of the race altogether, why not go double down and do the same to Ryan.

In his race for the U.S. Senate, not a single negative ad was run against him either during the seven-way Democratic primary or in the general election, in good part because Republican Jack Ryan unexpectedly dropped out of the race after a court unsealed embarrassing divorce documents that were highly publicized by the media. As a result, Obama faced weak Republican candidate Alan Keyes, who was quickly came under attack from the media and was unable to act offensively in the campaign.

The ONLY reason Obama won his senate seat is because of the sleazy revlelations from the divorce records of Jack (Mr. Jeri) Ryan and his subsequent withdrawl. This left the R party in shambles and they brought in carpet bagger Alan Keyes who basically made a fool of himself.

Obama then went to the 2004 DNC and we know what happened from there.

He owes a lot of shady people for getting the chance to run for the Senate, but he owes Jack Ryan for actually winning.

“I have noticed a “sea change” in the media toward John McCain in the past day and a half.”

Maybe some actual people in the media can’t afford the $3000/person surcharge for the $700 billion bailout + the $2500/person surcharge of the $670 billion continuing resolution + the hike in taxes as a result of the lapse when the Bush tax cuts expire ($1000/person?) + $?????/person of Obama’s health—globalpoverty—socialprograms—educationcamps-education—reparations—fillintheblank

To be fair, while there was harmful info in those records, neither Jack nor Jeri Ryan wanted them released. Partly because they felt the information would be harmful to their son.

Obama's backers pushed the issue with reporters and eventually a judge ruled that the records had to be released.

RYAN DROPS OUT OF RACE [U.S. Senate Seat from IL]

Ryan Statement:

Thirteen months ago, I announced my determination to seek the Republican nomination for the United States Senate. I entered this race because I love my country and my home state of Illinois - and because I believe that one man, living for purposes larger than himself, can make a difference.

The media has gotten out of control. The fact that the Chicago Tribune sues for access to sealed custody documents and then takes unto itself the right to publish details of a custody dispute - over the objections of two parents who agree that the re-airing of their arguments will hurt their ability to co-parent their child and will hurt their child - is truly outrageous.

The debate between competing visions and philosophies is a vital one - one the voters of Illinois absolutely deserve. Elections, after all, are about choices. But it’s clear to me that a vigorous debate on the issues most likely could not take place if I remain in the race.

What would take place, rather, is a brutal, scorched-earth campaign - the kind of campaign that has turned off so many voters, the kind of politics I refuse to play.

Accordingly, I am today withdrawing from the race.

To the 234,000 Republican voters who cast a ballot for me in March, to the thousands of supporters and volunteers who have invested in our campaign the two most precious resources they have - their time and their money - I say thank you. I will never be able to properly express the depth of my gratitude for the trust you placed in me.

One wonders how events would have proceeded if Jack Ryan had been able to satisfy his kinks by privately having Jeri don the catsuit and firmly inform him that resistance was futile.

The Illinois Republican party is at fault for Obama being where he is today. If they had supported and encouraged Peter Fitzgerald, there would be no Barak Hussein on the national political scene today.

He did not run for th U.S. Senate unopposed. After teh media got Jack Ryan out of the race (apparently for having had an active sex life with his wife), the Illinois GOP recruited Alan Keyes. The two debated several times. (In fact, Dr. Keyes is the only person to vhe debated both Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain.)

Do you ever wonder if Hitlery has thought about the idea that maybe she should hve gone home to Chicago to run for the Senate, not to New York? Had she done so, there might also not be a Barack Hussein Obama ("Osama Obama" in Teddy Kennedy's rendering) and The Empress would be the Dimmycrap nominee for President today, not Dumbo.

Yeah, Hitlery did REALLY miss the boat. You’re right, she should have run for her U.S. Senate seat from Illinois.

(John F. Kennedy, Jr. should have been elected the democrat Senator from NY, not Hitlery.)

True, but as someone noted in this thread, Jack Ryan dropped out of the race on June 25, 2004 and Alan Keyes was slated as Obama's opponent on August 8, 2004 (the IL GOP stumbled around looking for a replacement for weeks). So for over a month, Obama got to run unopposed for the U.S. Senate ... free to travel around raising money and making speeches without any opponent to refute him.

Actually, the person who was considered the frontrunner for the Democrats in the New York Senate race until Hitlery stepped in was Rep. Nita Lowey.
