On last nights Saturday Night Live, there was an eight minute clip that focused on the NY Times coverage of Sarah Palin.
The skit addressed a fictional meeting where the Peter Conolly Assignment Editor of the NY Times explains his plans to send 50 reporters to Alaska, to dig dirt on the Palins.
The media may try to play this off as SNL bringing up the topic of incest in the Palin household. The real story is that SNL framed the NY Times and it's staff for precisely what kind of tactics they have used against the Palins so far. The management and the reporters for the times were skewered here, and it was amazingly over the top.
Folks, this was a great skit. You'll have to see it to believe it, and I have posted the 8:04 minute clip on YouTube for you to see.
Enjoy.
It was a funny skit. Places like Alaska and the Midwest are foreign countries to these people. No understanding of the people that make this country work!
My wife and I watched the one from last week with “Hillary”. I thought it was hysterical. They poked just as much fun at Hillary as they did Sarah.
The other thread was going downhill fast.
The most vehement comments came from those who, of course, had not seen the show.
Thanks for trying to provide a little ‘balance’, and the link.
Maybe those posters can watch it, and see the truth.
That’s the way I see it too. It’s an indictment of the press not the Palin’s.
Thanks, I had not seen it.
Excellent. A very good example of the elitist mentality of NYTimes type people and their left coast ilk.
Thanks for posting that. I put in my years in Manhattan, and I know those leftist, smug, but articulate Manhattan reporters—every character in that skit was spot on.
I had not seen it but based on the description on the other thread this was both good for Palin and a damning take on the MSM’s hatred of her.
We are such losers.
Instead of burning it down, we nervously laugh, and lie to ourselves.
No wonder the left has its way with us daily.
But first they must have their wallowing moment in any perceived slight against McCain, Palin or the GOP, no matter how untenable the accuser is.
e.g., Bernhardt dishes Palin---Oh my goodness, pass the smelling salts!
There is actually a thread that focuses on the incest but when I read the last line I got it.
Do you believe I misrepresented the skit?
I’m sorry, I’m not sure how to take your post.
Thanks for the Youtube clip, it does show them ripping on NYT pretty heavily.
Exactly.
I thought it was great.
Skewered:
the NY Slimes,
lazy, loopy lib journalists
anti-2nd amendment types...
and more...
Long, but funny
I’ve only seen the description and, while other FReepers too it as a scurrilous attack on the Palin family, it sure reads like an attack on the MSM to me. And a warranted one, at that.
I said last night that I watched the whole show and didn’t see one funny sketch. I was mistaken - this was a funny one. They really lampooned the MSM and their elitism.
Good sketch. I like the polar bear thread, as I have actually once had a conversation like that regarding bears and mountain lions in while hiking in Colorado.
Good comedy has a kernel of truth to it. This NY Times thing is funny because NY Times reporters in real life come off as being Manhattan elitists and the NY Times in real life comes off as trying to slime Sarah Palin
What was the kernel of truth last week about Sarah Palin that made it funny? Seems to me the humor was based on politically motivated leftwing elitist, lies.
LOL, good one
Thanks for posting a rational thread on this.
My niece and nephew are on their 2nd and 3rd years working in Manhattan. One in show biz and the other for a magazine. It scares me what they are learning there. Of course, when I lived in Los Angeles, I became much more conservative and opened my eyes to the savagery of the left.
What was funny last week was Hillary's ambition to be President.
It takes a comedy skit to set the record straight.

Pretty funny — especially for post-funny era SNL. They even razzed the Times reporters for not knowing anything about guns.
It sure did bring out the stupidity of the media....lol....
The *BEST* thing that could happen to the staff and writers if SNL is a McCain and Palin victory. There’s no way to make Biden funny, and great limits as to what they could do to Obama, but in their sheer self interest would be having our side win.
Since Hillary isn’t running for anything, that’s easy for them.
You should be wondering where the Obama jokes are.
And the skit opened with the accusation that Sarah Palin’s husband was sleeping with her daughters.
Calling a bottom of the gutter sexist political whisper campaign “funny” just isn’t.
What was funny last week was Hillary's ambition to be President.
So then you agree that the content of what the Sarah character said last week wasn't funny.
And you missed the fact that Democratic Minnesota Senate candidate Al Frankin wrote that opening scene.
That wasn’t a “perceived slight”, sweets. Bernhardt said Palin better not come to Manhattan because she would raped by her big black brothers.
That’s a PERCEIVED SLIGHT to you?
oooookay.
It was a mock of the NYT.
He did work with SNL on the opening skit. I didn’t miss it and I didn’t address it. If you would like to, go ahead and explain why you didn’t like it. I’d imagine most folks would agree with you.
This sketch doesn’t have a “kernel of truth”, more like the whole damned ear!
What made me laugh was how the audience sounded dumbfounded by the skit. They didn’t laugh all that much, and for those that did, some of it sounded like nervous laughter.
It’s safe to say that most people who attend SNL tapings are leftist, and this audience in particular probably got the joke that this skit was slamming the metrosexuals and elites of the NYT. I’m guessing most of them were offended by the skit for daring to slam the NYT in particular and smarmy metrosexuals in general.
Given that the reporter speaking about Alaska was the normal and authoritative character in the skit, and given that he was appalled by the freak-like, out-of-touch nature of the other reporters, this skit was clearly mocking the NYT.
It was my time among the hyper-excesses of the left that woke me up as well.
Your n & n are sure to be having a good time, learning a lot and gaining in confidence. Maybe—even if the effect is delayed by a couple of years—it’ll open their eyes too. (Though the percentages may not be with them—those are both tough industries not be locked in step with!)
Probably was a pretty accurate portrayal of the effeminate, perverted, ignoramuses that pass as “journalists” at the New York Times.
Obviously, SNL does not hurt the MSM/DNC, since they are winning.
And obviously, SNL mocking Republicans for decades as rubes, white trash, racists, stupid, taliban-like, etc., does WORK.
So why are we laughing? To show how sophisticated we are?
Oh gee...we can laugh at ourselves...don't we deserve a pat on the back?
Very funny. Funny because it is so close to reality.
Wow, I can not believe that SNL ridiculed the NYTimes this way. Spot on and hilarious!! Thanks for making this post, the other thread was like Bizaro world. Did any of those freepers even watch this skit or simply freak when they heard it mentioned incest? Its an attack on the Times folks, watch the skit before commenting next time.
Watching the video, I would say that it was the NY Times' bottom of the gutter, sexist political whisper campaign that was being roasted. I thought it was funny.
I noticed that as well.
I saw the other thread about this. I don’t know what got into SNL, but this is all a huge, huge slam of the press, and NYC culture in general.
I honestly can’t see how this is anti-Palin.
Before I watch this clip, I just want to be sure of one thing — Can polar bears sense my watching a video that makes reference to them?
