That they're going to broadcast the call to prayer at all, despite previous assurances that they wouldn't, according to Solomon, is a supremacist statement. For in the modern world, with cell phones and phone alarms and clocks everywhere and all sorts of related amenities, there is no need whatsoever for an amplified call to prayer. That would violate the city sound ordinance. All kidding aside, the difference between bells and the Muslim call to prayer is prosletizing. The bells just ring tones. The call actually says “there is no god but Allah”
you should come to brooklyn during ramadan. very loud speakers. very often. i am surprised no one has taken it upon themselves to let one go into the speaker. they would be charged with a hate crime.
St. Ambrose, down the street rings the bells at 6 AM, 6:25 AM, 6:30 AM, in the evening at 6 and whenever Mass is going to start.

The bells are also accoustic, this is amplified sound. And it falls outside of most cities’ hours for loud noises.
It’s significant that what should normally have caused a scandal investigation brouhaha if done for any other group barely created a ripple.
That was one hell of a deal the masjid got, especially considering earlier talk had been of retail or even residential complexes to alleviate many needs around that area.
It’s adjacent to Roxbury and the South End, one mainly AfroAmerican, the other urban mixed.
