Roger Ebert can't stand Sarah Palin

It's no secret that everyone is weighing in on politics these days, from David Letterman to Barbara Walters and the esteemed ladies of "The View," who, as the New York Times pointed out today, have had Barack Obama, John McCain and even Bill Clinton on their couch, with McCain clearly getting the toughest grilling. But should film critics be weighing in on the presidential race as well? It's no secret that America's leading film critic, the Chicago Sun-Times' Roger Ebert, has been on quite a roll lately, writing a series of barbed commentaries about GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.
Palin Ebert leaped into the fray with an essay about Palin where he dubbed her the ''American Idol" candidate. Ebert said, in part: "There's a reason 'American Idol' gets such high ratings. People identify with the candidates. They think, 'Hey, that could be me up there on the show!' " Roger added that he didn't want a candidate who simply appointed people to study global warming long after the scientific consensus was in. Nor did he want someone, as he put it, who "sneers when referring to people who go to the Ivy League," noting that as a teenager, he dreamed of going to Harvard, but his dad, an electrician, didn't have the money to send him.
Ebert has also weighed in on Palin's interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson, which he said reminded him of being asked questions by a teacher when he didn't have the foggiest idea what to answer. He's now posted a clever questionnaire about creationism, which Palin believes should be taught alongside evolution in schools.

So Ebert is an expert on global warming too?
Just because there is “consensus” doesn’t mean there is good science. Science is not a popularity contest.
I find it odd that Mr. Ebert approves of “science by consensus” but not politics by consensus.

And I can't stand Roger Ebert.
A supporter of the Democratic Party, Ebert publicly urged liberal filmmaker Michael Moore to give a politically-charged acceptance speech at the Academy Awards: "I'd like to see Michael Moore get up there and let 'em have it with both barrels and really let loose and give them a real rabble-rousing speech."

Ebert is (for the moment) a survivor of thyroid and salivary-gland cancer.
Gene isn't doing any voting at all, at least not on this plane: he had surgery for a a malignant brain tumor back in 1999, and the ensuing complications killed him. And his politics were slightly to the right of Ebert's, though that's not saying much.

After 9/11, Sir Paul was with us - remember his “Freedom” song? And now, this...
The man is more liberal on most issues than most of us would like, but when push comes to shove in the overall fight for freedom - he is on the right side.

Actually he does. He has been fighting thyroid cancer for years. That’s actually a decent and old picture. He has had thyroid cancer and has had part of his jawbone removed. Not sure if he’s had reconstructive surgery but the last time I saw him it was not pretty.
