Sen. Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, have given an average of $369 per year to charities during the past decade, according to tax returns posted today to Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign Web site.

Senator Biden, the Democratic nominee for vice president, claimed $995 in charitable gifts in 2007 on the joint return with his wife. That figure is 0.3 percent of the couple’s claimed income of nearly $320,000.

The 2007 contributions were significantly higher than the couple’s gifts in previous years, which ranged from $120 to $380.

By comparison, Sen. John McCain, the Republican Presidential nominee, in 2007 reported $405,409 in total income and contributed $105,467, or 26 percent of his total income, to charity.

and he is a Roman Catholic? He obviously isn’t putting anything into the collection basket when it comes around on Sunday. I just hope he isn’t reaching in and removing anything.

or maybe he just doesn’t bother going to Mass on Sunday. In any case, he sounds like a freeloader to me.

As I recall, Bill Clinton’s giving was pretty puny, too. Of course, there was his donation of used underwear....

I think there were some years, before Kerry’s marriage to Mrs. Heinz, that his charitable contributions for the year were zero. Of course being a US Senator meant he was living hand-to-mouth.

When will average Americans figure out these people? They aren’t compassionate. They don’t care about anybody.

They have an agenda of Socialism, Secularism and Totalitarianism.

The Marxists promised people the same things and they fell for it in Russia, China, Cuba, etc.

I always enjoy seeing the dem's charitable giving numbers. They never let me down.

Is it itemized enough to tell us where it went? I am willing to bet that it is all Goodwill donations (used clothes).

Is he so stupid that he forgot that he might for president and have to show his tax return? I think the definition of an "elitist" must include "do as I say, not as I do."

This is what really bothers me about liberals, they want to help, however they always want to do it with other peoples money. My income last year was $86,698.37 Charitable donations 8,900.00 to church, plus another 3,500.00 to other entities. Now I am not trying to pat myself on the back, these are matter of public record. I have a tough time with someone who is always telling me that they are the ones standing up for those in need, but always use someone elses money to make their point. Their help always comes from someone else.

It scales to the state level as well. Blue states (liberals) alway rank at the bottom and red states always rank at the top in terms of average charitable giving.

Our local democrats were featured in the local liberal rag (with photo) because they collected used magazines for the nursing home. They truly considered it charity (and were quite proud).

I like to think of it as Democrat Pattern Contributions (DPC). Similiar to Male Pattern Baldness, there just ain't much there.

Obama's record for charitable contributions reflects that he was a miser until he was elected a U.S. Senator (despite the fact that he lived comfortably). Were I a little more cynical, I might say that he was a miser until he started putting in place his run for the Presidency and realized this would be scrutinized.

His contributions as a percentage of income?

What, not even a five spot to the poor box on communion days? I think he'll be hearing from the Bishop again.

McCain Palin need to make a commercial stating how much money John McCain gave to Charity and how much money Sarah Palin gave to charity and compare those amounts to Obama and Biden.

That would be funny and Very Effective.

We sit in a fairly liberal baptist congregation each Sunday(because we are in a small town with no options), but send our money, elsewhere - where we approve of the mission/agenda. (We do give very, very small amounts to our church to help pay for electricity, etc.)

Obama obviously agrees with Trinity's theology/agenda.

His high IQ is pushing those hair plugs right out of his head.

I think Joe got himself in dutch trying to play Benny Hinn, commanding Chuck to rise out of his wheel chair.

To be truthful, though, I felt sorry for both of them.

Maybe the reason the ‘Rats like to rake in our tax dollars has a lot to do with their own kind. They believe we all can’t be trusted to spend our own money serving the unfortunate, etc. (or serving their causes like PETA, Planned Parenthood, MoveOn.org, etc.) because *they* can’t trust themselves with *their* own money! Stingy, stingy. They aren’t natural-sharers. Unless of course, it’s *our* money.

On a side note, they can do whatever they’d like to - it is their money.

I wouldn’t call it patting yourself on the back. The numbers you gave represent a true tithe and more. Very few give that much even if they are able. You are to be commended.

If the government would get out of our pockets, a lot more of us would be able give as generously - as it should be.

I’d have to say I’m pretty stunned at this.

How a compassionate liberal who we are told is “Catholic” and wants to raise our taxes can only donate $369 to ALL charities per year is rather damn stunning.

My wife and I happily made what for us was a significant donation out of our income back in 2005 to the Alabama State Baptist convention for their Katrina relief fund.

How the heck could our country have “Katrina” and “9-11” and all the charitable appeals resulting from them, and this Biden clown can only open up his heart for $369 dollars a year?!?!
