Interesting. I swear I won’t look at any more polls up until election day. Yeah right.

Give all polls at least a +4 on McCain for the Bradley/Wilder effect.

I hope McCain will gain ground, but everything so far indicates that this election is very close, like the last two. I think these numbers are pretty believable. Unless McCain manages to win Michigan or Pennsylvania, or Obama manages to win Virginia, I think the state that we may be waiting on late into the night to decide things may be Colorado.

I am hoping that Pennsylvania joins the McCain soon. That will put him over the top early on election day.

The polls are just guesses. The communist party, formally known as Democratic, have this thing almost tied up. They have been working on building the RAT corrupt machine for years and have confiscated most all of the media that reach the majority of the citizens. The lies and distortion is taking it’s toll. Even FOX is now allowing RATS to take 2/3 of the time on almost any show. Eye opener. Wish I was wrong.

As of right now, I have it 269 Obama (with him carrying Colorado) to 266 McCain, with New Hampshire being too close to call either way.

I’m thinking our next President and Vice President could be ... Joe Biden!!!!!

(Republicans win enough House seats to keep Obama from getting a majority of the House delegates, while Democrats pick up a net of one or more Senators, elect Joe Biden Vice Biden, and he ascends to President upon a stalemate in the House.)

Obama is trusted more than McCain on the economy by a seven-point margin in both Michigan and Pennsylvania. The candidates are evenly divided on the issue in the other three states.

• McCain is trusted more on national security issues in all five states.

• Overall, McCain is trusted more than Obama in four of the five states, with Michigan as the exception. In Pennsylvania, McCain’s advantage on the trust question is only two percentage points while his biggest edge is found in Florida.

• When asked who they would like advice from on the toughest decision of their life, a plurality or majority in all five states pick McCain. The margins are very small in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

So in most of these states McCain ties or wins the trust issue and Penn and Michigan are not states Mccain needs to pick up anyway.

He does need Colorado though...

I was 100% certain McCain was going to win until this week. All those insane poll, fundraising, and crowd numbers for Obama, never impressed me.

But the Wall Street meltdown is probably too much for McCain to overcome in 6 weeks. Are you guys seeing the msm narrative that’s hardening into stone? “Not only is John McCain’s philosophy responsible for this mess, did we mention McCain is a dirty stinkin liar?” He can’t overcome this in 6 weeks.

My cousin, who lives in Burke, VA is certain Obama is going to carry VA based on the efforts he sees here. He expects an Obama vote total in NOVA that will make the rest of the state meaningless.

Nice try-no way McCain loses unless he screws up terribly in the debates.

Virginia: McCain is viewed favorably by 58%, Obama by 52%. While 41% rate the Republican unfavorably, 45% say the same of the Democrat.

This is the important feature to key on. People can change their favorable opinion of someone much easier than they will change their unfavorable opinion of someone.

While most people have been focusing on Colorado, I have, like you, been eyeing once-loyal New Hampshire, with it’s 4 electoral votes. Your numbers are off, though. If New Hampshire were to give McCain 270, then Obama would have only 268, not the 269 you suggest. As for New Hampshire, I lived there once, and my gut feeling is that, despite it’s ever more liberal leanings, it has witnessed two McCain primary victories, in 2000 and 2008, and another one this year by Hillary over Obama, and, therefore, I see McCain winning it.

Iirc, if Obama got IA-CO-NM and McCain got NH, then it’s 269-269 and the House decides. And Obama becomes president.

McCain has to hold CO, VA and OH. (PA or MI seem extreme long shots to me.) I don’t know why he’s still spending money in IA and MN.

sorry. my count is now 269 for Obama, 265 for McCain, NH with 4 uncertain.

Hedgehog (not me) awards NH to McCain, and has it 269 to 269.

You guys in New Hampshire might be able to force a tie in the Electoral College AND help us out in the House of Representatives by winning back at least one of the state’s two seats.

You better count again. McCain will win. ANd if the polls are tied on November 4 he will win easily. BTW, two polls out of New Hampshire this week have McCain winning. Barack is fading in the state formerly famous for their Live Fee or Die slogan.

If what you mean by “you better count again” is to make sure I and those I can influence vote, and that I should send in money and put up yard signs and in other ways help the campaign, I agree with you.

With regard to the polls, my rule of thumb is that, in state elections, a Republican has a chance of winning going into the final weekend no less than six points down; and, I would feel pretty confident of winning going into the final weekend being no less than two points down. Sometimes, things break against our guy, as what happened in 2000, when Gore closed fast and actually won the nationwide popular vote and fell just short in the electoral college.
