What Palin Does
The Daily Standard ^ | August 29, 2008 | Noemie Emery

Posted on 08/30/2008 2:40:45 AM PDT by Puzzleman

1. Steps on the story of Obama's speech (and convention), and possibly the bounce coming from them, and wipes them off the news cycle. The Sunday news shows will be all-Palin, all of the time.

2. Sends Republicans into their convention on a huge head of steam.

3. Wipes out the image of McCain as the crotchety elder and brings back that of the fly-boy and gambler, which is much more appealing, and the genuine person.

4. Revs up the base AND excites independents, which no one else in the party, or perhaps in the world, could have accomplished...

Remember, Teddy Roosevelt was only Governor of New York for 2 years before he was on the ticket (and of course he became President almost immediately after becoming VP). Yes, he also charged up San Juan Hill. But his other experiences were a hodge podge of important and interesting jobs, but not really the stuff that would make him President at such a young age.

What he had, though, was character and a passion for fighting corruption.

And of course, he was good with a gun.

Palin is this generation’s Teddy Roosevelt!!!

I hope that Palin never kisses McCain, or accepts a kiss from him.

What is, exactly, the protocol regarding kissing among the presidential and vice-presidential candidates and their wives/husbands?

Indeed, too bad!

What in tarnashin is wrong with a warm handshake? I would never kiss my boss, and I would be appalled if my boss tried to kiss me.

Oh, well: The Hollywoodization of politics!

Right on, right on, right on!

This pick is probably the only one (and like many never saw it coming)which could have gotten to turn around and decide after all (though I was going to sit this one out) to not only go to the polls, but open my wallet--albeit a small amount for now, until I see more signs of sanity from McPain

I am psyched!

I think we have way more to hang Nobama with if he wants to go there. And I would think McCain's staff checked out the Troopergate story and felt like she was justified. But the race will be ugly, no doubt about that. I think she is a wonderful pick and I am now excited about the election.

Couldn’t agree more about the kissing business. Am I crazy or did Obama kiss Biden’s wife on the lips at the convention? I thought her goo-goo eyes at him throughout his big speech were embarrassing. Like many posters, I have torn up every solicitation for money from McCain without a second’s hesitation. Yesterday I joyfully donated. Man she is almost too good to be true!

The McCain team has Obama tagged as being arrogant, oversensitive, and weak.

It is predictable that they will attack Governor Palin for inexperience. They won't be able to stop themselves.

Every single time they do this, people will think (even if subconsciously) "Wait a minute! How much experience does THIS guy have?"

Do not think it will be to ugly since Biden started the “violence against woman’s act” which makes the democrats look supportive to women who are abused.

I’ve been thinking about the way BO planted a kiss not once but twice right on the lips of Mrs. Biden. It really startled me and seemed completely out of bounds. The more I reflected on this I thought it seemed as if he was trying to prove his manhood to those who think he may play for the other team.

You might be very surprised at the response they get if they go there, especially from those of us who have been victims of domestic violence. There is nothing more dangerous than a cop with domestic violence issues and a system around him to protect him.

Let them go there and Biden’s “violence against women act” becomes another hypocrisy of the democratic party. The PUMAs will be sure to go after it as another affront to women's rights.

PS> Isn't it interesting that the little we know about ‘troopergate’ we see it for what it is. Domestic violence.

10. Steps on Obama's claims to have been a reformer, as he reformed nothing (much less the corrupt mare's nest of Chicago arrangements), while she was a dragon-slayer up in Alaska.

Excellent. More assuredly to come on Obama AND Bill Ayers corruption in regard to aspects of, and million of dollars involved in, the Annenberg project/caper in Chicago.

You are absolutely right. Commanding in the military is like being a good aristocrat. It is the uniform that gives you power, it is the man (or woman) in that uniform that has to prove they deserve that power.

In an executive position, you have to create and hold your power.

I looked up Palin’s bio on Wikipedia before it started changing because of her new status. Remember this is Wikipedia, so use at your own risk.

Troopergate is essentially this: A member of her administration, without her knowledge, looked into her brother-in-law’s record. The Public Safety? guy was reassigned for incompetence on the job. He chose to quit and blamed his reassignment on Palin’s brother-in-law.

After the allegation was made, Palin’s team made an inquiry and suspended the person who looked into her brother-in-law’s record. They turned over all the records basically before being asked or right after they were requested. The Dems “investigating” her acknowledge that she has the full right as Governor to fire department heads at her pleasure, so there is no legal issue involved.

In the end I think this is a woman who stood up for ethics and pissed off the establishment politicians. If this is the only payback they could come up with, she’s squeaky clean.

Personally I think she is the most qualified choice simply because no other governor or senator has come close to taking so many corrupt politicians to the wall.

But McCain commanded a squadron. According to some on this board that's the same thing.

I disagreed. Commanding in the military in NOT the same as being in an executive position.

Undoubtedly McCain's executive experience would look stronger had he accepted promotion to admiral (which I read he was offered) before leaving the Navy for politics. But in light of Jimmy Carter's fatuous complaint about McCain "milking" his POW experience politically, I think we can put that issue behind us by saying that McCain has more military command experience at a more senior level than John Kerry (who told us that we should vote for him because he commanded a Swift Boat) - and thus has more executive experience than the Democrats have fielded in the last three presidential contests.

Vice president is not actually an executive position, it is actually our equivalent to "prince" as heir to the power of a fixed-term "king." So Senator/VP Gore, Senator Lieberman, Senator Kerry, Senator Edwards, Senator Obama, and Senator Biden together don't have even the level of executive experience of which Senator McCain can boast. And, as noted, mayor/Governor Palin is the only candidate in the bunch who boasts experience in elected executive office.

The brief tenure of Gov. Palin's executive experience is actually a tar baby trap to the Democrats, who will serve themselves best to drop the subject like a hot potato. And typing of "potato," the Democrats' main chance with the Palin nomination was that she would prove to look like a deer in the headlights on TV as Dan Quayle was known to do. But she's a tiger in front of a microphone, and eye candy on TV. It looks like the Democrats are stuck. Enjoy the convention!

However, the pick combined with having watched the "Messiah's" speech the night before has me back into deep consideration of going to the poling place for the Republicans yet again.

I still believe the Democans/Republicats and their death grip on our political process will be our undoing. So the mind rages once again concerning the foibles of playing their game and "voting against" yet one more time.

I will poke my head in here and say that Sarah was morally right about her actions, she will clean house.

When I first moved to Alaska in 1992 it was on the promise of work up in Fairbanks on the Riverboat Discovery, I was previously employed as the chief engineer on the Tahoe Queen at Lake Tahoe, Calif.

Much to my surprised after a harrowing pilgrimage up the Alcan that jobs are based on “locals” first in Alaska, I sadly had to sell a Snapon toolbox to get gas money to just leave town, now many years later I supervise a concrete batch plant in Wasilla and I will openly hire “cheechakos” or newcomers as its translated because of what happened to me and how I view the “good ole boy” system that has ruled Alaska for many years.

Ace nails it:

Palin’s Trooper’Gate: Beating MSM distortions to the truth  It’s been over 12 hours now since Alaskan Governor, Sarah Palin, has been named as GOP choice of Veep. Already, a desperate Obama camp of supporters are in search of talking points… other than the obviously poor choice of “inexperience”… or a scandal to take back what they perceive as the DNC ticket superiority.

Knowing the Palin-Monegan-Wooten investigation of abuse of power was their prime target, I’ve been spending time this AM researching the chain of events in hopes of beating the media to the political and biased distortions creating a new, and false “truth. I took into consideration that journalists… and ardent supporters like Markg8 on Curt’s thread… will be quick to post what they believe is damning evidence without reading more material on the issue.

So on that note, settle back and catch up with the reality of rural country politics. I’d like to share with you what appears to be the crux of the story, using both pro and con Palin bloggers and news media.

A timeline of events in the so-called “scandal”

4-11-05: Investigation of Mike Wooten by AST (Alaskan State Troopers) over two year allegation of misconduct involving family members commences.

5-1-05: Domestic complaint incident involving Mike and Molly Wooten, Sarah and Todd Palin. Transcript of Sarah Palin with troopers. Also, Trooper notes on the same interview.

SUMMARY: Molly calls Sarah (not yet Governor) in fear from husband. They leave an open phone line where both Sarah and Molly’s son hear Wooten threaten Molly and Sarah’s father (he’ll “eat an f*#king bullet). Palin doesn’t call police because she doesn’t want to hurt Wooten’s trooper career, nor make the situation worse…. Providing it didn’t get physical. Other incidents with Wooten noted.

8-18-05 Re’interview of both Sarah and Todd Palin. Trooper notes on Sarah interview. And Trooper notes on interview with Todd Palin, plus with bartender of Mug Shot Saloon.

SUMMARY: Sarah confirms an email on Aug 10th, 2005 to Col Julia Grimes, Director of AST (Alaska State Troopers) complaining of Wooten’s negative representation of the department. Wooten’s abuse of his authority and position in various instances. His racist attitudes towards native Alaskans (Todd Palin is a native Alaskan…), abuse of state resources (free gas/credit), illegal hunting activities, and Sarah’s daughter (Bristol) being a witness to Wooten’s tasering of his 11 year old stepson (verified)

SUMMARY: Todd also confirms Wooten’s disparaging remarks about Alaskan natives, his consistent abuse of authority and position, plus his hunting violations. Bartender confirms Wooten involving himself in bar fight, misusing his position as a trooper. Also bartender confirms Wooten with “girlfriend” at the bar, who was later arrested for DUI.

This is no means a complete picture of all that happened… but enough to give you a picture of an “out of control” trooper. ~~~

NOTE: Palin was not Governor of the State at this time… and this transpired BEFORE her primary campaign against GOP competitor, Andrew Halcro. Coincidently, the same man leading the pack screaming “scandal” over the “firing of Monegan”.

The investigations against Wooten started more than a year before she was elected governor, and about two months before launching her campaign”. ~~~

11-2005: Palin elected Governor of Alaska

3-1-06: Col. Julia Grimes findings on Wooten investigation results in suspension…. for only *five* days.

What we can derive from the timeline is that the investigations and complaints against Wooten as a State Trooper (not to mention with problems exhibiting a derelict father who tasers his step son, and is a physically and verbally abusive, unfaithful husband per the transcripts and testimony) had started prior to Palin’s term as Governor.

We can also determine that this is a man who most certainly does not need to be a trooper, armed with a badge and gun. And, if not in rural Alaska, Wooten is a law official who would have been run out of most departments as a seriously troubled man with violent tendencies.

Per Col. Julia Grimes in the Fairbanks Newsminer on July 28, 2008… and showing how long this “scandal” has dragged out…

The record clearly indicates a serious and concentrated pattern of unacceptable, and at times, illegal activity occurring over a lengthy period, which establishes a course of conduct totally at odds with the ethics of our profession,” Col. Julia Grimes, then head of Alaska State Troopers, wrote in March 1, 2006, letter suspending Wooten for 10 days. After the union protested it, the suspension was reduced to five days.

She warned that if he messed up again, he’d be fired.

There is much more in the story at this site--

http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/08/29/palins-troopergate-beating-msm-distortions-to-the-truth/

and are lots of links to source documents that make it worth reading it at the original site. This is an excellent well sourced piece to debunk MSM reporting.

Just BTW, FYI, & FWIW?

This thread was started to catalog opposition research on The Lady McBeth of Little Rock, and when the New, Improved Black Jesus became the Media Hive's Shiny New Toy, morphed over in to covering him as her star faded.

Until, or unless, something new on them breaks, I am suspending updates, and concentrating on the positive-- our best and brightest new star:

Sarah Palin- links, from the beginning
