Rush Limbaugh, featured in a new, Spanish-language Barack Obama ad, says the commercial distorts his past statements and amounts to "race-baiting" by the Democratic nominee.
The commercial, to air in Limbaugh's home state of Florida as well as Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada, features a picture of the conservative talk show host and shows his words on the screen: "Mexicans are stupid and unqualified" and "Shut your mouth or get out." It was first reported by the Washington Post's Ed O'Keefe.
"Obama is now stoking racism in the country," Limbaugh wrote in an email. "Obama is a disgrace - he wants the public to think he is Mr. Nice Guy while his thugs are in Alaska looking for dirt on Palin and he runs race-baiting ads and lies about what he has done and what McCain has done."
As for the quotes, Limbaugh said they were taken out of context.
The first, "stupid and unqualified," is from the NAFTA debate of the mid-90s, he recalled. He didn't specify how it was distorted, but said he and his staff were researching the context.
On "shut your mouth," Limbaugh produced an April 2006 transcript from what he described as a parody of Mexican immigration laws.
The talk show host read a list of stringent rules, adding "shut your mouth and get out," before revealing to listeners that the guidelines were those set by the Mexican government for immigrants.
The full bit is after the jump and I'll add the context on the first quote when I get it from either Obama's camp or Limbaugh.
McCain launched his own Spanish-language ad last week blaming Obama for the collapse of immigration reform last week, striking a more moderate tone on the issue than his border security-focused stance in the GOP primary. Polls show Obama leading among Hispanic voters, but McCain is making an aggressive push for their support as they represent a key constituency in key states such as Florida and the competitive states in the intterior west.
0 and Gibson took the same Dimocrat seminar, and learned to short quote their opponents. How clever.
I guess Obabambi has decided to through caution, truth, integrity and sanity to the wind. I’m no attorney but this ad strikes me as libelous.
RUSH needs to take to Obama like he did to Dingy Harry. I’d suggest at least a week worth of airtime.
See my explanation of short quoting here:

If Rush wants to run a counter ad, and set the record straight, he can count on my contribution.
Ditto
unfortunately, more than a few conservative immigration zealots took a on a hateful anti-Hispanic tone instead of a rational pro-law and security tone. This could cost us the election and will result in even more illegals entering the country and create a permanent Democrat majority.

I’m not specifically talking about limbaugh. Many conservatives expressed a lot of emotion against Hispanics during the immigration debate.
Rush, you need to start a 527, you would have $100million in donations within a week. Then....a serious case of fact filled whoop-a** will descend upon the Messiah.
Evidently there is no limit to how low they will sink for power. It's scary.
It was a distortion used by Biden at Mr. Thomas’ Senate hearing for his judicial nomination. Mr. Biden is unfit to serve this country.
If I was Rush and had several hundred million bucks, I would make Bambi pay severely by running ten million dollars of my own ads against him.
So you are saying that a fake but accurate report ascribing such comments to Rush Limbaugh is okay?
And the Mexican government’s own stance against immigrants and foreign protesters is A-OK?
Should we also be a united nation that learns to speak Spanish, as Mr. Obama has insisted (they don’t need to learn English, WE should learn Spanish, the rest of the world laughs at us because we aren’t fluent in multiple languages).
The DNC would love to campaign against Rush Limbaugh. He’ll be smart if he doesn’t take the bait and run ads for them to “respond to”.
He has 3-4 hours a day (one hour of periodic extra broadcasting for subscribers).
I never got into those debates on FR but I heard about them.
Another post was bemoaning a Gallup Poll showing Onada up by one point. If Onada is making such a comeback why does he think must play the race card? Answer: It’s the only thing he ever had. And it’s all the demrats are left with to get him elected. My gut tells me a lot of people are just not gonna go along with it this time. In any case, you know it will not sway pubbies who are already committed to McCain/Palin ticket. It may sway some white dems. But it will it offset white dems who may not be real comfortable with people of color. The only group it is likely to have any impact on is Blacks. This is a deadend, last ditch, last arrow in the quiver ploy. Oh, I thought he was the Messiah. Heck some Europeans loved him. There can only be one answer to that—racism. Barf and double barf.
Limbaugh put the truth out in that broadcast and the pro-illegal crowd didn't like it.
Too ----ing bad.
Rush’s ex is a Latina...nice try RATS.
LOVE to see Rush SUE the LIARS!!
Rush should give a few million to the nastiest 527 group.
Mr. sedition violated the Logan Act for heavens sake.
Could someone please post the transcript of the ad in English?
Could someone please post the transcript of the ad in English?
Sen. Obama uses the best-known talk show host in an ad and distorts his words. Obama has also been talking about another conservative talk show host. This is starting to concern me...
actually Rush should do it IN SPANISH to expose Obama as a LIAR.
Harry Reid learned his lesson about talk show hosts, Obama wasn’t paying attention I guess.
You forgot the word "illegal."
FIND THE QUOTES. You are using Al Sharpton’s criteria for racism.
I agree and it needs to stop. The pro open borders crowd has been wined and dined by the Mex. lobbyist and the usage by this group of “hispanic” is a play on words to try a united front. This is pure BS. There legal and illegal. period.
If the illegals havent caused so many problems and cost the American taxpayers an arm and a leg...if the didnt demonstrate in OUR country the American people wouldnt be upset....but with the majority of illegals from Mexico and neighboring countries we have every right to be PO’d
Put the blame where it belongs and the hell with this BS of this and them within our own country.
no there was no anti-hispanic sentiment.
IT WAS ANTI-ILLEGAL sentiment.
It was in reaction to the parade of illegals waiving mexican flags.
“...more than a few conservative immigration zealots took a on a hateful anti-Hispanic tone...”
Care to name names? I wouldn’t put Rush, Hannity or Levin in that category. And all of us were darn near accused of racism by Chavez and L. Bush.
but that’s my point. the outrage should have focused on the illegality and none of this “Juan” stuff.
you do realize OBAMA SIGNED THE SMEAR LETTER?!
“So you are saying that a fake but accurate report ascribing such comments to Rush Limbaugh is okay?”
No. Neither is taking carly Fiorina’s statements out of context. But those statements sure weren’t helpful and conservatives have to expect to more hits hit when they’re not careful with what they say.
Limbaugh has a history of fighting back. The smear letter was a remarkable event. When one gets branded a racist, it is even worse than calling soldiers “phony”
I think he will strike back in a very creative way. I hope the election becomes a fight against Obama and Limbaugh.
I’d forgotten about that! Rush did turn it around, didn’t he, and benefited a good cause.
What the Obama campaign did was outrageous! Every day Obama diminishes himself more and more.
Limbaugh doesn’t have to buy ads, nor should he.
He has the largest radio program in the country 3 hours per day.
If he says something significant, the networks will pick it up and run a story on it to reach even more.
Against illegal immigrants and their enablers. Take a Valium.
a quick google answers this question:

I call what Gibson did to Palin with the prayer quote as short quoting He short quoted her.
I differentiate short quoting from quoting out of context. Most out of context quotes we hear are actually complete sentences, but absent adjoining sentences, perhaps entire paragraphs, that give the quoted sentence its context, to help explain its true intended meaning.
A short quote, OTOH, is a partial sentence, usually an independent clause within a sentence, that has the same context changing effect as quoting out of context.
The short quote, however, is always an intentional act in which the quoter is pulling only as much out of the quote as necessary to create the effect s/he wants.
Therefore, short quoting is more evil than quoting out of context, IMO.

You could hear the wheels turning after he found out about it.
Oh come on, Rush. You’re a big boy, and it’s not like Hispanics make up a big part of your audience anyway. Take comfort in the fact that you no doubt cause Obama more heartburn than he’s caused you.
I’d never heard it before I stated using it.
