Friday Night Frights (New Mexico cops detail broomstick hazing at H.S. football camp...)

SEPTEMBER 12--A quartet of boys attending a high school football camp were assaulted last month by broomstick-wielding teammates in a violent hazing ritual that could lead to charges against the assailants and the New Mexico squad's coaches. According to police interviews, the attacks were targeted against freshman and sophomore members of the Robertson High School team, which spent four days last month at a pre-season camp in San Miguel County. During the attacks, each of the younger athletes was pinned to the floor of a cabin and had a broomstick jammed over their shorts into their anus, according to reports prepared by New Mexico State Police investigators. As seen in the below excerpts, one victim said his attackers "poked him in the butt four times," and "forced in" the broomstick on the last attempt. The boy said he "cried when they did it, because it hurt." Another player said he could "feel the broom inside him" and that he was warned during the attack to "take it now" or he would "get it worse later." A third victim recalled that after he was assaulted, he was patted on the back by an assailant and told, "Way to take it like a man." In addition to considering charges against several teenage attackers, police are examining whether the football team's coaches, all of whom resigned this week, ignored or failed to properly report the attacks. One boy said that, during his attack, a coach walked into the cabin and "smirked" at the attackers and "said something sarcastic" before leaving. Another victim said that during a football practice session a second coach warned linemen that if they did not run full speed, "he would make them hop on their broom sticks." Coach Raymond Woods told police that when he first learned of the hazing, he addressed his squad and asked, "What kind of guy wants to try to stick a broom stick towards another guy's butt?" Woods resigned this week, days before investigators released their 102-page file on the mid-August incidents. (5 pages)

Incidents like these are why I will be reluctant to allow my son to go away to camps where deviant sexual behavior is present in unsupervised males.

What will it take for schools to step up and stop this from happening? Does a pissed kid need to go postal on the perps and/or their parents? Does a parent need to? Maybe seeing these kids get tossed in jail for sexual assault for 10 years with bigger and badder predators will put the fear of God into them?

Ten years in prison will be a nice example for the rapists and the coach.

At camp you can make the young guys fetch the water, carry starters’ equipment, eat chow last, clean up the dinner hall, sing the team song or do other tasks that show them their place. Nothing wrong with that. Abusing younger and smaller players though is something else entirely.

I have heard stories of freshman and sophomore players being forced to run with cookies in the butt cracks and the ones who drop them have to eat then, I have head of gauntlets where players are punched or struck all the way down the line, I have heard of blanket parties, heads stuck in used toilets and a host of other activities that do nothing to build a team or teach younger players that wearing that uniform provides an opportunity to earn honor or respect.

I’m not sure if these coaches realize it or not, but many rapes do not involve actual perp penetration. Foreign object are used. The young men who were assaulted in this manner, have been raped. Their assailants are rapists.

I read in the article that charges may be leveled. Charges should most definitely be leveled, and very serious charges at that.

What kind of an adult would allow this type of activity to take place, and think it was just a good natured hazing activity?

Any coach that knew this was going on, or had taken place, and didn’t come forward should be prosecuted as well.

You know, I really have to wonder about the parents of these kids. Are they that blind to how their sons are developing? Do they teach them anything about being men?

Why do we let our sons learn to be silent and tough it out, protect their “buddies” and to fear speaking out?

That coach needs to be put to work in the prison laundry.

Forcible sodomy should be punishable by death penalty, regardless of where it is done and attempts to excuse it.

If these coaches were government teachers I wonder if they resigned from their teaching job as well. Likely not.

Is this the wonderful “socialization” that homeschoolers are missing? (Just wondering.)

You’re so right. It is more and more obvious to me every day. I read somewhere recently and it was perfectly stated regarding the fight against the evil that is flourishing...

“we’re going to have to fight them until hell freezes over and then fight them on ice”. Good people better start taking a stand.

You volunteer to participate in every activity or chaperone every event your son attends.

More eyeballs on these sick freaks will scatter them. The NEA is filled with pedophiles across the country that need to be sent to prison. You read about it every day.

I’ve read that homeschooling associations have sporting events. I’ll bet this has never happened at any of them. And this happened at a high school, not a college. How’s THIS for a reason to homeschool?

By the way, have you noticed that these school outrages are almost always at what would be considered “good” government schools? Yet,...On Monday, this particular school and government schools across the nation will be filled with children.

The things you describe are simply the activities of sadists. They should be purged from the team. And any of them who say they were just following along don’t deserve to be called men, they are simply sheep.

How’s THIS for a reason to homeschool?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Our First Amendment is supposed to protect the citizen's God-given right to Free Assembly.

Yet....This is a **compulsory** government school. Children in this compulsory government school will be **forced** by the government to “assemble” with these perverts and their teacher-coaches. If their parents, or the kids themselves, protest,...well...that's just too bad. The government will **force** this association in spite of the First Amendment.

Yes.... Some government school defender will protest that parents have the right to use private schools or homeschool.

What parents still have the right to do is to **RANSOM** their children from government compulsion.

Parents have the right to pay extra ( AKA: “ransom”) for private schools or homeschooling in addition to paying for the government system as well. But...They can only do this if the government price-fixed monopoly hasn't completely driven the private school option completely out of business and only if the parents make enough after burdensome government school taxes so the mom can stay home.

WHAT A PERVERSE AND OPPRESSIVE GOVERNMENT SYSTEM!!!! Only the government has enough police force to get away with it!

( Yes, I am shouting! I am utterly exasperated!)

By the way, in my county there are no private schools because of the price-fixed monopoly business practices of the government.

What do you think would have happened if some neighborhood father did this to the kids in his neighborhood?

Same thing should be done to those coaches and boys.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

There was an incident some years back in the community we lived in where some 8th grade jv football players sodomized a teammate in the boys locker room. They were my son's age. Needless to say, I was really glad we homeschooled him.

I could see something like that coming in that community and that is one of the reasons we homeschooled, was to avoid the sexual abuse that ran rampant in that community. I knew that the kids were getting it in their homes and it was only a matter of time before the little hellions took it to the school.

Not on my kid.

How horrible for the victims. I hope they’ve recovered quickly and that they realize there’s nothing wrong with them. But there is something wrong with the boys who committed this horrendous crime against them.

This is most definitely a reason to homeschool! But I think we as parents need to be careful everywhere. Many homeschoolers play in little league sports. Around here, little league sports continue into the teen years. I have three sweet, innocent sons, and I do worry about these kinds of things.

Unsupervised males (and lately females as well) can do great harm to smaller kids. I blame the coaches for not doing what they needed to in terms of supervision and setting the team’s values.

Perhaps, but I don’t think there are that large number on the team who swing that direction. There just seems to be no honor among many these days, as honor should have dictated that at least one of those boys step up and say, “This is wrong, stop now.” It appears no one did.
