MTV: Where Virgins Go To Die (Ben Shapiro On The Liberal Youth TV Network Alert)

Virginity is hilarious, according to MTV Video Music Awards host Russell Brand. After Brand was done encouraging Americans to vote for Barack Obama because George W. Bush is a "retarded cowboy fellow," he attacked the Jonas Brothers for wearing promise rings, rings intended to demonstrate support for abstinence until marriage.

"I'm beginning to wonder if the Jonas Brothers are quite what they seem," said the freaky-looking, scruffy-haired, tightly-garbed former dope fiend and sex addict. "Because if they were, how come I've got this little ring now?" Brand held up a supposed promise ring. "I mean initially, he was a little reluctant, but eventually he saw it was for the best. And let me tell you, it was an enjoyable and pleasant experience and I wish the rest of the Jonas Brothers the best of luck, because over the course of the evening, I want a collection of these bloody things."

It's always so easy to make fun of teenagers who want to remain abstinent until marriage. They receive the ire of their peers for their scruples. They are pilloried as closet homosexuals, geeks and nerds. It is suggested that they are forfeiting carefree fun in exchange for the drudgery of empty religious standards.

And at the end of the day, those teenagers who do succeed in upholding their standards are, by and large, the happiest people in the world. They don't enter marriage with the baggage of past relationships; they don't get STDs; they don't need abortions or adoptions. They have a lower suicide rate and experience depression less than their peers. They are able to share their first sexual experience with someone they love without fear of abandonment. And they give the greatest gift of all to their spouses -- the gift of their purity, their pre-commitment to the success of their marriage.

It was gratifying, then, when pop star Jordin Sparks, former American Idol winner, stood up to defend abstinence. "I just wanna say, it's not bad to wear a purity ring because not every guy and a girl wants to be a slut, OK?" she said.

Brand was ashamed. He tried to cover that shame with the bravado of the perverse. "'I'd like to take this opportunity to say, no one ever have sex again," he raved. "It's a mad idea. What a way to spend an evening!"

Brand's obscene performance thrilled the critics. "Russell Brand is a bad, bad boy. Thank the punk saints for that!" gushed the Los Angeles Times. "Brand's banter, overflowing with outr political statements juvenile sex jokes and relentless mockery of the well-groomed pop stars surrounding him, was totally, deliriously in the spirit of transgressive rock and roll." "Many commentators," noted Entertainment Weekly, "thought Brand was hilarious and spoke truth to power."

Of course, all of this is utterly predictable. MTV has a tremendous stake in the increased promiscuity of American teenagers -- that promiscuity allows them to purvey their pornography on the airwaves without fear of public backlash. If teenagers were abstinent, parents would surely rebel against MTV's poisonous filth. But by pushing slutty behavior, they inure parents to the inherent risks of degrading material. After all, if Johnny is already having sex, what does it matter whether he watches Britney kiss Madonna on MTV?

It is past time for parents to turn off MTV. Yet MTV continues to thrive. That continued success highlights our current cultural divide. Religious parents have already turned off MTV; secular parents allow their kids to watch it. There's only one problem: Unless religious parents enter into the public debate, they allow the public square to be dominated by filth. They allow the Russell Brands of the world to win. And while the media celebrates, traditional morality crumbles.

MTV - the liberal youth TV network that sneers at traditional values and sexual modesty. The Richard Brands of the world wouldn't be allowed to offend Americans if more social conservatives stood up to them. The culture needs to be reclaimed for families and faith, not allowed to remain an outlet for debauchery and and the coarsening of our culture. We can say enough is enough to that - and to MTV, too.

"Where virgins go to die"

No sweat. They're scheduled to throw the switch on that Super Collider thingy at 12:15 AM PDT. And for some reason, no one is allowed in the tunnel. 2 hrs 55 min and counting.

Why do the cable companies force us to have MTV?

Give cable customers a choice and MTV is history.

What utter BS. I didn't watch the show, but from reports it sounds like the essence of conformity.

Liberals are herd animals. What's funny is they think all conservatives are exactly alike!

No, Agitator, but speaking as a parent, it certainly isn't helpful to the cause.

You know, Parents should start taking responsibility for their children - that used to be a conservative value. This place is quickly becoming as permissive as the DUmmies site.

I saw a clip of this guy on FOX. What a sleazy looking little weasel he is. The boy is a real mess. He came across to me as though he wasn’t right in the head.

I'm perfectly happy to take responsibility for my children. I'm also happy if the flow of societal sewage stops towards all the other children who will influence the world in which we live. You seem to have a problem with that.

This place is quickly becoming as permissive as the DUmmies site.

Yeah, especially when people bend over backwards to have a hissy-fit when someone dares to point out that MTV certainly doesn't promote any conservative (or redeeming) values.

This is precisely one of the major reasons I canceled my Entertainment Weekly subscription nearly six years ago: They not only showed their political bias but the pro Homosexual agenda was shoved in readers' faces on a regular basis.

Shapiro left out one of Brand's most specious slanders towards Sarah Palin, her daughter Bristol and boyfriend Levi Johnston - perhaps due to rage and disgust. In any case, he is spot on about MTV, Paramount, and Viacom, the corporate entity that owns this crass and classless 'music' channel. As I mentioned before, it makes me all the more happier that I no longer shell out $50 + dollars to Cox Communications to pump this bilge into my home.

The show is rank. It truly is. Condom companies probably invest heavily in it but the cheap commentary, the surly poses makes it for more than unwholesome watching. I almost want to wretch went I see it. I think could they not have a musical genius on that show for once to to show what excellence and greatness is all about. They exposes kids to crass stupidity and tell them this is great, marvelous, wondrous to behold or listen to. The kids can't really say it's not anything because their coolness dries up, they get scared or they just don’t know better. It's not balanced commentary — like watching Olbermann in a bath tub and while Matthews is shaving his legs... toilet humor. Unbalanced infantile moronic banter that trains the kiddies to become unhinged Democrats in the end. If they had some real circus clowns and a horse show kids would actually tune in and love it. But no. Not to happen soon. MTV is like that piece of garbage that is trapped in your sink drain and it is blocking every thing up. Well, that's what garbage does and that's how kids minds are being filled with crap and nothing good can get in. Even the Mickey Mouse Club is bad with those French kissing skanks Mad Cow Madonna and the other two girly sex bunny (your crotch is showing, again) twits. I blame the sponsors and parents. It's really that terrible.

Promiscuity tends to deaden sex to just the mechanical aspects as a side “benefit”

Brand's imploring the audience to “please please vote for Obama because the world needs him” gives great insight into the types of people that support “the messiah”. Hopefully there will be enough sane Americans voting against Obama’s “We are the World” socialism to send a strong message to the left to crawl back into their holes. Perhaps Barack can run for president of Europe and make the world happy. I hope he takes the U.N. with him when he does.

Teenagers have always had sex against the wishes of their parents. But it wasn't celebrated or the cultural norm.
Surely you are intelligent enough to have two ideas in your head. Or have relativists infected this site?

Paris Hilton, of all people, criticized Russell Brand over his remarks.

If Paris Hilton thinks you are offensive, then you really are offensive beyond words.
