Are the House Republicans on board?

If so, we need to get on the phones immediately and get them to stop this thing.

I don’t anticipate it will be interesting. I anticipate a party line vote passing Paulson’s bailout. Republicans against.

Which version? Who will support it? Are they doing this after McCain left so the MSM can keep saying he had less than nothing to do with it.

Meanwhile, they are now saying Obama “chaired” the WH meetimg and spoke for the democrats, yet Obama gets no blame for the meeting’s failure?

If this ACORN is really getting a chunk of our money under the guise of this “crisis”, there’s got to be a citizen’s march on Washington.

What was their source?

Sounds like another Democrat trick with McCain going out of town to the debates.

They better not give them any money.

No it's not necessary. If fact, it will make the problem worse.

The American public doesn't understand the 'problem'.

He didn’t waste anyone’s time. He went up there and empowered the Republicans to present a bill that 70% of Americans approve — a private-sector bailout. He can now crow that the Dems refused a nonpartisan debate and pushed through a Wall Street rich-guy bailout, compliments of the US taxpayer. It’s a winner either way. They’re passing that BS bailout. $700 billion going on $5 trillion.

I’ve been away this a.m. and trying to piece things together. So what happened - if the bill hasn’t yet been approved, why is McCain leaving town and going to the debate?

I’m reading news releases but have apparently missed something.

The AP version reads like an Obama press release!

Well, the initial bill had no pork in it, the second bill had Democrat pork in it, but no GOP pork.

I’m sure the final bill will appease all involved (except the actual people paying for it).

This is true, but I think most Americans are too incurious to find out who caused this mess, or that Dems want to fork over 20% of the money to ACORN, etc. They are against the deal in principle, which is fine, but they need to lay the blame for this mess right where it belongs...squarely at the feet of the Democrats.

The Democrats don’t need Republican votes to pass a bill. If a Republican votes for it, it’s probably an act of self-preservation.

If that’s the case McCain just wasted everyone’s time.M

Maybe you forgot, McCain just did up and go. He was asked by Paulson to come to DC and work with the Republicans. Waste everyone's time, ask the RATS and Obama that screwed it all up. The President, out of cooperation, asked Obama to come also. The RATS set this whole thing up and did not consult the Republicans on the bill. The RATS set it up so any profit we might make will be used for their pet earmarks instead of relief of the deficit or back to the American people. We are almost under communist rule.

Then they'll get all the blame for it. Americans are against this bailout by huge numbers. I think they want to include Rs so they can blame them later.

“The AP version reads like an Obama press release!”

It’s just incredible, reading all the MSM stories today, McCain’s mere presence stops all progress, democrats are faultless, this enormous deal must be passed immediately, Obama is a superstar, McCain a zero. It’s relentless.

Meanwhile, the American people don’t want this deal and $700 billion ain’t peanuts.

The House conservatives better not cave ...

Think about it for a minute. Why in the hell would the House GOP cave on this? They are in the catbird seat! The 'rats won't pass anything without majority GOP support because they don't want to be the ones passing out 700 billion taxpayer dollars when 80% of the American public is loudly opposed.

If there's a deal at midnight it will be based on the House GOP plan!!!

Okay, here is what happened.

They have both sides a set of principles from which to move forward in negotiation.

That is why McCain said he decided to go to the debate, after which he will return back to Washington.

There is no done deal here on any bill, just a way to move forward here.

This does not mean the Dem bill will be approved.

Wait and see what transpires this afternoon.

It’s because there are many financial institution failures to be made known Saturday/Sunday (can’t keep them secret any longer), and they want to have some plan announced before those announcements.

Alternatively, some financial institutions are “hanging on” this week, knowing they can hide their issues until this weekend; hoping the Fed will buy up their bad debt and keep them from failing from 1) bad business decisions and 2) Congress pressing them for years to loan to anyone who needs it.

This is such BS, any markets stupid enough to fall on Monday will rise again Tuesday, Wedmesday or Thursday when a deal is completed. Paulson and Bernanke are fanning this crisis into a 24 hour emergency because they can’t let their plan go down in defeat.

Most of my frustrations stems from the fact that the press is going to win this election for Obama.

Everything will be spun to look good for him and the 20% of the country that can’t decide for themselves will swallow it whole.

DEAR AMERICAN:

I NEED TO ASK YOU TO SUPPORT AN URGENT SECRET BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP WITH
A TRANSFER OF FUNDS OF GREAT MAGNITUDE.

I AM MINISTRY OF THE TREASURY OF THE REPUBLIC OF AMERICA. MY COUNTRY HAS
HAD CRISIS THAT HAS CAUSED THE NEED FOR LARGE TRANSFER OF FUNDS OF 800
BILLION DOLLARS US. IF YOU WOULD ASSIST ME IN THIS TRANSFER, IT WOULD BE
MOST PROFITABLE TO YOU.

I AM WORKING WITH MR. PHIL GRAHAM, LOBBYIST FOR UBS, WHO WILL BE MY
REPLACEMENT AS MINISTRY OF THE TREASURY IN JANUARY. AS A SENATOR, YOU
MAY KNOW HIM AS THE LEADER OF THE AMERICAN BANKING DEREGULATION MOVEMENT
IN THE 1990S. THIS TRANSACTIN IS 100% SAFE.

THIS IS A MATTER OF GREAT URGENCY. WE NEED A BLANK CHECK. WE NEED THE
FUNDS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. WE CANNOT DIRECTLY TRANSFER THESE FUNDS IN
THE NAMES OF OUR CLOSE FRIENDS BECAUSE WE ARE CONSTANTLY UNDER SURVEILLANCE. MY FAMILY LAWYER ADVISED ME THAT I SHOULD LOOK FOR A RELIABLE AND TRUSTWORTHY PERSON WHO WILL ACT AS A NEXT OF KIN SO THE FUNDS CAN BE TRANSFERRED.

PLEASE REPLY WITH ALL OF YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, IRA AND COLLEGE FUND ACCOUNT
NUMBERS AND THOSE OF YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN TO WALLSTREETBAILOUT@TREASURY.GOV

SO THAT WE MAY TRANSFER YOUR COMMISSION FOR THIS TRANSACTION. AFTER I RECEIVE THAT INFORMATION, I WILL RESPOND WITH DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT SAFEGUARDS THAT WILL BE USED TO PROTECT THE FUNDS.

YOURS FAITHFULLY,

MINISTER OF TREASURY PAULSON

How so? The poster you responded to was opining that the bailout would pass on party lines and not with Republican support.

Even if the poster is correct which we won’t know until the details are released, why do you think the RATS have been clamoring for Republican cover? If it’s such a marvelous bill in the first place wouldn’t they publically support it without desiring republican support as well?

The answer of course, is no. They know the Paulson bill is very unpopular. McCain not only demonstrated leadership in getting to DC to hammer out what will hopefully be more acceptable (although not pain-free) bill and now returns to the campaign schedule.

Nobody’s time was wasted and despite the media’s attempt to say otherwise, McCain acted like a leader. Although I haven’t agreed with McCain on many things through the years, I give him credit for having a pair of brass ones on suspending his campaign and getting to DC.

And now, we all wait for the details.
