If National Review Online could be remembered for contributing one thing to the 2008 presidential election, it might as well be this line from Sarah Palins speech: I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities.
That devastating line that cuts to the heart of Barack Obamas lack of experience for the presidency was cribbed from NROs own Jim Geraghty. The line was so effective that a day later its still causing conniption fits among the Left.

No, what seems wrong is that anyone running for president would pad their résumé by describing one of their indeterminate career periods with the bizarre left-wing appellative community organizer. Obamas time working in Chicago housing projects following his college years may have been driven by noble intentions. Its just that noble intentions arent a qualification to be president.
Obama spent three years in housing projects in Chicago and according to his book, Dreams of My Father even he couldnt explain what he was doing. When classmates in college asked me just what it was that a community organizer did, I couldnt answer them directly, Obama wrote. Indeed, who could say what a community organizer does? The Obama campaign sent out an e-mail after the fact: With the nation watching, the Republicans mocked, dismissed, and actually laughed out loud at Americans who engage in community service and organizing. That misses the point. Palin and Giuliani didnt mock people who work for the betterment of their communities. They mocked Obama for embracing the vague title of community organizer, which might as well be the political equivalent of Im working on a screenplay.

Barry's greatest career accomplishment: When classmates in college asked me just what it was that a community organizer did, I couldnt answer them directly.
It’s beginning to look more and more like he padded his citizenship also.
community organizer’’ — You know, like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson..
Community organizer is an easy way of making a livivng off of the impoverished. I’m sure the monies recieved were not only used for good intentions but also a means of support for the titled community organizer. No one is resposible for and held accountable for monies that flow into thier hands.
A true community organizer LIVES in the community he or she serves and does not pull a salary or use the title for political gain. What say Obama?
I guess in Chicago, the equivalent of LA’s “I’m a director/waiter” is “I’m a Community Organizer—but I’m really a President.”
I am thinking of developing this as a vanity/opinion letter to the editor but here goes my outline....
There should be some measurable goals we could review. Most community organizations working in impovershed neighborhoods have a mission and there are measurable outcomes. Let’s take an easy one. Say a young man or woman worked for Habitat for Humanity. They would be able to say they secured X dollars in fundraising, negotiated supply contracts that saved the group Y dollars, recruited z number of volunteers, worked on a team that increased the numbers of houses built per annum.
I believe anyone that worked in a homeless shelter, on an adult literacy project, with a job training program, with immigrants who are adjusting and trying to obtain legal visas would have some type of quantifiable results.
I think community organizing means organizing people to mau mau the government to give them more free stuff. The only ways communities improve is when businesses move in and provide jobs. Of course, if you’ve been told by people like Obama that the best path to increasing prosperity is through government you will sit around waiting for a handout. This is what Obama wants for the entire country.
community organizer = community trouble maker
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

That covers it.
Community Organizer
Soon to become a degree program at Harvard and other Ivy League schools.
I'll give it a stab: Marxist political agitation and propaganda?
He could but wouldn't.
Community organizers are like union organizers in a sense:
1.they promote and teach in the housing projects the art of protesting. How to shake fists and intimidate in hearings and rallies, what to say, how to make signs, etc.
2. organize block captains, hand out walking money, assure the areas they work vote solid Democrat.
This type of pushing leftist and anarchist activities in urban areas has been going on for a number of years, and is funded by tax dollars.
Obama wasn't a "community organizer;" he was a community disorganizer. His job was to stir up resentment and encourage identity politics that teaches loyalty to racial and ethnic groups but disloyalty to state and country. Remember the Berlin speech. He wants to be a "citizen of the world" not a citizen of the Untited States.
He keeps talking about ‘out-of-work steel workers who have lost their jobs’.
Several questions have I!
Are there, or were there steel mills in South Chicago?
Would a community oganizer bring the out of work together to build a new steel mill?
Would he hire them for some other job, like a community organizer?
Community Organizer seems to be an voter registration agent on steroids.
So, how are the communities that Barrack organized doing these days? Are they empowered?
“Community organizer” formerly known as “rabble rouser”
And now known as a $h!t disturber.
The author says that the line was cribbed from NRO’s Jim Geraghty.
I call bullsh!t. If you read Geraghty’s short note, he clearly ASKS for it to be used, and calls it a suggestion! I wouldn’t call that cribbing.
Yes. There were several large steel mills in Chicago and it was close to the US Steel mills in Gary, although most had already been closed and severely scaled back by the 90's
No, That's what I want to know is how did he help these people
He wrote a pamphlet called “Mau Mau’ing for Dummies”.
Its kind of long and kind of boring in places but it also has some interesting information too.
