COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The banners, buttons and signs say McCain-Palin, but the crowds say something else.
"Sa-rah! Pa-lin!" came the chant at a Colorado Springs rally on Saturday moments before Republican nominee John McCain took the stage with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a woman who was virtually unknown to the nation just a week earlier. The day before, thousands screamed "Sa-rah! Sa-rah! Sa-rah!" at an amphitheater outside Detroit.
"Real change with a real woman," read one sign at a Wisconsin rally. "Hurricane Sarah leaves liberals spinning," cried another.

"She's the draw for a lot of people," said Marilyn Ryman, who came to see her at the Colorado rally inside an airport hangar. "The fact that she's someone new, not the old everything we've seen before."
McCain has sought to portray Palin as a bulldog who will help him "shake things up" on Capitol Hill.
Washington, he said Saturday, is "going to get to know her, but I can't guarantee you they'll love her."
"We do!" came a cry from the crowd.
At a rally in Albuquerque later, McCain acknowledged the juice she has injected into his campaign.
"The response to her has been overwhelming, it's been incredible," he said.
Perhaps recognizing the excitement she is generating, the McCain campaign was planning to keep Palin with McCain for several more days, rather than dispatch her to campaign by herself, as had initially been discussed.
On Saturday, McCain and Palin rode their post-convention wave into the competitive West, where Democrats have made recent gains in traditional Republican strongholds.

All of these people (there and everywhere else that they go) will go back to their relatives, friends, neighbors, and spread the enthusiasm over this ticket, and the ‘MO will keep going.

I get to see them Monday!
Come January, I hope McCain remembers who pulled his chestnuts out of the fire ...
SARAH!!
She’s a rock star, and the best rock star we’ve had in a long time.
Careful gentleman, let us not make her a superstar, that is the game the media machine wants us to play. Sarah is enjoying this support because she is emblematic of the millions of strong Republican women who are the heart of the party, and the soul of this Nation. These women are the stars. I’ll bet you know some Baracudas of your own.

"emperor" Trajan88 gives it a thumb's up ;-)
No, you’re wrong.
Sarah wasn’t running for president and she wouldn’t have gotten the nomination if she had been.
People realize now that McCain was the right guy for the nomination because he had the courage and maverick streak to select Sarah, and they compliment each other as no-nonsense reformers.
Mitt Romney wouldn’t have picked Sarah Palin, neither would have Fred Thompson or Mike Huckabee.
John McCain is our guy, in part because Sarah Palin is his gal.
I’ve been keeping track of our oh so fair media...they do not want to be on the losing side....the tide is starting to turn...NObama is starting to get scrutinized, watch a total media meltdown come next week.
Is that in Lees Summit, Missouri? Kewl.
Yes, my mom (passed away in 1996) was one!!
Your correct. Somehow making her out as a rock star or super star makes her superficial. It undermines her message which is all about integrity and reform.
I believe it is gonna work out just fine. She will do well and McCain's understudy and energy czar. The she will be up for 8 more years after McCain along with someone like Gov Jindal.
We can really thank McCain for this AND the judges this will reap.
Is it any wonder the leftists are in such hysterics about this?
I never heard that here. If anything it confirms McCain's good judgement.
You think Maverick and the Barracuda are having some fun these days?
At the conclusion on Lincoln’s political career, Edwin M. Stanton observed, “Now he belongs to the ages.” At the commencent of Governor Palin’s national political career, it is safe to say, “Now she belongs to the American people.”
Indeed! Picking Palin has brought the Media full circle. Now the hypocritical wagging finger is pointing at them.
I saw John smiling like I've never seen him before on that final night of the convention. Yep - they're jazzed!
Well said!
Here’s a nice song to cheer up the bam-bots:
“New Kid In Town”
[The Eagles]
Theres talk on the street, it sounds so familiar.
Great expectations, everybodys watching you.
People you meet they all seem to know you,
Even your old friends treat you like youre something new.
Johnny-come-lately, the new kid in town,
Everybody loves you, so dont let them down.
You look in her eyes, the music begins to play.
Hopeless romantics, here we go again.
But after a while youre looking the other way.
Its those restless hearts that never mend.
Johnny-come-lately, the new kid in town,
Will she still love you when youre not around?
Theres so many things you should have told her
But night after night youre willing to hold her,
Just hold her tears on your shoulder.
Theres talk on the street, its there to remind you
That it doesnt really matter which side youre on.
Youre walking away and theyre talking behind you.
They will never forget you till somebody new comes along.
Where you been lately? theres a new kid in town.
Everybody loves him, dont they? now hes holding her
And youre still around, oh my my.
Theres a new kid in town,
Just another new kid in town.
Oo-hoo, everybodys talking bout the new kid in town.
Oo-hoo, everybodys walking like the new kid in town.
Theres a new kid in town I dont want to hear it
Theres a new kid in town I dont want to hear it
Theres a new kid in town
Theres a new kid in town
Theres a new kid in town everybodys talking
Theres a new kid in town people started walking
Theres a new kid in town
Theres a new kid in town
It's not hypocritical when it's pointing at them. It's accurately pointing at the source of biased reporting and falsehoods.
Or did you mean hypercritical?
Here's her theme song:
With apologies to Kim Carnes--Bette Davis Eyes
Her words are solid gold
Her lipstick is nice
Her actions always bold
She's got Ronald Reagan eyes
And she'll tease them,
She'll unease them
all the better, she'll displease them
She's precocious
And she knows just what to do to make a foe hush.
She's got lines to deflate
all those lies,
she got
Ronald Reagan eyes.
“Ill bet you know some Baracudas of your own.”
She is the validation that women like myself [and most of my friends] have been waiting for all of our lives.
We all had family/society ragging us because we were “not like normal women”.
We preferred worn-out jeans and t shirts to fancy dresses, pistols to Barbie dolls, riding horses to hanging out at the mall, shooting empty pop cans to painting our nails, bailing hay and cleaning barns to fancy dress affairs, didn’t care if our nails were “dirty”, short and ragged or if our hair was long, wild, unstyled and tangled by tree branches as we ran untamed through the wilderness. [be it literal or figurative]
All of us who were told to sit down and shut up when we questioned the status quo because it wasn’t “lady like” to protest the blatant BS we are handed daily.
She is a nexus for *all* the “women who run with wolves”.
She will become iconic.
I enjoyed seeing that one again. Kim Carnes was seriously hot...and that voice. Maybe she would be interested in filling in as Governor of Alaska? There is going to be an opening soon.
I loved her voice...and Bonnie Tyler's...all the gravelly “whiskey and barbed wire” female singers.
Janis Joplin is another favorite.
*Squeaky* female vocalists always annoyed me no end.
You sound a lot like my younger sister. She was a conflicted child at the age of 12. For Christmas that year, she got a Barbie doll and Daisy BB gun!
She is well over 50 now, raised two kids pretty much on her own, very much a lady, but TOUGH AS NAILS!
All my female family members (I have one of those HUGE southern families) are very excited about Sarah!
For my “Sweet 16” birthday, my dad bought me a .410 shotgun.
My mother was not amused.
Ironically, she now tells the story of the time I picked a barn rat off of the backyard burn barrel at 100 yards with it.
Not only was I “conflicted” as a child, the things that she was ashamed of me doing then, she brags on now.
[talk about surrealistic!]
My dad was a career prison guard and he would go to work and regale the inmates with my latest Annie Oakley-esque adventure every night.
[these tales of wonder, mind you, were the very deeds I’d gotten in big trouble at home for doing, in the first place]...:))
One evening, I stopped in to visit him at work release and inmates came running from everywhere, just to get a glimpse of “The Legend”.....LOL
[all I heard in the background was “It’s HER! It’s HER!!]
Imagine their surprise when, instead of some terrifying Valkyrie, in walks a puny little 5’ 3”, 105 pound runt.
I think I became even more “legendary” because of that since dad said the ‘white noise’ regarding me got to be so intense I was ordered never to show up there, again.
[he was concerned for my safety because they were, after all, in there for crimes and would someday get *out*]
So...did your sister shoot the Barbie with the BB gun?....:)
and energy
Just saying that the media's finger is pointing back at themselves now. Thanks for letting me clarify.
“..So...did your sister shoot the Barbie with the BB gun?....:)...”
No, she shot me a couple of times though.
She hung out with me all my friends until puberty. (Momma kept a close reign on her after that). We roamed the woods and swamps, fished, camped, swam, all the usual kid stuff common in the early 60s south.
Sarah is enjoying this support because she is very frank about her across the board socially conservative views and doesn’t parse it....just like Rush says...run as a social conservative, don’t run from it
This is not about gender except to those who like to make it about gender to suit her own ends.
We alpha males out here who have flocked to her of course note her beauty (gorgeous) and charisma but we like her for what she says and does.
Folks try to make this a validation of fembotism at their peril.
“No, she shot me a couple of times though.”
Ya gotta to learn to move fast or you’re not long around....:))
Sounds like my life.
I hung out with mostly with my cousin Russ who was a star in the local Pony/Little league.
We’d play baseball and I had to learn *fast* because he never cut me any slack for being younger or a girl.
[but if I hit it hard enough to go into the cow pasture, he’d always make me go find and fetch the ball...shouldn’t I have been *rewarded*, instead?]...LOL
Years later in high school, the girl’s softball team kept ragging me to “officially” join because I had a wicked sidearm pitch and could bat extremely well, generally line-driving the pitcher about head-height which always made her hit the deck out of fear.
I never took them up on it because it was *soft*ball, fer cryin’ out loud.
If they’d had girl’s baseball...well, mebbe.
:))
She’s not a “fembot”....she’s what a real woman should be.
Pioneer women did and farm women still do “man’s work” every day and never even blink.
It was just what you did to survive and you made no fuss and took no notice.
That’s her real appeal.
One of the funniest “feminist slam” bumper stickers I ever saw was on the truck of a farm gal who runs a feed store near here.
“You wear boots and drive a truck? Oh, how cute!”
Yes they are having fun!
(It really is hard work,— travel, time away from home and family, commitments and schedules that Sen McCain and Gov Palin and their loved ones are going thru. It can’t be easy.)
If that isn’t putting Country First...!
True, to an extent. The reason people like Palin is that she's a real, down to earth woman who can rise to the occasion.
Unfortunately, the way our current system is configured, you need to have what I'll generously call 'major mental health issues' in order survive the two year gauntlet of running for President. Palin is not an egomanic like, well, the other three people on the ticket. She's just who she is. Normal people are not going to go through two years of running for President.
Now, two MONTHS, sure, why not?
Anyway, the idea of putting someone halfway normal in the White House is a lot more appealing than putting in someone who's eyes blink open in the morning, and who's first waking thought is 'I should be President'.
It's like the old line about replacing Congress with the first 500 names in the phone book. Americans just distrust career politicians, and deep down, crave someone normal.
I have never ever said Plain is a fembot....never.
My posts on Sarah Palin have been the most adoring I have ever posted about any politician in my life.
I think she may be the future redeemer for conservatism in my last decades of life.
I totally eschew feminism as expressed by most folks and view Sarah Palin as obviously a beautiful woman but I love what she says and obviously stands for. It mirrors my own.
I am a 50 year old alpha male chauvinist and make no apologies. I think Sarah is exceptional....very much so but the vindication of anything remotely feminist hs no play in this whatsoever for me nor the scores of men just like me I know personally who are enraptured with her.
I'm from Mississippi, we have women there who can hunt, skin animals, defend the home and still wear war paint, Manolos and Fogal hosiery and know how to slink into those Cosabella undies just right.
and I think Sarah has all that down too...
Being strong and retaining femininity and rejecting victimhood and identity politics is what makes her special aside from her pure embrace of the right side of the culture war.
hell, I wish she were Queen.
hyperbole aside....her views on abortion, guns, and God are 24 carat gold to this old right wing father of 5, son of the South.
and like I said....I do not know one man like me who doesn't swoon over her....hell, I got teary eyed when she brought her Downs child onstage.
like Rush said it doesn't get any better than this but it's no woman issue...at least not for me or her to hear her talk.
if we ever have a black, hispanic_____fill in blank, person elected, it should be the same criteria
She part tom boy, part PTA mom, part cougar.
This isn’t going to be about the womens vote; Mccain’s male vote is going to go up even more I bet.
WHOA.
but McCain is our candidate......
he has shown wisdom and insight hasn't he, in naming Gov. Palin?.....
Yep i will be there
Do you really want a VP who is against all forms of contraception, anti-labor, believes you can "pray for a gay" and change them into a heterosexual, is married to a guy who wants to secede from the USA, whose daughter is a seventeen year old slut, who endangered her unborn baby, who hired a lobbyist for pork from Washington for her town as mayor, and is governor of a state with a smaller population than most cities in the US! She's unqualified for God sake to operated the asshole on an elephant. Who the hell is McCain kidding? Except maybe yourself? Love ya Bro, Bob
From the keyboard of a loving, compassionate, inclusive democrat. Don't ya just feel the love?
Just read this gem on RATS underground - (edits are mine) -
It's time to throw the kitchen sink. NOW.
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 01:33 PM by backscatter712
Yeah. Hillary's strategy.
We need to be throwing every last molecule of sh** we've got at McCain and Palin.
Stop paying even an ounce of respect to them. They've proved they don't deserve it.
Demonize them. Dehumanize them.
Stop with the obligatory respectful nods to McCain's service and time in the Hanoi Hilton and start calling him Wetstart and Songbird.
And the Wicket *itch of the North already has so many scandals that a hundred million in ads over the remaining weeks of election season should utterly destroy her.
Why do we insist on being the nice guys? That gets our a$$es kicked by those bullying Rethug pieces of sh** every time!
HURT THEM!!! NOW!!!
