At the direction of Governor Haley Barbour, MississippiRelief.com has been established. Our friend, Josh Gregory of the Magnolia Report was the key guy in getting this done.
Most of the events of the Mississippi delegation at the Republican National Convention will turn into fundraisers with MississippiRelief.com as one of the primary beneficiaries.
Missippy Ping. Here is an excellent alternative for donating that bypasses the bureaucracy of places like Red Cross.
Mississippi??? Is that in New Orleans???
Sorry, I only know geography which appears on TV news programs so unless it is located in New Orleans it likely doesn’t exist.
Isn’t that such a sad truth?
Thanks
and welcome “dixiebelle” to the Ms ping list
I understand that the GOP has already raised over $1 million for Hurricane relief at the convention.
Hey Dixiebelle!! Welcome to the family. Jump on in and get your feet wet.
“Sorry, I only know geography which appears on TV news programs so unless it is located in New Orleans it likely doesnt exist.”
I don’t know, the news I’ve been watching has regularly reported from Gulfport, Pass Christian, Florida, Charles City, and Houma. Maybe you need some different channels.
Of course you’re right in that it doesn’t make any sense at all to focus on N.O. and the surrounding area. After all, we really don’t need one of the largest ports in the U.S. and by far the most important point on the most important river in the country, the Mississippi. What we really need is more attention on, say, Biloxi, with its tourists, casinos, and pretty views. MUCH, MUCH more important for the U.S. economy. Right?
Outstanding news. I think they have done a wonderful job so far. I hope it keeps up.
“2 1/2 feet of water in Hard Rock Casino Biloxi - minimal damage.”
OMG, how will people gamble???? This is terrible!!!!!

Not to worry! The ‘gaming’ floor is the second floor.
Just saw this website listed among those that the current and future First Ladies recommended for donations on the Fox News coverage of the convention.

Thank goodness. I can sleep easier now.
If you want to confine your focus to just the port at NO, that would be great. That port is no doubt quite important to the economy of the US. Just as is the port at Gulfport.
However, the focus of the news coverage from NOLA is from Bourbon Street. That kind of blunts your criticism of the Biloxi casinos.
Another difference I would like to point out. When the casinos were destroyed in 2005 Mississippi took the action necessary to rebuild those businesses in a way that safeguards them better from damage by future hurricanes. Mississippi has made magnificent progress in rebuilding from Katrina’s devastation. Most of the progress has been made WITHOUT the billions in taxpayer dollars that NOLA has received.
By contrast, many 10s of billions of taxpayer dollars more have been poured into that pit known as New Orleans (the city) with no discernable progress being made. Perhaps if some of that money had been used to raise the city to above sea-level or anything else, you might get more sympathy.
By all means, we certainly need to keep the PORT of New Orleans open and operational. Is there some argument that it has not been? If so, please advance that argument. But how many more hundreds of billions of dollars will we the taxpayers be forced to pour into that below sea level pit filled mostly with fools living off the government teat?
Perhaps it would make more sense to expand the port at Gulfport and absorb the operations previously handled at New Orleans. That moves the entire operation to a port that is better run, in a state that is better run, absent of the existing Louisiana kleptocracy. Then we can fill in that pit known as New Orleans and maybe try again.
Weather turned theater; look guys, this thing was a bust as hurricanes go, save the fundraising for when we need it.
I will be off the WXT threads for awhile, gotta get the taste out of my mouth.

You forget that those fools will simply go elsewhere, unless you propose burying them with the city.
It’s sort of funny about your claim that Mississippi gets by without all that federal help. In 2005, Mississippi got so many federal dollars that it ranked second in the nation for the amount received versus amount sent. For every $1 Miss. sent to the feds, it got $2.02 back. In other words, Miss. depends HEAVILY on federal dollars and in fact is sucking money away from other states. Louisiana wasn’t far behind, ranking fourth and getting $1.78. Miss. also ranked 51st in the nation (including D.C.) in per capita income
Personally, I’d say it sounds like the federal government is pouring money into that pit known as Mississippi. Except for a few isolated places, you couldn’t pay me to live in Mississippi.
Thanks for the warm welcome! Glad to be here. Hope all the coastal people made it through w/ minimal damage.
