Romney Not Interested In Cabinet Post
WBZ ^ | 9/2/08 | Jon Keller

Romney also said if McCain is elected, he has absolutely no interest in a cabinet post. His father George, who lost the 1968 Republican nomination to Richard Nixon, ended up as Nixon's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development.

"I actually saw my dad serve as a cabinet secretary," Romney said. "One thing I know is, that's not a job I'd want. It's not a job I'd take."

"My dad found that he was being ordered around by the White House and a bureaucracy inside his own department that was hard to move. It's not for me."

Can't hold a mover and shaker down. I wonder what he'll do now. I hope he continues to help the GOP and remain a player for 2012.

Business and economic policy advisor would be a good role for him.

GLOVES OFF
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney may be putting on a brave face for the cameras after losing out to Gov. Sarah Palin for the veepship, but his ever-loyal cadre of aides and consultants and conservative media types continue to work for him.

Almost every critical remark made about Palin on a recent briefing call about her selection came from political consultants with ties to Romney. Those comments were planted, says one, because they knew that reporters would be on the call.

I would love for him to get his own conservtive show on Fox News...something to replace Greta or Geraldo or even Bill O’Reilly. He would be outstanding as a role model and speaker for the conservative movement.

Hey, Mitt's just trying to do to the national GOP what he did to the Massachusetts GOP--destroy it.

Agree.

Biden has always said, too, that he would never accept the VP slot. (Didn't Romney say the same thing a few months ago?).

This takes Romney off the hook, if he is NOT offered a Cabinet post. If offered, I bet he would take it.

I agree. Of course all the haters are saying all the expected things. It is beyond their ability to behave with civility so of course they are unable to recognize classy behavior in others.

I remain extremely proud of my candidate but at the same time, like Mitt, whole-heartedly support Gov. Palin as the VP nominee.

He already has said on Ingraham’s show today that he plans on staying active in advancing conservative issues for the Republican party. I believe him. He could have done a Hillary and went off to lick his wounds when he lost, but he’s been actively campaigning for McCain.

He probably isn't interested. He understands how the private sector works and can make more money there.

However, if he is called on to lend his expertise to a cabinet post, he probably will.

Compare and contrast a competent adult who doesn't seek adulation and position to that of an adolescent like Hucksterbee who needs the limelight as badly as the Hollywood crowd.

Romney is a very talented man, but apparently lacking in good character. Obviously he could have delayed making these comments until they were relevant late in November. The fact that he didn’t makes him look like a sour-grapes loser of the worst sort.

We don’t need people whose idea of a great policy is one like that “RomneyCare” fiasco in Massachusetts.
What a nightmare it would be to have something like that on a national scale!

Seems like more and more people are just plain nasty these days.

I think that is especially true of people who can hide behind the anonymity of the internet. I live in a small town and people are so incredibly kind here. Part of that is because we were raised to behave with civility but part of it also has to do with the fact we all shop at the same stores, eat at the same burger joint and service each others homes and businesses. Our children grew up together and played on the same teams.

I think this is part of why Gov. Palin has an 80% approval rating in Alaska, which is made up of many small communities like the one in which I live.

Urban dwellers and internet posters are not held personally accountable when they say or do cruel things. Here in small town America we have accountability.

As much as McCain wants to change Washington, maybe he would give Romney marching orders to fix whatever department he assigns him.

McCain may become the nightmare of the clogged bureaucracy in Washington.

I am friends with people of all types, with different opinions and backgrounds and we routinely and robustly disagree about most things but we never make the attacks personal and hateful in a manner that is demonstrated routinely on the internet. I am especially disappointed in self-described conservatives who behave in such an impolite fashion.

I can only hope that these people behave in a more respectable manner in person than they do here on Free Republic.

Thank you for posting this. Had pretty much figured it out last night from some comments of his supporters trashing her on here.

Why would Sen McCain want Romney near the White House? He tried to undermine Sen McCain every step of the way and then wanted to be VP. Guess he couldn’t buy the VP slot either. Republicans don’t need their own flip flopper and yes I am getting ready for the 2012 race when Romney tries to buy the race again but it won’t happen. Too many people will know all about him by then thanks to people like Huckabee who had him pegged and stayed in the race to block Romney. Thanks Gov Huckabee.

He’s through.

That’s the end of GOP politics for him. He burned his last bridge.

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A small cabal of Republican delegates from Utah are threatening to hold open the national roll call vote for John McCain while officials take a head count of the state's support for various candidates -- which could yield a few votes for Mitt Romney or Ron Paul.

" Talking to reporters after the breakfast, Romney said "no thanks" to a 2012 run for the presidency. "I do not anticipate doing it again," he said, noting that he also wasn't interested in a Cabinet spot in a McCain administration.

He gave no hints of what he would do now besides stumping for McCain and other Republican candidates. Romney launched a political action committee this summer to raise funds for federal and state candidates.

"I haven't given a lot of thought to what I do after November," he said.

Salt Lake Tribune

Save this statement for further use.

"Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney may be putting on a brave face for the cameras after losing out to Gov. Sarah Palin for the veepship, but his ever-loyal cadre of aides and consultants and conservative media types continue to work for him."
--Good for him and his cadets. Mitt Romney shouldn't be in politics. I'd suggest that he help assist in the Gulf States. He should seriously switch to benevolent
public service help in the private sector. He could offer help to one of our next Presidents - Bobby Jindal. But Mitt is relegated to the private sector. And I don't believe that he was on any of McCain's "short list" of VP's. It's just not meant to be for Mitt. There are other viable options, however in the public sector.

"Almost every critical remark made about Palin on a recent briefing call about her selection came from political consultants with ties to Romney. Those comments were planted, says one, because they knew that reporters would be on the call."
--
And who really cares? I think Romney is irrelevant in politics. That's why I keep mentioning the private sector calling.
