Bush Invites Obama to DC to Work on Bailout Bill; Obama Accepts
ABC Blog ^ | 9/24/08 | Jake Tapper

Posted on 09/24/2008 5:23:59 PM PDT by hole_n_one

ABC News has learned that President Bush called Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., this evening and invited him to participate in a meeting about the Wall Street bailout bill tomorrow afternoon in Washington, DC, with other congressional leaders, including Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Obama accepted the president's invitation, a source tells ABC News.

The invitation comes at an interesting time. The President has not been in the middle of negotiations with Congress, leaving that task to his Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.

McCain earlier today announced he was suspending his campaign -- and his participation in the first presidential debate Friday night -- in order to return to the Capitol to work on the flailing bill. McCain's move has been denounced by Democrats and political observers as a political gimmick, though the McCain campaign insists the senator is trying to put politics aside to solve the stalled legislation.

President Bush's move could be seen as an attempt to aid McCain's gambit by creating a presidential-level meeting where the Arizona Republican is present.

Obama still intends to attend the debate Friday evening.

Under these circumstances it is a brilliant move though John McCain probably didn’t plan it that way, he just puts COUNTRY FIRST.

“debate on a Friday?”

Au contrare, mon frere. This is the only debate scheduled for Friday. The next one is on a Thursday, and the next one is either Tuesday or Wednesday. They are all one week after the other, so to reschedule this Fridays for next week would HAVE to happen either Monday or Tuesday, as the next scheduled event is THURSDAY.

OMG, here we go again!! Has W learned NOTHING from being stabbed in the back by Dems??

Teddy Chappaquiddick gave us a piece of crap No Child Left Behind (NCLB) at Bush’s invitation and, as soon as the bill was signed, the Swimmer promptly went out and trashed W.

And, there have been others (although I have forgotten the others who stabbed W in the back.

Now, W wants to get the emptiest of empty suits EVER to help with the economy. The Obamessiah can’t make change for a fiver without a calculator and a 5th grader to help him figure it out . . . . . . what does he POSSIBLY have to offer in THIS situation!!??

I have more experience than the Obamessiah, why didn’t W ask me?? I even live in Texas!!

I agree with you, I do not think this move is brilliant! MSM will spin this to BO's advantage!

FOLKS! BUSH AND MCCAIN HAVE PUNKED BAMBI SO BIG TIME! Bambi is a stuttering jackass when speaking without his teleprompter. They will put him in positions to have to speak with a room full of press and he will make a fool out of himself.

DID'NT ANYONE SEE THE EMPTY SUIT'S PRESSER A COUPLE OF DAYS AGO?

exactly. Bush forced Obama to fulfill his senate duties. Like a boss telling the worker to shape up, or get suspended

I hope Bush demands that the Democrats who caused this mess pay reparations.

Maybe Obama can take up the cause of reparations.

I actually think Bush might have screwed up McCain’s plan. The way Bush has seemingly lost his political bearings the last 4 years, I don’t think this is some sort of concerted effort. Looks more like a WTH are you doing moment. But who knows.

YES, the magic one has aligned himself with Bush now just by accepting the invitation. Brilliant move by Bush IMO.

Bambi looks like a little child, twisting around, wasting time, fumbling excuses, and finally following big brother (McCain) to the dinner table. This is all just too funny for words. Too bad the subject at hand, the future of the economy, is such a serious topic!

Barry looks like an even larger moron now, he was saying “they can call me” just a couple of hours ago, and now GWB of all people summons him to DC to be involved to?

They should seat Obama at the kiddie table...he could play with Barney...

I hope President Bush can understand Obamics, or can acquire an Obamics speaker on such short notice.

For the Obamics impaired, here are a few examples.

“uh,um,uh,ah” = “Where’s the teleprompter, Axelrod?”

“I’m going to consult my brain trust.” = “I got no freakin’ idea.”

“Hope and Change” = “Where da white women at?”

A debate of one?

If Obama debated himself, he would lose.

Wrong.

McCain looks presidential, clairvoyant and accomplished; Obama is rattled, thrown off course and has to vote for the bipartisan rescue, thereby innoculating McCain on this issue.

Wake up. This is coordinated Bush-McCain strategy working to astounding perfection.

Bush does NOT want BO elected president.

Yes I totally agree. McCain will look good and Bambi will look novice and will have to take a stand, if he votes present he will look like a fool.
