This one has got to take the cake for stupidity and lack of journalistic integrity. The Old Media has been gyrating in ever widening circles to find new and unheard of ways to destroy Governor Sarah Palin and now from the Hartford Courant (Connecticut) we find the most ridiculous one yet. With this Robert Thorson column we have now gone from slandering Gov. Palin herself, to attacking every last member of her family -- including her Down Syndrome child, Trig -- to this latest stop on the smear Palin express: attacking Palin's hometown Wasilla, Alaska. Thorson seriously tries to make us believe that Wasilla is an "angry" town! Why? Because of its "geography." And because of something that happened in 1976.
Yes, Wasilla is filled with "disappointed" and "angry" people and this is what "scares" Thorson about Governor Sarah Palin. And Thorson knows that everyone in Wasilla is foaming at the mouth mad because of his intimate knowledge of Wasilla and it's people, right? He knows this because of his extensive research into Wasilla's newspapers, or TV reports, or interviews with citizens all of whom are telling him about their mental perturbation, right? Uh, no. He "knows" this because of an Encyclopedia entry and little else.
Thorson gives us the sad tale of a Capitol move gone wrong and posits that this has made Wasilla a town of crazies, losers, and trouble makers, a dangerous place that he obviously thinks might give us a dangerous vice president. Thorson tells us that in 1974 Wasilla was chosen to be Alaska's new capital city because the original capitol, Juneau, is not easily accessible. But the big move ended up not happening because by 1976 the voters of Alaska decided not to foot the one billion dollar price tag to pay for it all...

The attacks are getting increasingly bizarre, too. This so-called journalist is psychoanalyzing an entire community from several thousands miles away, all on the basis of an encyclopedia entry. How in the world does that make sense to anyone but the person writing it?
Yes they keep it coming all the while failing to attack McCain effectively. They must have the Apple commercial guy running their campaign because they just put out a highly ineffective and fairly stupid add hitting McCain on not using computers and tying him to the “80s”. Oh my!
I live in CT and I hate the politics here...Left wing loons of the highest order. There isnt even really a red part of the state anymore.. I wish I could afford New Caanan!
Keep it up idiots.
You’re going to make this easier than we thought.
When I lived in Juneau in 81, they were talking about moving the capitol to Willow. That didn’t happen either, so I guess there’s more than one angry town, eh?
Don’t you know that all of us small town folk across the country are angry and clinging to guns and religion?
There was another Courant hit piece and subsequent thread here on FR earlier this week and I stated I stopped my subscription when they piled on the hate with W back in 2000. I still had my newspaper box in my yard and vowed to remove it in a post on that thread.
Just to let you all know, we had a removal ceremony this week. I’d post a picture but I’m too illiterate (according to Obama) to figure it out.
The Courant is not even worth lining a puppy crate. Probably give it a rash.
Cheers!
There’s no place like Nome.
Old Media has lost control and are now being very open about their true agendas and attitudes. Very reckless. I think a lot of people who used to accept everything they said as true are finally starting to sit up and notice. Maybe.
LMAO!
I did a quick comparison of Wasilla with Hartford:
http://www.city-data.com/city/Wasilla-Alaska.html
http://www.city-data.com/city/Hartford-Connecticut.html
A couple notables:
Hartford: Estimated median household income in 2005: $26,032
Wasilla: Estimated median household income in 2005: $47,900
For population 25 years and over in Hartford
High school or higher: 60.8%
Bachelor’s degree or higher: 12.4%
Graduate or professional degree: 5.2%
Unemployed: 15.9%
For population 25 years and over in Wasilla
High school or higher: 88.8%
Bachelor’s degree or higher: 12.7%
Graduate or professional degree: 5.5%
Unemployed: 11.2%
From 2001-2005 there were 136 Murders in Hartford.
Over the same period in Wasilla there was ONE.
Thorson has been punked. Hartford is a s***hole and Wasilla looks like paradise!
These liberal folks are funny. Angry at Wasilla for not getting with their program, they accuse Wasilla of being “angry”.
If you compared any city that enjoys the blessings of liberalism with any conservative city, you’d probably get the same results.
Indeed! And Thorson also crows in his pathetic bio about how tenure protects him from “political and collegial revenge” - he’s as paranoid as Olbermann! LMAO!!!
Can you send that info to that weasel, I knew he would look like a little tool even before I saw his pic.Send this comment too!
Don’t send it to him (although he is welcome to it), send it along with his article to Malkin or Hannity or Rush!!!
Scorched Earth reporting - the media is losing it.
Hmmmmm....yes, I find that he is certifiably nuts.
The answer is "Yes". It really is hard to believe the animus these big city liberals have for the rest of the country.
The trend is that they’ll be trashing all of Alaska soon, and, eventually, most of America, which is really the essential point.
If Sarah Palin successfully led a town of crazies, losers and trouble makers, then she has some serious leadership skills.
It is the proposed Willow move the guy is talking about. In his article he uses the term “Wasilla area” in order to have some kind of basis for his rant.
Misleading. Whoda thunk?
Connecticut is but a pale shadow of what once was. The blue is the color of hypoxia when all the oxygen is gone.
I live in a college town. Unfortunately guns and religion have little part here...LOL.
Great post. AK is a great place to live. If I wasn’t so old, I’d go. M
I’d go too!!!
Hope Thor Tungsten (or whatever his name is) enjoys his 15 minutes of fame!
I grew up in East Lyme, Connecticut. Later on, I worked in Wasilla, Alaska.
This article is absurd. I wish I could enumerate the errors, but I have a life to lead. One absurdity - the writer claims that many Alaskans seek seccession. I’ve been here for 22 years and I’ve met... none.
In fact, Wasilla and my Connecticut hometown are basically similar, except the scenery in Alaska is more majestic. What a loon.
The MSM liberal media is disgusting. I hope they all go out of business and are purchased by conservatives. I can dream, can’t I?

The Hartford Courant was a great paper when it was INDEPENDENT (and it was a REPUBLICAN PAPER, the old Hartford Times was the Democrat people.), but now when it was bought by the LA Times, it became trash!
