'SNL' Palin 'Incest' Skit Angers Viewers Viewers, Bloggers Think Skit Went Over Line

POSTED: 11:30 am EDT September 22, 2008 UPDATED: 12:14 pm EDT September 22, 2008 For the second week in a row, NBC's "Saturday Night Live" has taken to lampooning Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin -- but this time, it has angered conservative viewers over a skit that suggests that the Alaska governor's husband, Todd Palin, was having sex with the couple's daughters.

In the skit, show guest host James Franco plays an assignment editor at the New York Times at the head of an editorial meeting. During a mock assignment meeting where the paper announced that 50 reporters were being sent to look for dirt on Sarah Palin, a Times "reporter" asks, "What about the husband? You know he's doing those daughters. I mean, come on. It's Alaska."

In response, Franco's character said, "He very well could be. Admittedly, there is no evidence of that, but on the other hand, there is no convincing evidence to the contrary. And these are just some of the lingering questions about Gov. Palin."

I hate it when “we” play the victim as it’s the liberals stock in trade to constantly whine about how offended they are, yada yada.

BUT - this is so far over the line that it may be best if it gets elevated through a libel suit or something. NBC and GE probably don’t need the PR “help” after last weeks stock hammering, and with O’Reilly nipping at their heels.

People who might “lean Obama” need to know this is going on, and the MSM isn’t going to touch it unless they think they can damage a rival, NBC.

Oh for goodness sakes, the skit was meant to point out what a bunch of butt clowns the NYT is for taking gaarbage spewed directly from the Daily Kos and DU and posting it as fact.

Kind of like those butt clowns from Hollywood do. E.G. ~ Matt Damon, Lindsay Lohan, Chevy chase. Clueless.

I am not really a Conservative at least I wasn’t in 2001, since then I have become more so as the years go by. SNL has been deteriorating for quite sometime, but this skit is downright evil and SNL isn’t allowed in my house anymore.

I have to strongly agree with you.

Its unfortunate that conservatives refuse to get this.

The point is that the NYT is over the top. The fact that the skit calls them out directly rather than the oblique media is quite a statement in itself.

On a brighter note, any controversy will probably help our side regardless.

I’m a very, VERY novice stand up comedian BUT I do know that one thing you never do is joke about incest & hurting kids. They thought they could get away with it b/c Sarah’s Conservative. If they did that in a comedy club outside of Hollyweird, they’d get booed off the stage.

You know, I think this was intended to be an attack on The New York Times. The skit didn’t say that Todd Palin. Rather it said that a typical left-wing, Palin-hating New York Times reporter was willing to come up with a dirty smear on no evidence at all.

That’s the LOGICAL interpretation of the skit. But I think that people are right to get angry anyway, because this stuff is just too dirty and disgusting to be laughed about on a “comedy show,” unless they get a lot more specific about who is to blame. It’s too disgusting to be on the air AT ALL.

Would they run a skit about Obama raping his daughters? I think not. Would they run a skit about the Right Wing Press accusing Obama of raping his daughters? I think not, because what few conservative news sources there are do not go in for that kind of dirty, disgusting lies.

The problem is that this whole business is so damned disgusting, these left-wing lies and slanders are so damned disgusting, that they hardly bear being talked about. Certainly not in a skit where it isn’t really clear who is being insulted and slimed—the Palins, or the New York Times.

I think the liberals are targetting SNL really hard in order to distract from the truth of the skit.

The fact of the matter is that SNL nailed NYT to the wall as bunch of spoiled, snobbish, ignorant morons who are completely out of touch with the world outside of Manhattan.

No, they did not portray that at all.

The skit was a bunch of staff writers at the NYT’s making up stuff, rediculous stuff and then justifying it since there was no evidence FOR or AGAINST the allegation, no matter how rediculous it was, that they had to print it because it was a question about Palin!

For crying outloud this skit was a complete rip on the NYT and the mainstream media for how absolutely rediculous they are.

I don’t mind it when SNL pokes fun at our side. I can appreciate good comedy when it is done in good taste and this obviously was not done in good taste.

Whether it was really an attack on the media or not it still crossed the line as far as I’m concerned.

Maybe next week SNL will do a skit making fun of Sarah’s down syndrome daughter.

That’s how I saw it - they were showing how ridiculous the media is. The whole skit was about that.

We don’t do ourselves any favors by screaming when we don’t need to. I heard Rush this a.m. on this subject and he admittedly didn’t see the skit but to listen to him you’d think it was a serious attack on the Palins, not the media.

IMHO.

The emmys were up against the Cowboys/Packers game on nbc. I heard the game had high ratings. It’s no surprise the emmys got smoked as bad as the Packers got smoked by the Cowboys.

It shows where America’s soul really is. Once upon a time, the Oscars aired the same night as the NCAA Basketball championship game. The NCAA kept their schedule. The Oscars moved. Hollywood always overrates it’s actual influence on the American pubic.

If they are knocking the media, then we could expect a similar skip with editors talking about confirming if Barack and Michelle had joined the Al Qaeda group.
They are sending reports to investigate if the Obamas had even said thay had wished they joined before 9/11.

Who would think that was funny? I’m for Sarah Palin, and I wound not think it was funny, but in very poor taste.

Indeed, SNL set out to belittle the MSM and the NYT, specifically. But, they obviously used their “humor” as a double-edged sword in order to make sure that the Palins took a hit, as well.

They should have been able to poke the NYT with less prurient material, if that’s what they really wanted to accomplish.

JMHO.

This was one of the suggestions.

Unfortunately, there is no video online as far as I can tell; NBC has had the one briefly on Youtube removed.

I agree that it sounds to me as if the skit was lampooning the media and its eagerness to throw rumors out there as stories -- especially when it involves a conservative. That said, the idiots that watch SNL would probably assume that the story (about Palin) is true or it wouldn't have been included in the skit.

Sorry I don't see the humor in it.

Surely they could have found another subject to "joke" about other than jokingly implying that Todd Palin is having incestuous pedophile sex with his minor daughters.

What if they would have jokingly implied that it was Obama who was having incestuous pedophile sex with his two minor daughters? Of course they would never do that to the Messiah, so why did they think they could jokingly imply that Todd Palin was?
