Three celebrity weeklies OK!, People and Us Weekly featured Sarah Palin on their cover, but one of those magazines is reportedly losing subscribers because of it.
Us Weekly, which unlike People and OK!, chose a rather caustic cover line (Babies, Lies and Scandal) is said to have lost thousands of subscribers in just the first 24 hours following the printing of the issue.
Im hearing its 5,000, maybe more, says one well-placed source in the industry. Another source claimed that as many as 10,000 readers have already cancelled their subscriptions. A spokesperson for Wenner Media, which publishes Us, says it is completely false that we are losing 10,000 subscribers. As for the 5,000 estimate, the spokesperson only said that is false, too, but wouldnt comment further.
Five thousand might not seem like a large number at first glance, but its significant in the context of Us printing schedule. The magazine goes to press Monday night, which means subscribers dont receive their issues until Friday or Saturday. In other words, the cancellations are coming from subscribers who, in many cases, havent even gotten their hands on the actual issue.

Which means they have lost somewhere between 5,001 subscribers and 9,999 subscribers /end Clintonspeak
Wait until they figure in the numbers of impulse buys not made at the check out counter. This will probably mark the least sold copy of their trash.
let it be a wake up call for all those left wing nut job mags and papers.
I couldn’t believe my ears when FOX had this guy on from US and he said it was well balanced mag and it only put in accurate words.
Either the guy thinks we’re all thick or he is just so blinded by his politics he can’s see straight
This is a huge opportunity for another magazine to pick up subscribers by treating Gov. Palin well. There’s lots of competition in this market. Yesterday’s players are today’s legacy has-beens.
When I was a kid, “Saturday Review,” “Look” and “Life” were up there. “Inside Sports” wanted to be “People” for Sports. Even “Good Housekeeping” isn’t what it used to be.
Come on America. Appeal to decent behavior and dump US Weakly.
People are sick of smear campaigns.
The Left will never understand real Americans. They are just not ont he same planet as us.
My only thought on this subject is why were these people wasting their time and money on this trash in the first place?
PUSH BACK BUMP!!
Keep up the emails!
Keep nailing the ADVERTISRES!!!
When I was in the check-out line in Publix (grocery store) yesterday after work, there was not an “US” magazine anywhere around. I had to chuckle to myself. We DO have a voice, and it’s time people out there realized it.
Smart business, huh?
Sell a bunch of magazines today, lose a ton of subscriptions, tomorrow.
Good!! I hope the liberal slime bass-turds go under, but quick.
I was at the grocery store last night.
The tabloids were all lined up where people pretty much HAVE to see the covers while they wait in line. Yes, people were looking.
US Weekly- Palin’s picture holding baby Trig with headline “Sex Lies and Pregnancy”
National Enquirer- Palin’s picture with headline “Secret Affair that almost ruined her career”
Tabloid 3 (dk title)- Obama’s picture with wife and kids- headline “Life with My Girls!”
I was so disgusted I almost dumped my groceries.
Maybe they were all sold out? That’s a possibility too.
Or 20,000. If you listened to the head editor of US Weekly try defend it against Megyn Kelly you would know that they are terrible liars and distortionists.
this piece of filth that masquerades as a magazine is another of Jann Wenner’s successful attempts at Un-American crappola. I wouldn’t never have subscribed to it for me to have to cancel it, But I am glad to see that is going to lose money as a result of its blatantly politicizing a ‘news’ story.
The stunt which US editors and owners are trying to pull is nefarious and you can read the story on rushlimbaugh.com. On questioning the owner admits that the “lies” part of the cover title intends lies directed AT Palin and not originating with her. Of course, somebody looking at the cover of the thing at WalMart or their grocery store counter will not likely open the thing to read that and the impression it gives is totally false.
I am so clumsy. I was in the checkout line at Schnuck’s supermarket last night and spilled my double latte. It ran all over the rack of magazines that just happened to hold about 20 copies of US Weekly. I just don’t have the grip strength I used to before my surgery.
The cashier was so sweet. She said, “Oh don’t worry about it, sir. We understand.” (Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.)
Maybe what we need to do when we see that is make major scenes, i.e. sit there and scream at the checker or lay hold of the entire stack of Us mags and tear them all up right there.
Ya know, the checkers are not responsible here
They are exactly the kind of hard working single Mom type women who Sarah Palin understands, I would not scream or embarrass them or hold up the line
But spilling latte while glancing at the magazine rack....hmmm, I can get so clumsy sometimes
What you could have done is pretending to read them, and when nobody see put them with the back cover up.
wait until the magazine is hidden by Palin supporters at stores.
“Maybe they were all sold out? Thats a possibility too.”
That’s true. I hope they were just removed by management.
The question is, what is the loss of 5,000 - 10,000 subscribers against the total percentage of US Weekly subscibers? For all we know, we could be talking about a percentage loss of 1%, .5% or 10%.
A 10% drop in subscription sales won’t be enough to put the magazine under because the marketing execs know that if they put a more interesting cover on their next edition, impulse buyers will make up the difference!
Grocery store tabloids consume too much shelf space, IMO, in the checkout stand. Between the physically unhealthy junk food that occupy those shelves and the mentally unhealthy tabloid junk, going to the grocery store checkout stand is comparable to walking a gauntlet of smokers 100 ft. long standing outside the doors breathing their poisonous pollution. What’s the difference? Going to the grocery store checkout stand is one more necessary evil.
Good for you. At my library, I consistently turn leftist books to the back when they are in the featured section up front. Sometimes I am even so helpful as to reshelve them someplace appropriate.
Now go after their advertisers. Write letters and tell them that if they continue to advertise, we will stop buying their goods and services.
I wonder if any actual individuals subscribe to that loathesome rag. I’ve never seen it anywhere except in waiting rooms.
People still READ magazines? That’s hard to believe. I haven’t subscribed to any magazines for years - wading through the ever increasing advertising became too tedious.
I’m amazed that anyone with enough sense to be offended by the Palin cover would be dumb enough to subscribe to that rag in the first place. Celebrity gossip?? Who the hell wants to waste precious time on earth with that meaningless crap?
Buy the book about her:
Then you are no better than the Code Pinkos who interrupted the Convention speeches.
“The Left will never understand real Americans. They are just not ont he same planet as us.”
Sigh. I WISH.
:-)
Check out what the PUMAs are doing:

One of them actually complained to the store manager and got the magazine taken off. And looks like others intend to follow......

In another thread, a fellow Freeper suggested turning the magazine around, so as not to see the front cover, just as you suggested! I did just that in two of the racks that had US Magazine displayed! :-)
When you see that awful rag in the store, turn it around.
The worst journalism ever witnessed in a presidential campaign.
I went to work at Wal-Mart last night. I didn’t see any Palin magazines yet. Maybe they are being put on the stands today. Then my moronic co-workers might figure out who she is.
There was a post here at FR this week re-guarding boycott the product and its’ sponsor. My re. was, “it will work”. And it will work, seems this is the only way to get their attention.
When you see that awful rag in the store, turn it around.
My wife, a naturalized US citizen, does this in the doctor and dentist offices all the time. In fact, she throws them in the trash. My wife appreciates being a US citizen and does her part. OK. It’s just a small part. But it sure makes her feel better.
WHo was the author of that trashy story anyways?
bump
Or 10,001 or more.
Fox news is reporting that Oprah is balking at putting Gov Sarah Palin on her show. Funny that one of the top rated TV female oriented talk shows wouldn’t want to put on one the countries most popular females. Why because she is a republican white female that may upstage even Oprah herself.
Sounds a little racist to me!
They need to get hammered just like US Rag
LOL.
I almost wish my family had been subscibers just so I could have the pleasure of canceling my subscription.
I already cancelled my Rolling Stone subscription (for similar reasons) 15 years ago.
Sadly, I don’t think many Palin supporting women had a subscription to this rag.
Uhhhh, I think he was neuter when he got there.
That's the scumbag that Megyn Kelly dismantled. He got caught in his lie and tried to spin his way out of it.
yes that’s right
Kelly never relented and made him look like an idiot , just been reported on FOX that the boss of CBS has said that he believes they did nothing wrong.
They then had that Beckel(sp) guy on saying the same
but when a woman said since when did Obama get asked is he a good father because he is away from his kids or should he run for President because he has kids Beckel (sp) never had an answer.
Ironic isn’t it that the liberals believe only FOX ism biased and yet non liberals including some dems and most in dependants believe it is.
