SAN DIEGO, California (CNN) -- The new offensive in the presidential election is a Spanish-language air war in which each party is trying to convince Latino voters that the other is no amigo to the nation's largest minority and that it did them wrong during the immigration debacle in Congress.

Stop the tape! The spots are hard-hitting, but only one hits the target. The McCain-Palin ad is accurate. But the Obama-Biden ad is riddled with problems.

# McCain ad is on target in saying Dems blocked immigration reform, he says
# Navarrette: Obama ad is off base in claiming McCain agreed with Limbaugh
Not exactly what McCain should be “better than Obama” on....
“I promise more illegal alien amnesty” is not a winning campaign platform
And now a breaking weather report - Hell has hit a record low of 32 degrees Fahrenheit and has, indeed, frozen over.
Excellent down the middle article.
Over in town 89% of the citizens are Hispanic and probably 90% of the people I go to church with are of Mexican American heritage.
Yet there seems to be quite a bit of support for McCain Palin.
The priest told his parishioners that they needed to make their vote for president based what the bible teaches.
That voters need to examine each candidates views.
Those candidates with views that run counter to what the bible teaches and what Christians believe should not gain their vote.
The priest did not come right and say that members could not vote for Obama and Biden but he did say that supporting those who support the murder of the unborn created problems.
Pandering to people who shouldn’t even be voting isn’t the most ethical thing I’ve ever seen.
On a somewhat distantly related note:
I took my Suburban to get a smog check today. The smog tech was a gentleman of Hispanic descent (came here in 1985, under the fence, but is now a citizen). He asked me who I was going to vote for this year. I said I wasn’t sure (I know, cowardly but...).
He didn’t say who he favored, but began to tell me (in heavily accented, broken English) how tired he was of people ragging on Bush. He felt that Dubya was doing the best he could with a terrible burden to bear, and no support from Congress. He said we should all work together to solve the problems facing us. (I paraphrase his words somewhat, but this is the gist of it).
The he said that his fellow immigrants who whine about America should be grateful for the opportunities they have or get the hell out! He said “Here, I can work for one day and eat for a week. In Mexico, I work for a week and can eat for one day”. He spoke of how grateful he was that he could raise his children here, and be able to buy a house.
Then he said, with disgust, that the Middle Eastern immigrants who own the gas station actually thanked Allah when 9/11 happened. I was speechless at that point...
Sorry to ramble, but my experience today gave me new hope for America :-)
Spot on !
Huh, what?? I need help on this. I just bought a new computer and even after hitting refresh about a dozen times, this article is shown as being from CNN.
Is there a way to fix this, or should I just send return the computer?
;-)
Well I beg to disagree. Amnesty will not pass because no one wants it. It's far better to leave it to the states who are proving that enforcement works. All that's needed now is for California and Texas to pass Arizona-style legislation and it'll almost guarantee that the illegals will start going back to their countries of origin voluntarily or find themselves arrested and deported with no chance of entering the US legally for at least 10 years.
