"Defend freedom," urges the National Rifle Association's new TV and radio ad campaign. "Defeat Obama."
-snip-
The ad called "Hunter" features a Virginia hunter named Karl Rusch asking about Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., "Where is this guy from? He's probably never been hunting a day in his life."
"Hunter" claims Obama supports a "huge" new tax on guns and ammo, a claim based on a 1999 story in the Chicago Defender. It says Obama "voted to ban virtually all deer hunting ammunition" (a charge based on a 2005 Senate vote for a failed amendment from Sen. Ted Kennedy, D-Mass., which would have expanded the definition of "armor-piercing") and supports a "ban on the shotguns and rifles most of us use for hunting" (a reference to Obama saying in a 2004 Senate debate that President Bush should have renewed the Assault Weapons Ban.)
"Veteran" features the hunter's son -- former Marine Staff Sgt. Kurt Rusch, who served in Iraq -- and takes issue with Obama's opposition in 2004 to a bill that offered legal protections to those who use firearms in self-defense, "freedoms that I fought for, that my friends died to defend," Rusch says.
The legislation originated from a 2003 incident when a Wilmette, Ill., restaurateur named Hale DeMar shot and wounded a burglar who broke into his house. DeMar was prosecuted by the town of Wilmette, which had, at the time, a ban on the possession of handguns, so some Illinois lawmakers introduced legislation to offer legal protections to individuals who use firearms in self-defense. The bill passed the Illinois state House by a vote of 86-25, and the Illinois state Senate -- where Obama voted against it -- by a vote of 39-20.

The msm is going to go ballistic over these ads.
Ouch! Those ARE going to hurt.
As I proud member of the NRA, I am glad to see them spending my money well.
Sadly, the comments are heavily in favor of Obama. I guess its to be expected that those that disagree will be most likely to comment.
NRA sent voter registration forms to northern Nevada voters (images of confiscated guns being scrapped). Good work.
Good God, did anyone read the comments?
I listen to WLS, out of Chicago a lot, and I remember the guy who shot the burgler.
IIRC, he was disabled. And those bozos charged him.
I didn’t know that Obama thought that was ok. What a jerk.
Like this one?
HOLD ONTO THEM THERE GUNS! WHEN OBAMA /BIDEN WIN, WE'LL JUST PRY'EM OUTTA YOUR COLD DEAD HANDS ON NOV 5TH..
Can't say they aren't telling you in plain words...
I’m glad they’re doing the ads but if the NRA supports John Murtha again this year I’m cutting up my membership card and mailing it to them.
I just renewed my NRA membership for another year.
After seeing these ads I might just have to join the NRA finally.
Was getting afraid they were gonna take a pass on this election cycle, but instead they definitely opening up on Obama with both barrels.
Only two words can really answer that comment...Molon Labe
"... You don't have to bitter to know that Barack Obama isn't the kind of change we need. ..."
Ha ha they seem to be a wee bit worried about the NRA. What really struck me was the number of them trying to change the subject to the bailouts.
Very good!
>>>After seeing these ads I might just have to join the NRA finally.<<<<
That’s a start but really doesn’t do a lot of good. Note who paid for these ads. It wasn’t the NRA. It was the NRA’s Political Victory Fund. Membership dues do very little to support legislative or political actions. In order to make a difference, you most also contribute to the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action and the Political Victory Fund.
Who says PACs are a bad thing. It is OUR PAC that is funding these ads.
Wow! These are some of the hardest-hitting, no-nonsense ads I’ve seen this year. No wonder Joe’s been running around talking about his “over and under”.
The libs are scared of four million gun owners. How scared wouild they be if half of the gun owners which number around 40 million gun owners were NRA members.
Join the NRA. Now.
I did!! Most of those people are delusional. I swear these people must smoke dope and watch Star Trek reruns all day long.
You can rest assured that the coward who wrote this won't be coming around. Instead he or she will be cheering on the JBTs who will relish this sort of thing (or they will until the first couple of them hear a loud "CLACK").
Done. But this doesn't mean that I won't be watching them like a hawk....LOL.
Best,
L
Thanks for the ping, Joe.
Better make sure they bring help if they want to do that.....:o)
BTTT

Remember, remember the 5th of November........
Same here.
I don’t know if these ads are being played elsewhere, but here in Virginia, there’s an Obama add where this guy introduces himself as the President of “The American Hunters and Shooters Association”, and goes on to say something along the lines of “While both John McCain AND Barak Obama will ensure your 2nd Amendment rights to own firearms, only Obama understands the economy.” Having never heard of this group, I looked them up.. They’re basically an ANTI-GUN Liberal group who are all about gun control. Boy, with a name like theirs, who would have thought? Dirty tricks!
Yeah, I know who they are. Slimy bastards.
LOL... bring it on!
To invoke a reaction like that, the NRA barrage must be landing close. Fire for effect! My membership money well spent.
“Im glad theyre doing the ads but if the NRA supports John Murtha again this year Im cutting up my membership card and mailing it to them.”
Are you kidding me?

They are running that ad here in central Indiana.
About the NRA supporting Murtha or about me cutting up my membership card and mailing it back to them? Both are true.
