Palin, in a bubble, meets her first world leaders
Ass. Press ^ | SARA KUGLER

Posted on 09/23/2008 3:39:20 PM PDT by WilliamReading

NEW YORK - Sarah Palin met her first world leaders Tuesday. ADVERTISEMENT

It was a tightly controlled crash course on foreign policy for the Republican vice presidential candidate, the mayor-turned-governor who has been outside North America just once.

Palin sat down with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Colombian President Alvaro Uribe. The conversations were private, the pictures public, meant to build her resume for voters concerned about her lack of experience in world affairs.

"I found her quite a capable woman," Karzai said later. "She asked the right questions on Afghanistan."

The self-described "hockey mom" also asked former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger for insights on Georgia, Russia, China and Iran, and she'll see more leaders Wednesday on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings.

It was shuttle diplomacy, New York-style. At several points, Palin's motorcade got stuck in traffic and New Yorkers, unimpressed with the flashing lights, sirens and police officers in her group, simply walked between the vehicles to get across the street. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, three hours behind Palin in seeing Karzai, found herself overshadowed for a day as she made her own rounds.

John McCain's presidential campaign has shielded the first-term Alaska governor for weeks from spontaneous questions from voters and reporters, and went to striking lengths Tuesday to maintain that distance as Palin made her diplomatic debut.

The GOP campaign, applying more restrictive rules on access than even President Bush uses in the White House, banned reporters from the start of the meetings, so as not to risk a question being asked of Palin.

This is about the most biased and insulting article about Sarah Palin yet, from one of her “sisters” in the Main Stream Media.

Karzai generated light laughter when he told an audience at the Asia Society that, in addition to Rice and Norway’s prime minister, he had seen Palin on Tuesday. Thomas Freston, a member of the society’s board, drew loud applause and laughter when he responded: “You’re probably the only person in the room who’s met Gov. Palin.”

The polls over the last week or so have been troubling with McCain-Palin trending down from their post Convention peek. The Campaign needs to get Sarah more exposure, more TV interviews and town hall meeting if they want to reverse the current trend.

Sara Kugler (Associated Press writer) political campaign contributions link...

http://www.newsmeat.com/fec/bystate_detail.php?zip=10014&last=Kugler&first=Sara

From Wikipedia: America Coming Together (ACT) was a liberal, political action, 527 group dedicated to get-out-the-vote activities. ACT did not specifically endorse any political party, but mostly worked on behalf of Democratic candidates. It was the largest 527 group in 2004 and was planning to be involved in future races. The group was primarily funded by Peter Lewis, GEORGE SOROS, and labor unions, especially the Service Employees International Union, and was led by Steve Rosenthal, a former political director of the AFL-CIO.

Gee, I didn’t notice such condescension when Obama went on his whirlwind Foreign Policy Intern Tour to the Middle East and Europe. Now Sarah Palin can mark her checklist off on meeting foreign leaders. She is now even with Obama on foreign policy experience.

They are going to reach a fork in the road after this election. They can either go down a path to nothingness or they will try to be fair journalists.

There is no 2 lane option anymore.

The American people have figured them out.

She is getting plenty of exposure and I bet her Oct 2 debate with Biden gets the highest audience rating of any VP debate in history, and perhaps any Presidential debate. When you have a superstar, you carefully orchestrate her appearances. Drawing 60,000 at her rally at the The Villages in Fl is an indication that her star power has not faded. Her interview with Hannity set records and the Couric interview over two days is upcoming.

The MSM is composed of trolls. The two solutions to trolling are ban and ignore. This is a free country, so the ignore option comes naturally.

The trolls will whine all the way to November. And when the results of the election are announced, the dinosaur media will learn just how close that enormous meteor is.

Buy futures in crappy fiction (the properly labeled kind - not the stuff marked ‘journalism’).

At least we know that she was born in this country. Obama, on the other hand, has still not produced a birth certificate proving where he was born. I have traveled to all continents except Antarctica...does that make me more qualified to be Vice President? I think not.

At this point in time, McCain should just put all the cards on the table and tell the AP/ABC/CBS/NYT/Charles Gibson/etc to cover their candidates (Democrats), and that his own campaign will allow access by the WSJ/NY Post/Wa Times/Sean Hannity/etc.

Cut off all access immediately, let the public know why, and end this BS once and for all. It is not doing McCain or Palin a bit of good to pretend like they are being covered objectively by any of the leftist media.

“Sara” Kugler? Isn’t that the gay boy who is Andrew Sullivan’s latest boy-toy? I’m not sure that thing is female, except maybe in the Fembot sense of nasty, left-wing, politically correct jackal.

Of course this hit piece does not attempt any unbiased comparisons with how the Obamas and the Clintons have handled media access (or denial thereof) over the past 2 - 16 years.....

When have Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton submitted themselves to extensive free-for-all media access? Hardly ever..... Hillary has been in a bubble for her entire political career.... not to mention Barack Obama never facing really open and agressive media questioning.

When is Berry going to get a crash coarse in foreign policy? Does the media think his grammar school days in Indonesia count for experience? Sarah Palin’s resume is 499 pages larger than the one measly page Obama calls a resume. Only the sycophants in the media would call that experience.

How often had Gov. Bill Clinton been out of the country when he was elected President? Other than when he was demonstrating against his country at university in England.

I think I know what the McCain people are doing.

1. They are keeping Sarah on message and letting Biden be Biden. A walking gaffe machine, he subtly undermines Barack.

2. McCain knows that Sarah is a much stronger debater and screen presence than the MSM suspects. So, keeping her in the bubble will force the media to dumb her down before the Big Debate, which will draw as many if not more viewers than the McCain-Obama match.

3. As a result, if, as I suspects, she knocks the debate out of the park, she becomes an instant superstar and screen presence and McCain will turn her loose in the country. Huge crowds. Big Time Boo-yah.

I’m convinced that McCain is playing possum with her.

Best,

Chris
