The Democrats' 'Kill Drill' Bill (Remember this when you vote November 4th)

Earlier this month, Rasmussen Reports found that 69% of voters support offshore oil drilling. That's no wonder, with fuel prices still painfully high and widespread concerns that America is becoming dangerously dependent on oil-rich foreign nations with ties to Islamic terrorists in the Middle East and hostile regimes like that of leftist Hugo Chavez in Venezuela.

The do-nothing Democratic Congress may not have passed an appropriations bill all year long, but it's now in a position in which inaction would actually serve the public good.

At the end of this month, the quarter-century-long ban on oil and gas leasing on most of the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) expires. With 97% of our offshore lands sitting unleased, the United States is in the dubious position of being the only industrialized country in the world that restricts access to so much of its offshore resources.

Considering public outrage over high prices at the pump, you'd think the people's representatives would be eager to carry out the public will and let the outdated ban expire — especially since in the 21st century the exploration and extraction of oil is no longer the dirty, ecologically risky business it once was.

I read tonight that the Dems were going to let the off shore drilling ban expire on Sept 30. It said they had given in to the White House’s threatened veto.

Often the dominant political party advocates deceptive election year legislation to garner broad public support, while faithfully maintaining core constituency ideology in legislative details. The Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protections Act, passed as H.R. 6899 along party lines by the House, contains the worst stereotypes imaginable for such a scheme.

There exists broad public support for developing our own energy resources in known offshore regions, in Anwar, and in oil shale deposits. Core Democrat constituencies are unmoved by arguments such actions can bring down the price of gasoline, and bring significant independence from the dictatorial states that control most oil resources.

The Democrat legislation touts all-embracing resolution of our energy crisis by this title. However, in 108 sections and 65 pages for my copy, the legislation closes over 90% of offshore resources to development, layers additional onerous regulation upon energy exploration and development, empowers failed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to make additional mortgage loans, provides additional grants for biofuel and mass transit, imposes a carbon footprint audit on our tax code, and imposes additional federal building code regulations. This selection of provisions and all others add not one drop of oil, but deepen the existing crisis.

The Democrat Representatives, all of who face re-election, can now maintain they have rescued our country, safe in the assurance their media supporters will underwrite their deception. This deceitful legislation now moves to the Senate, where another opportunity exists to reveal the extent of the fraud.

Pelosi has already decided that this is going to be a political suicide pact so she isn’t going to sneak it into the CR.

So, basically, we won.

But Pelosi, et al, believe they are going to get a new global warming zealot in the WH after November and this will all get fixed again. She is right about the zealot part but I don’t think she is going to be right about the ‘being fixed part’. I don’t think McCain will be able to be anti-drilling with Palin on the ticket and Palin can always threaten to quit.

on the upside - the congressional ban must be renewed yearly - its buried in the budget for the department of the interior which expires september 30th

hope our side stands firm and does not renew the ban (or even the budget if necessary)

Well McCain isn’t exactly anti drilling. He supports drilling in the Outer continental shelf and Sarah said when asked by Sean Hannity that she is working on him to agree on drilling on ANWR

The Democrat "No Domestic Energy Policy!"

All of that puts the U.S. in a position that war for oil or
complete economic collapse will be our only choices.
You can't frustrate every source of domestic energy
without consequences. Our enemies will blackmail us
to the extent that we are vulnerable to blackmail.

Meanwhile they want to spend $700 billion to bail out crooks and deadbeats.

In addition to the Presidential election, the congressional and senatorial elections promise to be extremely popcorn worthy.

With the phone calls to congresscritters running about 10,000 to 1 against a bailout, and the pressure for them to pruduce one before they recess Thursday eve, they are so screwed no matter what they do.

Notice also that we are not hearing a lot the usual "It's the Republican's fault" this time.

Outstanding among those who are blameworthy is Barney (my mouth didn't get this way from eatin' bananas) Frank, who pronounced that the reason Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac exist was so people who couldn't afford to buy a home could have one anyway.

He then caused mandates to be put into effect that would pressure and penalize banks that didn't make bad loans.

True. Look it up.
