Poll: White Democrats’ Racism Could Cost Obama White House

A new AP-Yahoo News poll finds that white Democrats’ resistance to voting for a black man for President could cost Democratic Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama the White House: Deep-seated racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll that found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks — many calling them “lazy,” “violent” or responsible for their own troubles. The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 — about two and one-half percentage points.

Is this really a good strategy to call your own party racist?

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. The poll says about 1/3 of white Democrats don't care for black (Democrats).

The Republican party already knows from results in Ohio and Marylad that about 20% of white Democrats can be counted on to NOT vote for a black candidate. Else, the Governor of Ohio would be a black man, and the junior senator from Maryland would be another black man.

This is a hard, cold, fact of life.

BTW, Ohio and Maryland are two of the several states where Republicans usually need some degree of crossover vote to get their guys into statewide office.

I suspect this poll is simply a confirmation of what is already known about the voting public.

BTW, it's about Democrats, not Republicans. The Republicans had a very low disaffection rate on account of the race of the canidate in both Ohio and Maryland. Republicans can and do vote for black candidates. White Democrats do so as well, but 20% of them don't.

Backwards. If Obama wins it will be because of racism.

No, they’re nuts. But the effect of a few blacks protesting Obama is ironic.

No doubt there are racists out there. But the kind of person who wouldn’t vote for a 1/2 black man probably wouldn’t vote for a woman either.

Palin's not running for president; I don't think the VP choice would be a factor if someone was voting because of bias.

But the whole concept is wrong. Because of liberal tendencies to vote with guilt, white Democrats would be more likely to vote based upon race, towards the minority.

Whereas other ethnic groups are far more likely to take into account someone's race when voting. Blaming 'White America' for Obama losing is far more comfortable to liberals (and the ensuing need to have more education in the school system about racism) than the idea that other minorities will stay home, or vote for John McCain because of Obama's race. Because if this happens, and it comes out, the whole stack of cards that liberals have been building, about representing a colorblind unified party, will come crumbling down.

How can Obama lose Georgia, if it is the blackest state in the Union? I dunno, but it seems Obama has taken all his money and ads out of Georgia, because it is favored to go to McCain. Maybe Obama is not playing so well with some of his black base. I mean after all Cynthia McKinney is running for President with the Green Party.

Oh, yeah, the reason Obama is going to lose is that he has NOT attracted Republican voters.

That's always fatal to any presidential candidate's ambitions.

I think it’s race that leverages all those things. Without the race factor, I don’t think those things are enough to deny Obama the WH. Yeah, I think if Obama were white, and somehow managed to beat HRC still (wouldn’t have happened I don’t think), he’d win this thing in a crushing landslide.

If that works fine..just as long as he isn’t the next President.

Didn't Obama infer that Bill Clinton was a racist, Bill Clinton dubbed "the first black president" by the NAACP.

I love this poll. Keep it up MSM and Rat leadership - keep calling your own voters racist.

You will virtually guarantee the return of Reagan Democrats to the GOP - this time likely to stay.

That is, until the Stupid Party drives them away again...

This is what is going on IMO. If the Democrats lose the election, they want to try and beat the race drum to the American people to hide the fact that despite 8 years of media attacks on the Republican administration, a weak economy that by default gets hung on Pres. Bush, and Democratic momentum from 06 elections, they still can't close the deal with the public.

I also KNOW that middle America is tired of being called racist and this is going to have the opposite affect.

I do not see any polls saying: POLL: BLACK VOTERS’ RACISM COULD COST JOHN MCCAIN WHITE HOUSE.

I have to give Obama and his backers from the MSM credit for their message of hate.

They are successfully dividing the country hoping for a race war.

It is almost impossible to watch CNN,PMSNBC and the so-called big three networks.

These folks no longer are hiding their Obama bias.

Lets hope the America voter gets fed up with this crap before November 4.

I predict should Obama be elected, that in less than a year, America will be in far worse circumstances than we are now.

The fact of the matter is, if Obama was white, he would have been like any other junior senator, with no chance whatsoever of running for the President.

The GOP needs to learn the identies of some of these protesters.

I suspect they are really Obama plants. Easy enough to find out — who are these folks? Mostly they hid their faces with the signs, as if they didn’t want their faces photographed.

Were they simply escorted out? Were they arrested?

Curious minds want to know.

Is Joe Lieberman a racist because he is not voting for Obama, or just a democrat who supports our troops against Terrorism?

RACISM will be used to keep the polls open in Philly, St. Louis and other urban areas on election night.

How else can you get a total vote of 150% of the number of registered voters?

I’m over racism, just don’t care. I have expended all my goodwill on “boy cries wolf” everyday in the media. Racism exists on all sides, get over it...
