Female Terror Suspect Angry Over Strip Searches

A woman prisoner accused of supporting al Qaeda skipped her federal court hearing Thursday because she did not want to be stripped searched, her lawyer said.

Aafia Siddiqui is currently being held at the metropolitan Detention Center on charges she tried to shoot U.S. soldiers and FBI agents in Afghanistan. Officials said strip searches are mandatory for all high-risk prisoners before they are transported from their cell to another location.

"She's a mess your honor," said defense lawyer Elizabeth Fink about her client's medical and psychological condition and her absence from court. Fink reminded Judge Richard Berman that her client is recovering from gunshot wounds. Investigators said she was shot while in custody after she grabbed a soldier's rifle and opened fire.

FBI agents have described Siddiqui, an MIT graduate, as a facilitator for al Qaeda. Court records alleged she had maps of New York City landmarks including Times Square when she was captured in Afghanistan over the summer.

And now she is angry she has to be stripped searched...

Aren’t all American citizens obliged to undergo strip-searches, if necessary? What are her grounds for refusal?

Officials said she traveled from the U.S. to Pakistan in 2003 at a time she was wanted for questioning

I would love to hear how that happened. And how did she get back in without a flag?

I wasn't aware that being strip searched is optional... call me crazy but I don't want that woman in court unless I know she doesn't have any weapons on her...

"defense lawyer Elizabeth Fink"

What an appropriate name for some scum-sucking shyster who'd defend this POS.

“What are her grounds for refusal?”

Because she is Muslim and she knows that she has special privileges that others don’t have.

Fink wrote the court that her injuries make strip searches "quite painful for her to bend over, squat and cough. In addition ... it is against her religious beliefs to strip naked in front of strangers." Her lawyer said she is also having difficulty communicating directly with her client.

Oh well, boo-hoo. Maybe she should have thought of that before she grabbed a rifle and tried to shoot people.

Lucky she’s still alive after pulling crap like that.

I’d say strip search her every day until she shuts up about being pissed off about it.

She’s muzz. They think they are special and exempt from all laws except sharia. I’m sure this woman would prefer being beheaded or stoned to death rather than have to undress in front of some infidel. We should agree to her wishes and lop off her head or toss her in a pit and dump rocks on her.

The religion of peace of course. Anytime she's removed from her cell and transported out of whatever facility she's in, she'll have to submit to a strip search. She'll play games and use her religion whenever she can because she thinks it will make things difficult for her jailers. Hey, who cares if she isn't in court when she's arraigned? Tried? Sentenced? It's her choice. She's actually doing the staff a favor, plus saving on the use of manpower that would have to be sent to accompany her.

Actually, I’d assume it would be more trouble for the court to try her in absentia then to try her at her scheduled appearance.

Well, no ... she's actually kinda cute, if you ignore the fact that she's a murderous salamikaze.

I could see her point if I thought it were men doing the strip searches, I’m sure the strip searches are performed by women guards. She has no religious modesty to fall back on.

That's the court's problem to deal with. If she refuses to submit to the necessary strip-searches, physical force won't be used to make her comply. She either accepts the same procedures applied to all other inmates, or she doesn't go anywhere. Female officers are available to do the searches. Her argument isn't legitimate. I'm wondering if she'll be held in contempt if she chooses not to comply in the future. Now if the court decides to let her get away with this, and holds her hearings via satellite TV, then they'll be creating an even bigger problem for themselves down the road.

Leave her in the cell until she agrees to the search. If she never agree to the search, she never leaves the cell.
