Hartford, Conn. (AP) -- Connecticut Democrats are considering whether to ask Sen. Joe Lieberman to leave the party for speaking at the Republicans' convention and backing GOP presidential nominee John McCain.

The party scheduled a debate Wednesday night on a resolution that would censure Lieberman and ask the veteran politician to resign from the Democratic Party.

Lieberman was re-elected to the Senate as an independent after losing the Democratic primary in 2006 to businessman Ned Lamont, but while he calls himself an "independent Democrat" in the Senate he remains a registered Democrat and has said he has no plans to change his affiliation. The four-term senator nearly became vice president in 2000 as Al Gore's running mate.

They’d better be careful. They just might need Joe Lieberman.

Since when does a censure mean anything?

If I got censured by a bunch of morons, I’d make a button that said “Censured By Morons” and wear it.

So what the heck?? Does this mean that you must vote for the Party’s candidate or you don’t get to be in the Party? Sounds like something Saddam Hussein used to do!

Maybe next they will try a public hanging. These libs and Dems are getting scary in their fascist and extremist unethical dealings overall. I think of all the hacking, the intolerance . . . it is getting worse, not staying the same and certainly not better.

We all noticed how quickly their vitriol hatred for Bush immediately switched to the new person to feast upon. This evil hatred is bigger then these people and it is getting worse. Maybe I am playing it up a bit and am over-imagining things, but this is getting a bit concerning. Especially now that the colleges, universities, schools, and MSM have as much power over the young minds in this country. Makes me feel a bit grateful I am middle age and not just starting out in this country. /rant. I am not in a positive mood today with all the sickness these libs are spreading around.

Oh...real nice example of being "liberal" and allowing everyone their right to FREE SPEECH.

I say, go ahead you Democrats. Lieberman beat you once at your sly games. This is exactly what the country needs to see. You want to censure someone for expressing their own thoughts! That'll win you votes! Come on, just try it. And, please, do so soon. Obama needs all the help he can get from the whiners and finger-pointers. He certainly can't win on his own merit.

He is not a Dim. He is an independent. As an independent, they have no standing to criticize who he supports for president or what convention he speaks at.

They could take away his committee chairmanship if they get a majority of more than one. That of course is why he should have caucused with the GOP during this current Congress.

What Lieberman should do is on October 15th change his party affiliation to Republican and force Reid and his band of Rats to go into the Minority.

Then Bush calls for an investigation of every RAT who got money from Fannie and Freddy.

>> I thought he was an Independent who caucuses with the dems. <<

I thought so too. His political party is the Connecticut for Lieberman Party, according to the last election results that sent him back to the U.S. Senate. How can he "leave" the Democrat Party when wasn't elected under their party label in the first place and and is officially designated an "independent" in the Senate organization?

If the Dems are suggesting he "leave" the Democrat caucus and vote for the Republicans (but not join the Republican Party as a member), then I'm all for it. Let's pressure a member of U.S. Senator to stop voting for the Dems and instead vote for Mitch McConnell to be Majority Leader. That would produce a 50-50 tie in the Senate, which Dick Cheney could cast a tie-breaking vote and give the Republicans control of the entire U.S. Senate.

Great idea, Conn. Dems! Force Lieberman to hand control of the Senate over to the GOP! Can we make him do this tomorrow?

The full extent of their genius won't be known until after the Demwits nationally have their asses handed to them by the voters in November.

Re “I though he’d already been excommunicated.”

Lucky it was “executed”. The Democrats in Connecticut, led by Ned the Red Lamont, would do that if they could. A beautiful state spoiled by the marxists and their liberal dupes.

nearly every so-called major peace group in Conn. is run by a member of the Communist Party - Al Marder - Con. Peace Council. WILPF, the late Irv Stolberg (USPC), etc.

Nice going, morons. In the middle of a financial crisis, Dems (in the state that is home to some of the largest insurance firms in the U.S.) choose to take action on bull#$%t instead of tackling real issues.

So the Dims can’t expel somebody from the party, just pressure him to leave? I guess that explains why Lyndon LaRouche and the Rev. Louis Farrakhan are still Democrats.

Or, it could mean, the Demwits *welcome* their membership. After all, as Humphrey said, a political party should *stand* for something, and that party will stand for pretty much anything.
